Doesn't blizzard say the new maps are available online? You should try the new 2v2 maps in the pool if they are!

I think its a little early to start putting them in a tournament map pool. Maybe give them a couple of weeks.

If anything we might pull a map from the 2v2 map making thread. I can't say that these will be any better or worse than the ones blizzard has put out, but I do want to get community map makers involved and motivated since I think they're one of the keys needed to get 2v2 off the ground.

That does sound like a good idea. I guess it won't matter what the map pool is now that I think about it as long as we know the map pool ahead of time and you have the map pool in the OP so all is good.

I'll try to gather statistics about which maps from the map pool have been picked the least in the tournament and then make a poll in the topic for which map to remove and another for which map to add as the "map of the week".

We hope everyone enjoyed tournament #8. We had a lot of fun as always. The games and turn out were great this time! Too bad about those finals though D: I hope we break the 15 teams mark next time - getting a solid 30 people into a 2v2 tournament would be awesome! Speaking of, tournament #9 is up so grab a buddy and go sign up!

Just 1 announcement! The map pool will now be changing weekly. Every week there will be a poll with 3 maps currently in the map pool to decide which one gets removed, and another poll with new 3 maps to decide the replacement. Maps will be eligible to be removed based on their tournament use (maps played more often in the tournament are safer), the amount of time they've been in the map pool (to ensure a fresh pool), and other factors (statistical imbalance/degeneracy, very short average tournament-game length, no longer being in the bnet ladder, etc). The polls for this week should be up tonight!

I've pmed couple of the map makers from this thread to get their permission and to make sure they get the map hosted on NA. The options for the poll to pick the replacement map will be from there. If the map makers don't get back to me quickly enough for the poll, we'll also include the new maps blizzard added for the season 8 ladder.

Here are the three maps to pick from this week, all from community map makers who gave us permission to use it in the tournament. A lot of the map makers got back to me, so to be fair I'm just going in the order in which they got back to me. For future weeks there are even more community-made maps, as well as the new season 8 maps from blizzard, and (eventually) old maps that haven't been in the pool for a while.

For reference on the ground/air distances: The Ruins of Tarsonis [ground main-to-main = 46.3 units], The Boneyard [close position ground main-to-main = 39.8 units], Twilight Fortress [ground main-to-main = 54.0 units]

Map #1 - Kuihtuneet (by SiskosGoatee, published on NA by Oogkasje)

Total Expansions: 20
Ground Distance (main-to-main): 62.3 units
Air Distance (main-to-main): 61.1 units

This is a huge and really sexy looking map that really pushes defender's advantage by forcing the aggressive team to commit to attacking one side early on. It also caters to different expansion path styles by having 1 normal expo on one side and then an expo+a 6m1rg expo on the other side. There aren't many open spaces but there are a lot of run-by options.

Map #2 - Curious Journey (by GFire)

A really interesting take on the design of the mains, with a couple of open spaces and quite a few run-by options. GFire is working on a polished version of this map right now. If this map gets the top vote but he isn't able to get it up on NA by Friday night so everyone can test it, we'll go with the 2nd place map this week and put this map back in the vote for next week.

Total Expansions: 12
Ground Distance (main-to-main): 66.5 units
Air Distance (main-to-main): 46.7 units

A classic shared-base design with a couple of run-by paths and fairly exposed expansions. The rush distance is pretty long here and destructible rocks slow any early timing attacks. There are two large open spaces on either side of the central bridge and side run-by paths can be blocked at key chokes with buildings.

They all look good, but I agree that Kuihtuneet looks very nice :D

Also, unless it's general praise like locopuyo gave, please keep any criticisms or in-depth discussions in the TL threads I linked in each map's description. This thread isn't a place to debate the design of the maps since we've got a couple of those threads already just for 2v2.
