Puma isnt very good at TvZ.. But Zenio has been increasingly inconsistent even though he was a beast in that match up a few months ago. Hard to pick a winner but I'm giving a slight edge to PuMa.

He 2-0'd Zenio at IEM World Championships a month ago and did it pretty easily. Puma definitely is the favorite.

Stephano has forfeited matches and tournaments with 5-10 times that amount of money over being too sleepy, too hungry, etc. - don't think it's a good way to ensure his participation.
Awwwww yea, so stoked for season 3 to start! Got my HD pass and everything. What I'm worried about is since it is live, are people going to be missing alot of matches?

I imagine they are flexible with rescheduling, as long as they are made aware of any conflict before hand. The prize pool for each match is also there to make sure people show up.

Good to know, lets hope he repeats the victory. I'll be rooting for him but I dont think he's "definitely the favorite." Zenio is still a code S zerg and PuMa's worse match up is TvZ.
You should really update the homepage NASL. The schedule lists the season 2 matches. You're doing everything so well so far this season, now please don't just leave the hp to itself :/
I'm not surprise that people saying zenio going to lose his match even puma is weak in tvz but i still believe he will win because liquid players always win matches when people say they will not win their matches
The mappool, my stomach aches from laughter. You use 4-5 maps that all other tournaments finally decided to ditch because of imbalance or lack of good gameplay. Odd decision.
i read that the matches would be live. is that still the case? if it is, i hope they say it at the beginning of every broadcast to assure me lol i like watching stuff live.

They haven't clarified it, but I don't think all of the games are live. I mean, I hope not all of them are, in some cases the quality of the games would suffer - for example, you probably wouldn't get the best performance from Cloud vs HayprO today if he had to play him at 4 am. Same with Stephano vs TT1, I can't imagine Stephano would agree to play live at such times once every week.
PuMa 2-1 Zenio (a little torn on this one since Puma isn't all that great in TvZ). HayprO 2-1 Cloud (When HayprO plays well, he plays REALLY well) Nightend 2-1 BRAT_OK (i don't know to much about these guys, what i do know however is that Nightend has a great PvT) Stephano 2-0 TT1(do i even have to explain this one? ;P)

We will always let you know when games are live or replay, but, replays unlike less season, will never be older than 24 hours, and most importantly, The actual show that you are watching is _always_ live. So when we are on air, we are in the studio, as live as it can be. So the show is never pre-recorded and 2/3 weeks old which is a huge difference than how it used to be.
As you pointed out, of course we won't force europeans to play at 4 am every week, they will however have at least 1 or 2 live games a season to guarantee that we still get a decent amount of live games and as I mentioned before, if they are not live, they won't be older than 24 hours. I think that's about as good as we can get it with this format

TY for the update. Personally looking forward to your casts - you're one of my two favorite European casters
I'm so excited for the NASL. Gretorp and Frodan and Bitterdam, going to be some incredible casts this season. NASL also handles themselves so well with the players. Yay for the season starting :D
Gonna go with PuMa, Cloud, Nightend, and Stephano. These are some great opening matches, look forward to seeing them. Also the price money on each match is genius. Too often did we see players not trying or caring much about their NASL matches.
Okay so, I have to question these "live" matches... For the following I will assume the matches are played in the order listed and each bo3 takes 45 mins, begining promptly at the scheduled start time of the event.
Zenio / PuMa starts at 10AM KST - Yep, no problem with this - could indeed be live HayprO / ClouD starts at 3:45 AM CET - While okay for HayprO being back in Korea. No way is ClouD playing at this time. NightEnD / BRAT_OK starts at 11:30AM KST / 6AM Moscow - I have no idea where exactly BRAT_OK lives but it seems pretty bad for him. Has NightEnD actually arrived in Korea yet? TT1 / Stephano starts at 5:15AM CET for Stephano. No way in hell is that one being played live.
TL;DR - I'd love it for NASL to prove me wrong but I don't believe these games are being played live. At least 3 are going to be from replays.

Well Stephano tweeted that he was playing live and RotterDaM posted on the last page explaining what will be live. So I'd bet they'll all be live.

Ahah that last tweet from Stephano is a nice tease :

I would love to watch this live, but this will not be possible at this time. Just to know if I have to refrain myself from spoilers, will SD VoDs be available for free ?

As much live games are exiting i don't like it when players are forced to play under bad conditions. The quality of the games will suffer. And to be honest with a good production the difference between replays and live games cant be spotted. The only thing important is that the show is live and the games replays are not older than a day.

There are 5 division, each with 9 players, who will play 8 matches each. That will mean 36 unique matches per division, and 180 unique matches overall. If each match has a prize of $150, then that means there is $27,000 spent before we even begin to think about the NASL3 Finals.
Looks like NASL have stepped up their game something HUGE.
Great on NASL to put money on the line for each match. Not only does it make it riskier to lose, it injects so much more consistent money into player's wallets.

The camera work and visual production seems to have greatly improved, so kudos there. Still not sure why I am only getting sound out of one speaker though. I have tried a few other steams and they come in just fine.
Can't fake true chemistry and amazing casting. Bitterdam was such a solid pickup for NASL, games are barely starting and already I'm liking Season 3 a lot more than previous.

What the eff... The sound isn't balanced. There's more volume in the left channel than the right. The input volume on their mics is also too high, causing distortion. I have checked to make sure it wasn't my setup by listening to other streams and music. Come on NASL, it's S3. You should have been able to take care of these technical issues by now.
Overlay has wrong races and colors are not intuitive on a quick glance. Zenio is showing as Terran. Color for Puma especially (on the overlay) isn't easy to see, it might need to be a larger bar or a brighter color.

It does feel like there is a small amount of vision. That large EIZO icon does it I think. I don't like the scroll bar blocking the control groups, but I suppose that's not too bad. I think it would be better if all sponsors were in one place (like bottom right) in a rotating gif. If EIZO requires more face time, they can be shown every other sponsor, instead of just once in rotation. Food for thought, don't want to tell anyone how to do their job. They've got to try new/more ways to monetize.

The rotating .gif is a fantastic solution.
Also, Puma's race icon needs to be updated to reflect that he is not an orange T. =P
For those talking about the Eizo spot: it's an advertising spot that will also cover future replays. While the majority of the games will be live, there will still be some replays. In that case, it has to be covered by something. This way it keeps it consistent. Not saying I love it, but it makes sense.
I will say they do still have the (arguably) highest quality steam with the 1080+ option. Hopefully it will cause a few of the other leagues/tourneys to step it up. Audio is still :/ though and I hope they shrink the UI/logos.
We're aware of the Zenio race issue - we will fix it for next time! .
And not every single game will be live, but we will always say which games are live and which are not. Secondly, we will try to get as many of the games as we can live !

it still doesn't make sense b/c they can still move that advertizement at the other black box and use a different cover for that spot. the replay functions are still small so they can still put a smaller cover there

Just read a tweet from Evoli, these games are being played on NA. No idea why they are doing it this way. It explains everything on why that game was so sloppy.

Unusually sloppy game by both players. First the failed cloaked banshee harass, and then Zenio making mistakes left and right. Hope this one goes better.

Or at least it doesn't have to be so big. Many other streams have a small banner there, like Day9, that's for more inconspicuous.
Man, the NASL production has went down since Season 1. I remember saying to myself during the first season "Wow, this looks awesome!"
It looks like a 16-year old designed their graphics. The text just looks out of place, the overlay is obnoxious and looks odd, the scoreboard also looks out of place.
Ugh
I guess that comes with switching from pre-recorded and edited to live, though.

Is it wrong to want the NASL to improve? I don't see why complaining about things that are actually issues is condemned by most TL users. Should we be satisfied by a less-than-perfect experience, when it could easily be made better?

NASL stated it was a problem with Twitch at the moment and they are trying to resolve it. 480 is supposed to be free.
I'm happy overall - great video, great commentators. I expect they will figure out the audio issues quickly. As for Zenio as terran, just a tiny mistake, it happens.

Bitter is a little too loud. And having 2 Korean players actually playing on their server would make the games much better. I assume Gretorp and Bitterdam have Korean accounts.

Any word on an audio fix? And other than the overlay, good job on improved video production!

Your complaint is a purely a personal aesthetic choice.
So you like the bulky overlay with a bad looking bevel on the edges? You like the faded blue they're using? You like how the facebook/twitter/youtube text is squished and looks bad?
There are many problems with the designs, not just aesthetic preferences that I don't like.

When you get to play for that 8 times, it's a cool 1.2k.
Also, I don't really see anything that's stopping a really bad player from not showing up either, if they know they're not going to do well against their opponent and won't get the 150 anyway.

Just read a tweet from Evoli, these games are being played on NA. No idea why they are doing it this way. It explains everything on why that game was so sloppy.
Not everything. Lag doesn't prevent you from building supply depots.
Actually it kinda does. It doesn't matter for a full on 1 minute supply block completly forgot, but it does matter in a 10ish seconds supply block.

The majority of it completely justified.
Season 1 was plagued by terrible production throughout and the finals were a mess. This is my first time watching since then and I've switched off within 5 minutes because the production is, yet again, a huge let down (I can live with the overlay problems but the sound balance being completely fucked is a deal breaker for me).
On April 12 2012 10:32 Jnai wrote: $150 on each match sounds cheap. It's the kind of thing teenagers would get excited to win, not professionals.
For a single match, as an addition to the normal tournament prizes, it is not that bad. Remember that there are whole tournaments full of pro players where the final prize is 100 $. For sure it is motivation enough to actually try to win, unlike in some games in the former seasons.
At current resolution, the timer, icons in top left and social media links are not readable. I assume 480 should fix those however.
Is it possible to remove the scrolling tab when not in use, so that we can see control groups? I see it's not being used all that much, it would be really nice to see control groups during play.
I wonder why more of these tournaments don't try to adopt more of GOM's features, like the specifics. GOM is widely agreed to have the best production quality out of pretty much anyone. It's not the same of course, since they air pretty much year round 4-5 times a week and model is a bit different financially, but if you want production value tips, it seems like the place to go.

About the only suggestion I would have on the overlay is making the player names a little larger. Otherwise, everything looks great to me, well done! Also I love the scrolling twitter feed, super cool.

The $150 is awarded to the winner of the series, not a per win thing. It's a nice little incentive to keep players engaged on a commitment.

Events get priority OVER featured streams. They're higher on the page and bolder than featured streams. Also about you complaining about Dota 2 and LoL... you're an idiot. While I don't necessarily like LoL, it's got a giant fanbase and if anything it's helping fuel eSports.

Great choice! I love these two. They aren't overhyped, they aren't affraid to disagree with each other and make some dynamic analysis. Sometimes casters are just too lovey-dubby.
I like the top 10 idea, but the screen should focus a bit more on the key moments. A couple tweeks to the lighting and sound, but overall this is a much cleaner start than they've had before.
I think they should center the camera on bitterdam. It is slightly left of center currently. And yeah the sound balance. First night though, I'm sure they'll get things worked out but still it's puzzling that they have some issue they haven't figured out.
Bitterdam @ NASL. Promising to have a true caster combo and they seem to have stepped up their game, hopefully NASL won't be the lamest tournament around any more, promising.

They have had the sound issue forever more on the left than the right. Im worried if its the equipment at this point. But i like everything else and I want to see them in toronto so i gave them the 16 dollars for the sale price sub. Season 1 was underwhelming s2 i didnt pay for but hopefully this time ill be satisfied. Im a student and courses are done so i can catch more games this season around.
Great improvement overall so far! Really impressed. A real pleasure to watch and especially glad to know its live. I'm even surprised it's the game live too! Way to go NASL for getting that set up . . .haha
What's going on with the overlay? First game, Zenio was listed as Terran. Now Stephano is listed as Protoss. You seem to be changing the colours easily enough.
Edit: That might actually just be a blank space in the bar so it copies the background colour.

Hah they must have a problem with the overlay where it displays the race for the right player on the left also.

We're aware of this issue. We'll have it fixed for the next broadcast.

I enjoy the series and the icons are not the biggest deal imo. What I would love you guys to make a concerted effort to fix or let us know why it doesnt work is the audio. That is all. I really do not understand why the left speaker is louder than the right for a third season in a row. This has been an issue on your stream since season 1. Its the only thing that bothers me.

Thanks for letting us know all I ask is for transparency and you delivered I've noticed its just an issue on the casting voices. Audio in general isnt all on the left. When you play things like sound effects for graphics, or the music in the game its quite balanced.
Hopefully its not a stereo microphone issue, thats harder to fix than simple audio output L/R balance

I dislike when they move out that early too but I hate that protoss can't move out before max. People like to complain about deathballs, but this kind of thing shows its hard for protoss to move out.
Stephano is ridiculous, I still can't believe he can make so many roaches so fast and end up maxed like that.

He was going for a 2 base all in. So thats why he moved out when he did. If he wanted to deathball he wouldve had to take a third early, not build a bunch of units up off of 2 base.
Its not just that he went for a 2 base all in , its that he did it again after the initial rather 1 sided loss. I find the audio and visual issues to be rather minor on my end. Any thoughts on changing some of the music that the NASL's been using in breaks?
Super excited, Bitterdam is one amazing casting duo and I'm loving it so far. Glad to see them get recognition on the a main stage staple tournament, and It'll be awesome to meet them in Canada when they cast the finals ! ^^
pushing out at exactly the same time a zerg maxes is probably not the best way to make a colossus all-in work. Even just sitting in your base for another two warpgate cycles would be better because zerg can't actually make more roaches. but it probably won't work either.
I just hope everyone realizes that when you go live things aren't always as clean and smooth as something going through post production(aka awkward moments... some dead time... small issues... messed up interviews). But it is well worth the trade-off to watch live production and live games with great casters. It doesn't always have to be live but nice when it works out like this.
The casting w/ Mr. Bitter and Rotter is great as well. I think the production kicks up just by having those 2 looking sharp and buttoned up and that helps to give a feel of importance to all this.
I've never been someone who hated on NASL like some, but I also respected/understood most of the criticism even if a bit harsh at times. The vision of a "Starcraft Season" with an ending playoffs which NASL goes for seems to be coming together. It is going to be fun to have this to tune into a few days a week and watch some great games.
WHY did they have to move up the match?? I was really looking forward to watching this series, but it was listed as Match 4. Head out for an hour, swing back in... suddenly they're doing post-interview on Steph vs TT1, Match 2. >< 10 second LR recap?

This is the second time recently I have seen people display youtube clips still inside the youtube webpage. Why not just inset them over Frodan's shoulder like the various graphics that were put up?

I bet they all have segments that they will be presenting, like Frodan doing NA news, Gretorp doing best ofs, I believe they already alluded to Rotterdam doing Euro news/segments, MrBitter will have his as well.
Ye gotta say I love Season 3 so far as well. The little news segment and power rankings are also very nice. Bitterdam like usual always funny and great knowledge.
That was damn impressive by Haypro. Had Cloud as a favorite going into this match, but that was really smooth after the early aggression seemed very successful for Cloud.
Well played by Cloud. Haypro nice with the constant pressure in game 1, Cloud adjusted and handled it well after that.
Hats off to NASL. After being so happy with them early in season 1, I was annoyed as hell with them by the end of season 1, through most of 2, and stopped watching. It was a mess, and I figured they would've been better off just going all HoN and be done with it.
After enjoying IPL team league I tuned in to some of NASL's TL, and it was ok. This is better yet.
ya I didnt realize how big of a tech advantage nightend had - still, I think if brat_ok had pushed after that battle at the watchtower he could have broken nightend.
Nasl looks really proffessional now. Congratulations on a great first day and I cant wait to see what happens in canada. It might actually be a great idea to base your finals in canada from now on while mlg ipl and iem strangle themselves over the same dates in usa.

Instant access to VODs? I may go ahead and grab it then. The sales page on nasl.tv just says "Early Access to VODs" which doesn't really mean as much as "Instant."
*edit* Actually to clarify, how long is the wait for vods for both subscribers and non-subscribers? I was thinking "instant" being like on twitch.tv where it's available as soon as the stream ends, but that doesn't seem like it would be the case for something like nasl.
Was watching the EG MCSL after NASL. They seem to have a very similar lay out, but it doesn't feel nearly as crowded. Could it be the game resolution is smaller in the NASL stream? Or just all the extra stuff on the left side above the clock?

At least, that's how it's supposed to work. There's always the possibility for delays on Twitch's side, but as far as permissions go, it's all yours the second we stop broadcasting.
For non subscribers, I'm pretty sure it's 24 hours, with the exception of our Sunday matches where there's a 72 hour wait for non-subscribers.

Instant = it's available as soon as the stream goes down.
Thanks for clarifying! Very happy with the direction NASL is going. *edit* sold!

To clarify: VOD's should be available after the EU rebroadcast the next morning.
I hope you all enjoyed the matches tonight, we are going to be working daily to make sure that we refine our process and make everything better as we go along. We have a whole new set of equipment that we are working on, new staff, and a new mindset. So give us a bit of time and we'll get along to everyone's concerns in good time!
We plan on re-visiting our graphic overlays to make them cleaner and clearer, and we're going to be investigating the sound issues to fix them as soon as we can!

bitterdam = best cating duo and apollo is best caster overall.

Oh so Artosis and Tasteless aren't great freinds? Tastosis bounce off each other SO much.
I love bitterdam and always have but what your saying just doesnt seem right to me.
ive bought a ticket every single season. i have yet to regret spending my money. i recommend it to everyone. it is like having infinity vods available.

They may be friends, but Bitter and Rotterdam are both better casters than Tasteless, imo.

Thanks for a great show. I also commend you on your transparency here. The viewers appreciate that things may not be 100% spot on on day one, but it is gratifying to hear you come on and let us know you are aware of the problems on the night and are working to eliminate them for future broadcasts. It is good that you strive to iron out these initial problems rather than ignore them like some organisations would do. So hat's off for that attitude. Appreciate the efforts of everyone at NASL.

Just tuned in to the rebrodcast. Really quiet here too. was it like this in the origninal brodcast? (Can't believe that sound guy still has a job after 3 seasons ) Otherwise looking forward to the season!

Also, is it true that even if 2 people are playing on the same server, you have to play NA no matter what? If so ~~ ?!
ya, insanely quiet right now on the EU broadcast
also, wtb 240p option. I live on north vancouver island and have internet that is barely better than dialup. As crazy as it sounds I cant handle the 360p stream. sadpanda
bitterdam looking very professional in the matching suits and ties.
the sound is very quiet. it wouldn't be a bad thing if the commercials weren't 5x louder than the show. after the zenio/puma game the commercial was so loud it physcially hurt my ears and i thought it was going to blow a speaker.
NASL should get the EG Master's Cup guy to make the graphics and especially the overlays. When I watch EGMCS I am always pleasantly surprised how clean and professional it looks for an online only tournament. Meanwhile in NASL, casters wear suits but some of the graphics look like that at no point someone decides "that looks bad, let's try it again".
Edit: Additionally, what's up with the countdown in between the games? Why does it have hours and hundreths in the countdown? I am no expert in psychology, but leading zeros aren't pretty and fickle numbers ticking down convey a feeling of stress (like you have to defuse a bomb).
Laughing my ass off at Rotterdam and Bitter joking about the top 10: "What the hell was that?" "I could find ten better moments from that Zenio game we just cast." Still laughing 5 minutes after it happened
can't do anything but reiterate what has already been said, so good to see Mr. Bitter and Rotterdam casting, they are just very good at what they do, good game insight and yet entertaining and energetic. That said, I will also reiterate the volume issue is a bit obnoxious.
Hahaa I've literally been lolling since I've started watching.. Amazing!
Edit: also I like how they are not wearing headsets.. Don't get me wrong I am wearing one my self atm but I think it looks stupid on a professional cast.
God I love these casters! They are so not afraid to speak their mind no matter how harsh or impolite it might be. It's so refreshing, after listening to HD last weekend!
Bitterdam is one of the best casting duo's partly because they aren't gonna try and fluff some terrible play. They will call it out for being terrible. Some casters get so lame with literally everything being "amazing play" "never seen before". That shit gets old real fast. No fluff all the way.
NASL looking VERY professional. I'm really liking how they've improved since the start and even the last season! Watching is a pleasure. Rotterdam & MrBitter are doing really well too. : )
