Why do you need to understand English perfectly to be part of a team? lol.
He can understand and speak Konglish from what i hear pretty decently, he's just shy.

There is a big difference between understanding English (reading is also easier than hearing) and beeing comfortable doing an interview/speaking in English.

So true, haha. He talks to the Korean players like they understand everything he's saying. It's pretty funny. He's a good speaker though.

But then again, MC seems everything but shy in interviews etc

Well, the way I see it. When you're on a team it is a good idea to able to communicate easily with the rest of the team members.

He communicates with his team mates in english, but on stage using a translator makes things smoother in case of language issues. Also, it is polite let the translator do his job when he is at the stage together with HerO.
Edit: He communicates with his fans in english in his stream chat, so I know he understands english.
