well do the math , who is genius best friend? DRG. They probably practice a shitload together and have elevated eachothers play to very very high levels thus resulting in what we are seeing now. Complete rape from the both of them.

DRG and Genius are better than they've ever been, players like Sniper are improving, Finale has become a team league mainstay, sC is getting back to form. Keen's performance is a bit disappointing (he did demolish SlayerS but I expected him to do well in the GSL) and the non-DRG Zergs still have a way to go, but they seem to have a good setup there.

Also falling to code A might have been a massive wake up call for genius I think he said in an interview that he became too complacent in code S and didn't work as hard.

Parting is definitely not the best Protoss in the world. Both MC and Genius are better than him, and Oz is pretty close too. MC, ehhhhhhh. But right now, no question, after today's games, Genius is the best Protoss playing at the moment. He's now proven himself against the top PvP player, MC, top ZvP players, DRG/Nestea and top TvP players, sC and MarineKing. I really like Parting, but damn did he tilt after the first game. After the second game, he literally cried, so there was no coming back for him. I'm actually happy with any final that isn't Alive vs. Gumiho, so that's probably gonna be what happens. MC is not the top PvP player, why do people keep saying this? It's been his worst matchup for months. When he was good at PvP he would have crushed JYP 3-0 in HSC without giving him a chance. MC is still probably the best protoss. Genius needs to prove himself for a longer period of time. He's the best protoss in this GSL though. You don't know that until they play. In his prime (I'm assuming you mean 1st half of 2011) be was 2-0d by Alicia and Ace. Who knows if he played JYP. I learned never predict PvP unless it's a very low foreigner vs Korean. MC is pretty solid in all three matchups, which is why he gets far and is labelled the best Protoss. It's similar to Mvp's situation, there's a few players out there who have shown higher capabilities in some aspects when on form, but no-one has ever beaten the consistency of Mvp. I agree MC is the best protoss in the world, but his PvP has been shaky for months now. Whenever I see MC play, the matchup I fear the most is PvP, because in it, MC is actually like in the stone age in regards to builds. He only gets wins because of his superior execution, but in PvP build orders are way more important, which means that since he's behind in the metagame, not even his execution can save him in many situations Except when he out Build Ordered one of the best PvPers in the world at HSC. Shits random/luck as hell. Pft... in his prime MC would have 3-0d JYP with ease You don't realize MC was as good at PvP as NesTea was at ZvZ, then he stayed behind.

Agreed, people are grossly underestimating Alive. He's coming off wins in the aforementioned IPL4 qualifiers ( http://playhem.com/tourney/15322 ), where he beat Life, Crank, DRG, Naniwa, and Puma, and the ESV Korean Weekly S2 #2 ( http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/ESV_TV_Korean_Weekly/Season_2/Weekly_2 ), where he beat Seal, Ryung, and Taeja. He's 7-1 in his last eight GSL games (dropping that one game to MMA), and 13-3 in Korean matches since the end of January ( http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/details.php?section=sc2-korean&type=players&id=1988&part=games&league=standard ). People might pooh-pooh his online event results, but clearly his match preparation is superb from his dismantling of MMA -- his builds were excellent and his scouting of the proxy factory in game 2 was obviously planned.

I guess just motivation and having sick good practice partners is enough, I just wonder what really unlocked his play from average to awesome so quickly.

Unless he has leveled up his TvZ several times I don't see him taking a single game off DRG.

People were bitching so hard about protoss, and after all the only protoss in semifinals advanced through PvP.

lol
It's not too hard to do! You just have to win the first two games in convincing / cheesing fashion and then the last two games takes care of themselves ;>

i'm just going to revenge vote for alive and gumiho after going 0-4 in the ro8 liquibets. since there'll be a whole three people who vote gumiho and twelve who think alive will win, i might catch up a little bit!

This GSL has been really weird, Protoss wise.
Protoss UP, Protoss OP, Protoss UP.

Well, it is to ro4. I think it is anyone's title at this point. DRG is probably the favorite but not overwhelmingly so. Both Genius and aLive have beaten him recently
|
Is it only me or is aLive a good combination of both MMA and MVP? Mech near godlike, around MVPs level and then beating MMA at his own game doing some really great early harassments with great execution and preparation just what MMA has been doing to MVP lately.
I really think aLive can be a fearsome opponent following 2012 as a whole. Especially since he has learned much from last year terran kings, aka MMA and MVP.
I might be really wrong though, I've just been lurking around TL since summer and have yet to even play more than 50 starcraft 2 games in my whole life. Just my thoughts as a spectator.
