One thing that we can all agree on is that it would have been MUCH better if there was a ruleset in place for such an occasion.
We handled the situation in the best way we could given the time-frame we were working on.
We HAD to play a game. Our final had just forfeited. We hade to make a call.
Was it the right one? Personally, I think it was. I can definitely understand the other arguments, though.
I can say, however, that the absolute wrong call would have been to just call it a night.
This was a community sponsored event, and at the end of the night, we wanted to provide content for the community.
It sucks that things went the way that they did. Next time we will do better. I'm personally asking that any and all hate be directed my way, as ONOG is providing a tremendous service to the community and deserves nothing but the utmost praise from everybody.

In all other cup, forfeit is not penalized. But Mr bitter think that his event deserve better than the other and do not respect his own rules and do not not paid the 2 place to stephano... That's a fact. Stephano is not respecting fan's and Onog, it's a fact too.
Same cause : Vanity.

The easiest solution would have been to transform the tournament in a true double bracket : catz vs illu for 4th place means catz 4th, Then kas vs stephano wb final > kas grand final, stephano (forfeit) lb final. Then illu vs stephano lb final > illu grand final vs kas (bo7 starting 1 or 2-0 for kas), and stephano 3rd (forfeit)
I still do not agree with either steph being 4th arbitrarily, but i understand the need to have games for the barcraft, so... Maybe that "in the middle" solution would have been less worse and actually have some sense since it's a valid tournament format.

So thats why the torunament format was changed from single elimination to double elimination during the playoffs ?
Providing a showmatch between Kas and Illusion would have been a better idea.

The "on the spot" decision probably should have been a double bracket, as said before, making Catz 4th, Stephano 3rd, Illusion 2nd and Kas first. The right decision would have been to organize this stuff better, as either make better and clearer rules, or (and) play everything beforehand and comment replays, as some multicontinental streamed events do. It's very efficient, especially for the viewers (no downtime) and saves a lot of trouble for the admins as well.

Pathetic, sport matches get forfeited all the time if one side feels they are unable to play the game properly. Also can we just stop taking SCII so serious? If 'professional' means we have to bitch and cry about everything I'd rather not have it that way.
Proffesionalism doesn't go hand-in-hand with fun and entertainment.
about the joke: It's a JOKE, who gives a fck if some people get offended by it. It was still funny as hell, if you have to make sure you don't offend any1 with every word you say you might aswell stop casting.
To quote a popular Dutch comedian that offended Muslims with a joke, he got asked why he made the joke: 'Cause I thought it was funny'

Hello everyone,
I've been reading the comments all day, so I just thought i'd too give my opinion.
I do believe that in the end, Stephano chose to forfeit, that he did not disagree with the fact that he's placed fourth and... that's it, no? I mean, if Stephano is okay with it then I don't know what we are aguing about. There were no specific rules, ONOG improvised, and Stephano did not argue with the decision. The whole handling of the problem is another issue, but it is not Stephano vs. ONOG, it's just Stephano on one side, and ONOG on the other.
Concerning Stephano, i don't think we can judge him honestly. I mean, if the guy was indeed so freaking tired that he thought he would basically play awful maps, then why wasn't he right to forfeit? I mean, he probably gave it a thought. Perhaps during the Illusion games he was like "aw man, i'm so tired, not sure i can hold any longer". None of us are in his head, i don't see why anyone tries to say what he should or should not have done. In the end, he made a decision and assumed the consequences. That should be enough for the community.
Concerning ONOG, i have no opinion on the matter as i do believe that there has been right and wrong but it seems that this is more a drama issue between the Stephano Corps and the Stephano Haters. Perhaps the forfeiting issue should indeed be adressed in future tournaments. However, the idea behind ONOG is honestly fantastic, and has allowed NA-ignorants such as myself to discover the potential of Illusion which is formidable.
Concerning Tumba. I know that most of the web is english speaking, and that French and English-speaking communities tend to live their own lives separatly (the French going to Millenium for SC2 and the more international going towards TL and such). However, i do not think it is up to anyone to say that "come on, laugh about it" about any type of joke that offenses another culture. And honestly Tumba's comment really offended me, and i'm fairly certain i'm not the only one. I would definetly agree the French are proud, definetly too much even, but this type of comments just doesn't do any good. The joke in itself is not so offensive, it's just that whole passage (about 15 seconds) where you can definetly hear that he means it in the way he says it. At that point it's not really a joke it's more of a sarcasm. Bah. Anyway, what I mean to say is spread love for the game instead of hatred between the supporters. I'm sure a lot of french dudes will hear that and go outraged and dislike the us a bit more and etc, you know how it goes.
Mmh, a bit of a long post, sorry about that, but i needed to express at least the last part.
TLDR: nothing that important, move along.

Did Stephano say he forfeited his spot in the final or that he forfeited his game against Kas? There's an important distinction there that pretty much decides how to handle the situation.
Did he forfeit his spot in the final? If so, ONOG and Mr.Bitter made the correct decision. Did he forfeit his game against Kas? If so, they made the wrong decision.
Whether it's unprofessional to forfeit a final or not is another discussion (personal opinon: it is).

So the money is basically for qualifying / winning the qualifier + attending? I think what he meant was that you get money for wining the qualifiers but also there is a price for last place @IEM. They are two different things.Or i got that part wrong. If you win an IEM qualifier, but choose not to attend you will not receive any money. In case you did not notice, I was defending ONOG there and making a point. Maybe i should make jokes on how you surrendered the northern part of your island to the brit to see if I can touch the limits of your humour. Evoking such a dark episode of time is not funny period. There is another quote, "you can joke about everything, but not with everyone." It applies here. The joke is not actually very offensive in itself, it's just that it's made so often it's getting old to hear / read it.
