He beat MVP in his worse matchup with a base trade, when MVP didn't prep for Naniwa (pretty sure MVP expected Nestea to win). Part of what makes Koreans good is their intensive preparation before matches. When you don't prep sc2 is not mechanically difficult enough to always ensure that the better player wins. And don't even bother to mention MLG Providence where he started with a massive seeding advantage. Considering that he never changed his build against Leenock who did the same counter every game, it reasonable to assume that Naniwa was going to use the same build every game. IF he had to go through the ENTIRE open bracket like Nestea and many other Koreans did, SOMEONE would've hard countered him the same way Leenock did WAY before he made it to the finals. Also this isn't even taking into consideration fatigue. The sheer amount of games unseeded players and even lower seeded players had to go through makes endurance more important than actual skill. Yet in the end, he got rolled by a player that went through the ENTIRE open bracket, and championship bracket.

Of course world cup favors 'popular' choices over actually skill. They just do it more subtly, by rationing out seeds. Does the Asian Football federation really need 4.5 slots to qualify for the World Cup? Does "Oceania" need any slots at all? Why does Concacaf have more than 2 slots when the only relevant countries are Mexico and the USA? Why doesnt Africa, Europe and South America get more?
