Funtime is over, start behaving in here. You all know the rules and this isn't the place for some kind of comments or discussion. Keep it to the games and keep balance, the casters and meta discussions out of here.
Pretty please, with minerals on top. |

In this case I'll still be rooting for Jinro/Huk as foreigners since they're the ones who'll show that you can do well with proper practice schedule rather than having the master korean race genes, whereas with Select, it's just a show that someone who plays NA style can still make it (and become better once he switches to a better practice regime) So yes, TLO is swedish, Jinro/Huk are foreigners practicing the korean way, and Select is a foreigner.
Funny how both TLO and SeleCT got their nationalities changed, but HuK and Jinro don't.
I't should be: "So yes, TLO is swedish, Jinro/HuK is Korean, and SeleCT is a foreigner."
Now that's your logic, not mine.

Of course he's nervous; he's been there less than a week, and whatever some people say about the GSL not being worth it for foreigners, if you make the commitment to go r32 is a huge match for you. I'm not sure I like his chances against Curious since Curious is going to be the next big Zerg presence, but still, I'm happy he got a win on the board and we should be happy we've had foreigners advancing today =) Hopefully he enjoys the experience, gets some good practice in at the FXO house, and comes out of his stay an improved player ^^ If sjow beats curious I will video tape myself eating a boiled shoe. You can quote me if it happens. Sjow's TvZ is not impressive and it's much more APM intensive. If I were sjow and I really wanted to win I'd just go for 2 rax, blue flame helion drops, or banshees to try and get a ridiculous lead early on. He almost beat July in the MLG by doing some weird strats. I don't think it's all inconcievable that he could beat Curious in a bo3. Obviously he can't play straight up, that's pretty obvious.
??? He played 3times straight up vs Maka. Standard tech --> expand builds everyone is doing right now in TvT...

I love how everyone has different definitions of who is considered Korean/Foreigner. Here is my made up definition. Where they start out playing is what makes them who they are. HuK started in Canada, IdrA in America, SeleCT came to America for school but got hooked on SC here (if the documentary is correct). Puma is Korean, Hero is Korean, etc etc.
I guess we could go on all day about it and consider them korean or foreign by which server they play most of their games on, or how much they have trained in a certain area of the world or where they were originally born from. People are always going to argue semantics about who is Korean and who is a Foreigner.

Well......at least he lacks the "Korean" training to be a "legitimate" korean. Similarly guys like mOoNan is certainly no "korean" when it comes to skill (even though SeleCT is so much better than him)

Wow, dont want to sound like hater, but whats with big hype that Sjow won, it was one of worst matches lately, and Maka would easily 2-0ed him if he didnt start prematurely BMing with mass gold expo in G2. That could be given away game from textbook, aka what not to do. I mean, if Sjow fans are happy with how he played this match....dont know what to say which will not get me banned. But hf in next round, vs some half serious opponent.

Stranger things have happened indeed (TSL anyone?) but it's gonna be hard. If(!) Sjow gets his lategame style rolling he can take it, hopefully off an early lead, his army control is not nearly as bad as people think, it's just that he does exactly zero spamming so whenever he misclicks in the slightest he's fucked...just look at that refinery, no Korean would have killed that because they just spam A around the area and reclick if they hit it in between. Sjow clicks once. Curious is not DRG either though so I guess Sjow won't die too early. Could be a fun game, Sjow is the kind of guy who can pull off some super weird yet awesome timing.

for fucks sake, just ask him. Oh wait, you don't have to, someone already did. He said, he represents foreign scene, so yeah, SeleCT is foreigner. dealwithit.jpg

Because obviously he doesn't live in America and only white people can be foreigners right? He calls himself a foreigner so he is a foreigner.

Sure want to see MC at a Qualifiers. Haahahah. Congrats Sjow!.

Oh Teamliquid... a player eliminates a pseudo-legend, so the games are not recommended.

Woulda shoulda coulda. Why take this win away from SjoW? The first game he just fell apart to banshee harass, 2nd game his opponent though he was funny and SjoW told him no. 3rd game SjoW beat him straight up holding off an all-innish build and trying to play a macro game. I'm proud that he didn't fold under pressure and I don't particularly like him as a player. HF being negative about someones accomplishment.

The only way I see the argument that Select represents "Korea" having any merit is if Korean culture inherently produces better Starcraft players. In the same way that Korean culture tends to produce superior students.

Korea is an important location in the SC2 world, but it's not the only one. It's different from BW, so we shouldn't use outdated terminology (imo).
But it's a hard to break habit (especially because most of the popular commentators come from BW, keep using it and thus "teach" it to newcomers) so it keeps being used and accepted in the community despite my best efforts *sigh*.

For the love of god, stop with the "<player> is korean/foreigner"-bullshit.

The APM discussions are SO retarded.
Thorzain is rather slow and has success. Sjow is rather slow and has success.
Guess what? It does not seem to matter as much as some of you want to think. Is more effective APM better? Yes. And that’s where discussing APM should end.
Grats Sjow, grats Select .

Rather than arguing like fools over this 'foriegner' thing, you should take it for what it is: an interesting discussion on the effects of Korean training environments. There's so much to observe. Idra's rise and fall. Huk's continual rise. Thorzain immediately showing what he's capable of despite not thinking Korea was all it was talked up to be. Let us watch Fenix and Naniwa (and Drewbie and Sjow and all the others) over the coming months to see how they progress. There's so many talking points here.
It fascinates me to no end.
