Also, with the small recent samples and current state of TvP I'm unsure he truly has improved in that match up. Again, he was dropped down to Code A because of TvP, not TvT nor TvZ. He got baneling busted by July into the Up/Down, then lost to Alicia and Genius. Unsurprising given his TvP form back then. Following this drop, he won the GSL WC -- not a slump by any means. Then he roflstomped all the way to the top of Code A. Again, not a slump. Lost to Ganzi in a bo3, but Ganzi's TvT has always been very good, good enough so that he can occasionally take series off top, top players. Follow that up with GSL July where MVP tore apart sC (not a slump), lost to Zenio (who played magnificently) and Byun (a good TvTer in his own right). Then we all know what happened this past month. A "slump" is defined as an extended period of time "when [a player] performs far lower than usual." (Lifted from Liquipedia.) MVP has never actually "performed" far lower than usual. If you actually watch his games, you'll see that he didn't play badly in any of them. For the most part, he played very, very well; it's just that his opponents happened to play better on certain given days, and when you throw the bo1 and bo3 volatility into the mix, it's no surprise that sometimes very good players don't make it past ro32 in the GSL and sometimes get thrown into the Up/Down matches. Saying that MVP was in a slump because his results didn't match up to what we expected of him (even when he still played very, very well) is kind of like saying MKP entered a slump every time he didn't make it past ro32 in GSL Code S (March, May, July). But no, MKP actually wasn't slumping until GSL July, as his play itself was still up to his usual standard outside of the group stages. He was just the victim of a volatile format, like all good players are once in a while. (Of course, now MKP's slumping or coming out of a slump, depending on how you want to look at it.) Basically, bad results and "slumping" are often correlated, but correlation does not necessarily equal causation. While slumping invariably leads to bad results, it's not the only thing that creates bad results, after all. Will totally concede on the TvP, though. You're right, the sample size is too small. I do think his play looks more solid than it did previously, but it's hard to tell when all you're doing is watching him play a bo1 against MC and a series against a jetlagged Huk.

imho mvp for back to back titles, he looked so far ahead of everyone else... and his group should be no problem at all. his tvt is stellar and he only has to practice one matchup...

We knew already who was going to be a part of Code S, this is the thread for the group selection. If anything, the fact that there's only 1 all-terran group could lead to a more balanced round of 16. Actually I don't know about that. At least an all-terran group means that only 50% of the terrans in this group advance :D
