Yeah MLG is the best, the NASL finals were epic as well as far as atmosphere is concerned.
You need to consider that this is only a medium-scale tournament set in the environment of a HUGE convention. You can't compare that to an event such as MLG. Also, the way the microphones are set up are different from event to event and so, when you aren't actually there, you really can't even tell how many people are cheering at what volume. At gamescom, for example, there is incredibly loud music and sound fx coming from all close-by stands so I imagine the sound engineers for the IEM stage there have turned the actual room sounds down very much.
There are not that many chairs there to begin with and the even is covering just 1/5th of one of 8 exhibition halls there.
There are also some obscenely loud booths nearby. I couldn't hear the casters on Wednesday over the music playing on the other side of the separation wall.

Guild Wars 2. I don't know how I feel about it. Seems like a cross between Wow... and almost FPS in the terms of speed from many characters. (Probably not the best choice for that comparison).
It seems to have alot more potential then wow arena as a tournament game, just because it's not all about just killing the other team. Looks interesting atleast to me.

Yeah, I agree. This is more like an exhibition for game enthusiasts. MLG is a pro gamer circuit. It's a different animal.

i rather think most of the viewers there are no real starcraft fans. many seem to be lol fans or even allrounders, but few are hardcore fans which you might rather see at blizzcon or MLG.
(doesn't mean they can't cheer, but ... well i don't know)
Damn. That wasn't Nerchio's A game and you could see that he was really stressed. I hope his next lans will go much better. On the other hand I underestimated PuMa, these were gosu games. Too bad Nerchio didn't decide to go bane/muta and sticked to ling/roach/infestor.

Wow-Arena has come down to a formula basically. There isn't enough variations to allow creativity and so on. It's why I never arena'd in Wow... You basically know who is going to win from the compositions.

You called him a low level Korean. Good thing it wasn't a medium level Korean, right?

yeh, or you get stuff like the blizzcon finals where a game is like a full on stalemate for 30 minutes or so, most boring thing ever :p

when his losing the reason its not his best ?
nerchio should own the world pay some tribute to his opponent man

IEM has a bigger crowd, better stage and in general a better production-quality. but yes the atmosphere is bad BUT i can tell ya that when u are there the atmosphere is great.ive been there last year and now im shocked that the microphones cant really catch the sound of the crowd
It's not that the atmosphere is bad.
The atmosphere is incredible. I've never seen more nerds in one place in my life.
Fans here aren't as hyped for Starcraft (when compared to something like an MLG, or the Blizz invitation in Poland, for example) because its not a "pure Starcraft" audience.
Lots of people here for LoL, tons (literally thousands) here to play Diablo 3, and more than anything else, there's just a bajillion people here because they love playing video games.
The Starcraft purists are a bit in the minority.
It's not because of IEM. It's because of Gamescom - the biggest video game trade show in the world. And its not a bad thing... Its great exposure for the game. I can't tell you guys how many people have come up to me and asked about Starcraft only to have me send them to TL.
