They'll be able to invite Boxer though, and maybe DRG, Koreans who have foreign fans but are possible for top foreigners to beat.
I'm assuming that Puma and Rain will either be invited or at least try to qualify, as their foreign team sponsors will likely require them to do it.
Maybe FXO will send a few players like Choya too. About Rain, I just want to mention that he lives now in NYC and a lot of companies have daily bus routes to Atlantic city cheap all over NYC because it's so popular to go there, so he can easily go for the live qualifier if he wants. Considering the fact that he can just go to the live qualifier and get one of the 16 live spots, that should be easy for Rain since I suspect not too many tough players will actually go to the live qualifiers or if there are, they'll be plenty of spots to go around. Rain might want to go through the qualifiers just for the free hotel though. haha.
Hell, he could do both. Attempt to qualify online first, and then show up in person if he gets cheesed out or something.

finally they have koreans, maybe a few through the invites? or players residing in america, like Rain or Puma.

So even though you consider live and online events to be separate types of events, this is still being called IPL3? Kinda confusing but ok. Definitely looking forward to this one. The combination of online qualifiers, live qualifiers and invites definitely interests me. I don't think I've ever seen such a setup before.

This is going to be legend.... wait for it.... DARY!
If you guys can pull this event off without any major hickups, with the same quality and production value as seen in your previous online events, it's gonna be amazing. Good structure, good prize distribution, good qualifying systen. Nice venue.
I don't agree with alle the people bickering about qualification fees and not treating the Koreans the way they should (well, how?) be treated. It's not the responsibility of the western tournament organizers to ensure that all the Koreans can participate as easily as possible. The language barrier is the biggest problem, but as the whole world speaks english nowadays (even the Koreans: "English is taught as a required subject from the third year of elementary school up to high school" - Wikipedia), we can hope for a little effort from the Korean scene if they want to participate abroad. If the IPL does a detailed and informative press release (english, korean, spanish , ...) and gets this info to the established news portals, their duty is done. This $20 fee, well that's how it works, imagine playing poker, chess or any other game that is comparable to e-sports, where entry fees are not the case. If you don't have any chance of qualifying, there is no one forcing you to play and pay it. And if you qualify, your reward is much bigger than these meagre 20 bucks. Sometimes I just don't get it. IPL3 does nearly everything right, and not even all the information about the event is known yet. And at least half the people are complaining.
The only thing that sucks, is the map pool. The same maps all over again. There are fantastic maps produced on a daily basis (MOTM!!!!!!), but all the tournaments just flat out ignore them. Why not take some risks? And reward the viewers with some new maps? You could even test them on IPL TV, in your smaller online events, showmachtes, put ONE map in Team Arena, I don't see any reason to not test all these maps...
tldr; Gonna be awesome, everything done right EXCEPT THE MAP POOL, which is old, boring and needs refreshement, preferably from the community made maps that are available since ages but nobody bothers to check out.

I have to say the production value IGN offers is amazing - this is how it's done, that's what I call professional.
I also think the "buy-in" is absolutely reasonable. I mean, as already stated, there are way, WAY larger buy-ins in other sports. It makes sure only people who are serious about this will participate. And everyone who calls himself "pro-gamer" should be able to come with 20 bucks...seriously now. This is not even half of what many people spend on drinks...on one weekend....one night. In a decent club a single-fricking-concktail costs 9€ in austria for crying out loud.
Concerning the maps: yes it's true, IGN could've been more corageous with maps. There would have been no harm done by having 1-2 of the newer maps, say, daybreak which already provides awsome games. Nevertheless there's nothing particularly wrong with them either, they are what currently can be seen as the standard mappool for top tournament.

Im actually tempted to bday gift myself a flight to atlanta >.>

I'm thinking of coming over with a friend from Ireland for this (well, and a one week stay in Atlantic City). I hope we can get some ticket information asap, so I can see how much of a hole flights, accomodation, and event is going to burn into my pocket!

Unfortunately yes. You might be able to sneak in somehow but that is not something I would risk in another country. You could always try to sign up as a player depending on the ticket prices.

Thanks Bigtony. I definitely won't cross an ocean to be denied at the entrance because i'm "underaged" I guess i will have to wait a year to visit USA & enjoy a pure esport time :'(
(Don't be sad Idra, your biggest fan will support you at a live event sooner or later ^^)

For the open qualifier, you can sign up now. http://playhem.com/tourney/10401
For the 256 man open tournament, we'll have a post up soon!

This thread really needs to be seen, but I'll be honest, almost all the thread titles for IPL topics are quite boring and dont stand out. I think if you just started the title with "$100,000" you'd get a lot more views. I really hope you can get more people to see this; looks like such a great event!

I think he means because he lives in Maryland, and that's one of the states that's listed as not being allowed to participate in the qualifiers. Not sure why that's the case though. Maybe it's considered some sort of online gambling because of the entry fee? Seems strange.

I did want to say that the IGN approach to IPL will probably work really well for this type of event. I hope IGN ends up being the other major NA LAN, with MLG.

This is going to be kinda ridiculously awesome.
And I'm just saying... if the sportsbook was putting some odds on matches, and showing some on their big screens, I think I would be in heaven. I know we aren't there yet sc2, but a man can dream.

I see, I'll clarify and get back to everyone.
