Online Qualifiers

- Open to any player in any region
- Must have a North American account
- Must be 18 years or older to compete
- 4 Qualifiers (Qualifier 1 – August 20th and 21st, Qualifier 2 – September 3rd and 4th, Qualifier 3 – September 10th and 11th, Qualifier 4 – September 17th and 18th)
- $20 to enter
- Hosted by Playhem.com
- Top 2 from each qualifier gets into the Championship Bracket, free travel, hotel room, and VIP treatment at the event

Group Play

While the qualifiers are being played out, the 16 players from the invites and Playhem qualifiers will be playing for seeding in the Championship Bracket on the main stage.

There will be 4 Groups, consisting of 2 invitees and 2 online qualifiers. We will be randomizing who is in what group.

Live Qualifiers

- 256 Players, open to any rank or region
- Double Elimination, Best of 3
- Top 16 get into the Championship Bracket

Players must bring their own mouse, keyboard, headset, and mouse pad. Players may not use their own laptops or desktops to play in the tournament.
Headsets must use a standard 3.5mm stereo headset jack with a separate 3.5mm microphone jack. Players may not use USB headsets. (This has to do with the amount of equipment that will be plugged in to each computer throughout the event. It limits the chance of shorting a CPU and reduces time spent rebooting computers to get new equipment to be recognized.)
Mice and keyboards must use standard USB. Players cannot use PS2 interface mice and keyboards.

32 Person Championship Bracket

- Single Elimination, starts as Best of 3
- 8 Invited Players
- 8 Players from the online qualifiers

FAQ / Q&A:

Q: Can I spectate the event if I’m younger than 21?
A: Unfortunately, due to state law, if you’re under 21, you are not allowed in the venue. We hope to make this event a success and continue our relationship with them to bring it to other venues around the country and world, where they do allow under 21 year olds into their venue.

Q: Can I play in the event if I’m younger then 21?
A: Yes! We have worked out a deal with Caesar’s and the New Jersey Gaming Commission to allow us to submit under 21 year old players to them for approval. You will need to be 18 years or older to compete, and will be allowed to spectate if eliminated.

Q: What other games will you have at the venue?
A: To be revealed at a later date!

Q: What about the top 16 from IPL 2?
A: The top 16 from IPL 2 are pre-qualified for our next online event, not IPL 3! We hope to have a good mixture of both online and offline events, but we do consider them to be separate types of events.

Q: Will there be Koreans?
A: Yes

Q: What states are prohibited from entering the qualifiers?
A: Vermont

Q: Will there be any betting on any matches in IPL 3?
A: Nope!

NOTE: Our official website for IPL 3 is now live, so you can begin booking your hotels and purchasing spectator passes, as well as learning more about the event in general: http://www.ign.com/ipl/starcraft2/tournaments/ipl3/tickets

NOTE: If you are planning to COMPETE at the live qualifier at the event, you DO NOT need to purchase a spectator pass. Player passes are available now! http://bit.ly/qfpfjO for all spectator and player pass purchases.

Wait, invited players aren't going to be the top 8 from IPL 2? Lame. (edits follow) Koreans can come over by winning all the online qualifier spots.

Other than that, looks good.

Damn under 21 can't spectate, why do they have to make it in a Gaming place. Well from what I've seen in MLG, there wasn't much under 21 ppl anyway

Hope it were a 32 men tourneys rather than 16 only.

Read the end of the writing and it explains why they won't be recieving those invites. In addition it is much more difficult for the koreans to get there than the other NA/EU players.

Oh and btw I am digging the Prize distribution. 30,000 is a nice sum of money but not too much to overpay the top performer / underpay the bottom half of successful players.

I think the prize breakdown is excellant, going down to 32nd place is a nice touch that alot of tournaments overlook. Good luck with the event, i shall be tuning in!

I'm a little confused about this part, I'd like to play in the open bracket, but I'm under 21. It says that people under 21 are allowed to play, but not allowed in the venue. Does that mean that I can only play in the online qualifiers?

Four sets of casters. Does this mean 4 streams? Will streams be paid subscriptions?

1500 seats only at the venue from what the link shows. Should be interesting how that works out :D.

It means we will need information from people who buy tickets who are under 21 to submit to the gaming commission so you can play!

I know it's such a minor thing, but IPL always has the best prize breakdown format of any tournament.

I think they are saying you can't spectate at the venue if you're under 21 (spectator pass), but they worked out a deal to let those that are actually playing in the tourney into the venue. Makes sense seeing as though there probably will be quite a few competitors that are under 21.

edit: beat to the punch lol

We will have more information on streams as the event approaches, but we will have more then 1 stream for sure.

Also we will have additional seating and space in our qualifiers area, the main stage is just the theater itself.
