FAQ / Q&A:
Q: Can I spectate the event if I’m younger than 21? A: Unfortunately, due to state law, if you’re under 21, you are not allowed in the venue. We hope to make this event a success and continue our relationship with them to bring it to other venues around the country and world, where they do allow under 21 year olds into their venue.
Q: Can I play in the event if I’m younger then 21? A: Yes! We have worked out a deal with Caesar’s and the New Jersey Gaming Commission to allow us to submit under 21 year old players to them for approval. You will need to be 18 years or older to compete, and will be allowed to spectate if eliminated.
Q: What other games will you have at the venue? A: To be revealed at a later date!
Q: What about the top 16 from IPL 2? A: The top 16 from IPL 2 are pre-qualified for our next online event, not IPL 3! We hope to have a good mixture of both online and offline events, but we do consider them to be separate types of events.
Q: Will there be Koreans? A: Yes
Q: What states are prohibited from entering the qualifiers? A: Vermont
Q: Will there be any betting on any matches in IPL 3? A: Nope!
NOTE: If you are planning to COMPETE at the live qualifier at the event, you DO NOT need to purchase a spectator pass. Player passes are available now! http://bit.ly/qfpfjO for all spectator and player pass purchases.

Other than that, looks good.
Read the end of the writing and it explains why they won't be recieving those invites. In addition it is much more difficult for the koreans to get there than the other NA/EU players.
Oh and btw I am digging the Prize distribution. 30,000 is a nice sum of money but not too much to overpay the top performer / underpay the bottom half of successful players.
I think the prize breakdown is excellant, going down to 32nd place is a nice touch that alot of tournaments overlook. Good luck with the event, i shall be tuning in!

I'm a little confused about this part, I'd like to play in the open bracket, but I'm under 21. It says that people under 21 are allowed to play, but not allowed in the venue. Does that mean that I can only play in the online qualifiers?

It means we will need information from people who buy tickets who are under 21 to submit to the gaming commission so you can play!

I think they are saying you can't spectate at the venue if you're under 21 (spectator pass), but they worked out a deal to let those that are actually playing in the tourney into the venue. Makes sense seeing as though there probably will be quite a few competitors that are under 21.
wow, i think i might have to drop my MLG providence trip for this if I have to pick and choose. SC2 + other games + gambling is going to be a killer combo for me... as well as for my wallet >_<. $100 on WhiteRa >_>
its two months away and youve already got the schedules for every day sorted! love it :D
the prize distribution in this seems to be really forgiving, just for making it into the to 32 you get $1000. its so worthwhile to enter, if only i was any good at the game lol
i love the idea of free travel and such for the qualifiers. it gives any non-sponsored player who can win a qualifier a chance to go with out much sacrifice( as much is already done in the time it takes to be such a great player) IGN, great job.
The prize breakdown is amazing. It's evenly distributed enough for everyone who qualifies to not be disappointed, yet heavy enough on first place winnings to really make the grand final intense.
Evenly distributed prize pools are important, but grand finals that have a such a small difference in prize money between first and second place seem to take some of the competitive edge out of the games. Or maybe it just seems that way as a spectator because less is riding on the result.
Over 60k viewers for the finals, I'm calling it now.
I don't know what happened in between the IPL1 announcement and this moment right now, but I want this tournament to succeed. I want this to be a huge success so everyone can see how this shit is done properly.
IPL, can we get a little more information on the site and tickets? What system will you use to distribute?
Obviously they will be in high demand and many of us (who would have to travel to the event) need to book ahead of time and want to make sure we don't get there and have no seats.

agreed 100%, IPL has really impressed me with the way they have run season 1 and season 2 so far. And with just the basic information about IPL 3, i can tell that they will raise the bar for any live events in the future. All the other tournaments, GSL included, are going to be shown up I feel.
On August 17 2011 07:48 Diglett wrote: can you elaborate on the koreans? will there be a qualifier? invite?
I think that some will be invited, but also any koreans with NA accounts can try and qualify. And I'm sure that if koreans wanted to fly out to the open bracket they could too. Basically just the same as any other NA or EU players I think

$30,000 vs $12,000 isn't a big difference to you? That's gigantic... I'd argue almost too much of a difference, but I do like how they are spreading the money to the top 32.
I'd prefer this breakdown (only difference is 1st-3rd) since it's easier to understand, you still have $10,000 riding on the finals and it makes the 3rd/4th place match more interesting: 1st: $25,000 2nd: $15,000 3rd: $10,000 4th: $6,000 5th – 8th: $3,000 9th – 16th: $2,000 17th – 32nd: $1,000
I would also recommend inviting the top 8 from the previous IPL in order to make it feel like a "league" rather than completely separate events. This still allows 75% of the spots to be open to anyone.
Also, props for not having boring placement matches outside the top 4!

You have to have somewhat of a first place price though.. I mean, 16 of the players will walk away with free ticket, free hotel and $1k, that's amazing really.

I am pleased to announce that we are taking seating seriously for this event. There are different levels of spectator passes. The premium passes (limited amount) will have have access to reserved seating areas in the main theatre (and we aren't overselling tickets aka people who have reserved don't end up getting "shafted" for seating during clutch match ups). So if you don't want to worry about losing a seat, you should opt for a spectator pass with reserved seating access.
There will always be open seating in the main event hall.
And to preempt questions, the break down is roughly 800 reserved seats and the rest are open.

Do the Koreans even know about the IPL3 qualifiers?
IPL3 was just announced today and qualifiers are tomorrow. I'm not sure if Koreans with poor English will even know about IPL3 in time to sign up for qualifiers.

IGN hearing the community outcry that GSL and NASL prize pools are too top heavy!
I hope due to the prize distribution and paid flight we'll get lots of top players participating. I will be watching who qualifies very closely. Would suck that IGN puts out this very generous and gigantic event only for the big players to give the cold shoulder.
Just saying. Participation for IPL2 was... less than satisfactory.

That's not fair because Koreans couldn't possibly have been in top 8. At most, the top 5 and 3 korean invites.
EDIT: To further this, if you invite 3 koreans they almost have to be Nestea, MC, and MVP. They are the top of each race and arguably the 3 top players period. (InbeforeBomber).
Though you almost have to see them doing 4 koreans and 4 foreigners because for an event of this size you absolutely want the biggest celebrity in esports there... Boxer.
Oh wow... You guys are like 1-uping every tournament out there. I hope that reserved seating is actually enforced unlike at MLG. We need beefy ushers to guard my seat from Xeris.

I don't think that is nearly enough seating. With such limited seating they could literally charge like $100 a spectator. = /
why does everyone think koreans deserve special treatment? i feel like they should have to deal with everyone just like everyone else they dont get to have everyone do everything for them and they have to just live with it
Entry fee for the online qualifiers is $20 to help offset our costs, if you get top 2 in any of our qualifiers you get:
Free Flight Free Hotel Placement into the Championship Bracket (Minimum $1000 prize money)
Entry fee for the live qualifiers is $50, top 16 advance from the live qualifiers to the Championship Bracket.
ok but an entry fee for a qualifier + sc community = not kosher
Yeah seriously, putting an entry fee is basically like putting a poll tax to discriminate against Koreans.
Yup, we need to treat Koreans as rockstars at every possibility.
Pretty sure he's just poking fun at the whole NASL/Korean teams fiasco where they cited the entry fee being one of the reasons not to participate. That whole ordeal is quite a mess and no one really knows what's going on, but I wouldn't doubt that some Koreans will participate anyway.
Is this being heavily marketed to the Korean teams to offset their seeming dislike of foreign events? Do they all know how huge it is in terms of both venue and prize pool?
Seems like so many things get lost in translation, or just not translated to the Koreans (and vice versa) that this is really important. Or we as spectators just don't see this process. Hard to say.

Thats what I am thinking too. Same treatment for everyone, no need to specially cater for one group.
If Koreans are interested they will come, if not - their loss.

Look at it this way! You could register and compete in four separate qualifiers for $80 and stand to win a free flight (from Europe or Korea or wherever) and free hotel for the event, OR you could spend $50 for the live qualifier and spend your own money traveling. To me that seems like a pretty good deal, especially if you qualify on just one try. No matter what, qualifying will be difficult!

Tournament clashes with the GSTL final, so quite sure we can rule them out.
The problem Koreans had with NASL was the $250 (or was it $500?) security deposit they'd have to leave with NASL for 5 months. Teams couldn't afford to do that for multiple players as many Korean teams still have no sponsors. The unsponsored teams just couldn't afford it, supposedly many teams are barely able to afford food.
This may well be my most anticipated LAN of the year given how amazingly the other IPL stuff has been done. Really excited to see them sticking with painuser, hd and cats pj's as there lead casters too because honestly theyve been great. They (and all of ipl) has really exceded my expectations
The conflict with GSL Code S Ro16 and GSTL means Nestea and MVP probably won't be coming. Depending on how MC does, he might not be able to come either. Nada always seems to get to Ro16 or deeper too so he can't come.
They'll be able to invite Boxer though, and maybe DRG, Koreans who have foreign fans but are possible for top foreigners to beat.
I'm assuming that Puma and Rain will either be invited or at least try to qualify, as their foreign team sponsors will likely require them to do it.

About Rain, I just want to mention that he lives now in NYC and a lot of companies have daily bus routes to Atlantic city cheap all over NYC because it's so popular to go there, so he can easily go for the live qualifier if he wants. Considering the fact that he can just go to the live qualifier and get one of the 16 live spots, that should be easy for Rain since I suspect not too many tough players will actually go to the live qualifiers or if there are, they'll be plenty of spots to go around.
Rain might want to go through the qualifiers just for the free hotel though. haha.

They'll be able to invite Boxer though, and maybe DRG, Koreans who have foreign fans but are possible for top foreigners to beat.
I'm assuming that Puma and Rain will either be invited or at least try to qualify, as their foreign team sponsors will likely require them to do it.

IGN can do invites however they want, but I would like to think the invites would be the cream of the crop. Winners of past events or such. Rain, while being very good, I wouldn't put at the cream of the crop just yet.
Optimal invites in my mind would be: (Assuming all could make it)

Our events site will be up soon(tm) with all information you could need including travel, packing, event schedule, and tickets -- and a bunch of other stuff.
Wow, IGN and IPL have really been improving their tournament ! I really hope this tournament is well hyped,100k prize pool equally distributed, multiple online qualifiers, invites, a live open bracket qualifier, free hotel/travel arrangements... all into a sizable championship play at a good location. I really hope this turns out well!
It has a 6 day duration so we might get the IPL info before it expires.
Our hotel package rate is cheaper than that groupon offer, plus the groupon offer is only available for 1 night, our event is 4 days which equates to 4 to 5 nights. I highly suggest waiting for us to release our package purchase options to the public.

Hell, he could do both. Attempt to qualify online first, and then show up in person if he gets cheesed out or something.
So even though you consider live and online events to be separate types of events, this is still being called IPL3? Kinda confusing but ok. Definitely looking forward to this one. The combination of online qualifiers, live qualifiers and invites definitely interests me. I don't think I've ever seen such a setup before.
This is going to be legend.... wait for it.... DARY!
If you guys can pull this event off without any major hickups, with the same quality and production value as seen in your previous online events, it's gonna be amazing. Good structure, good prize distribution, good qualifying systen. Nice venue.
I don't agree with alle the people bickering about qualification fees and not treating the Koreans the way they should (well, how?) be treated. It's not the responsibility of the western tournament organizers to ensure that all the Koreans can participate as easily as possible. The language barrier is the biggest problem, but as the whole world speaks english nowadays (even the Koreans: "English is taught as a required subject from the third year of elementary school up to high school" - Wikipedia), we can hope for a little effort from the Korean scene if they want to participate abroad. If the IPL does a detailed and informative press release (english, korean, spanish , ...) and gets this info to the established news portals, their duty is done. This $20 fee, well that's how it works, imagine playing poker, chess or any other game that is comparable to e-sports, where entry fees are not the case. If you don't have any chance of qualifying, there is no one forcing you to play and pay it. And if you qualify, your reward is much bigger than these meagre 20 bucks. Sometimes I just don't get it. IPL3 does nearly everything right, and not even all the information about the event is known yet. And at least half the people are complaining.
The only thing that sucks, is the map pool. The same maps all over again. There are fantastic maps produced on a daily basis (MOTM!!!!!!), but all the tournaments just flat out ignore them. Why not take some risks? And reward the viewers with some new maps? You could even test them on IPL TV, in your smaller online events, showmachtes, put ONE map in Team Arena, I don't see any reason to not test all these maps...
tldr; Gonna be awesome, everything done right EXCEPT THE MAP POOL, which is old, boring and needs refreshement, preferably from the community made maps that are available since ages but nobody bothers to check out.
I have to say the production value IGN offers is amazing - this is how it's done, that's what I call professional.
I also think the "buy-in" is absolutely reasonable. I mean, as already stated, there are way, WAY larger buy-ins in other sports. It makes sure only people who are serious about this will participate. And everyone who calls himself "pro-gamer" should be able to come with 20 bucks...seriously now. This is not even half of what many people spend on drinks...on one weekend....one night. In a decent club a single-fricking-concktail costs 9€ in austria for crying out loud.
Concerning the maps: yes it's true, IGN could've been more corageous with maps. There would have been no harm done by having 1-2 of the newer maps, say, daybreak which already provides awsome games. Nevertheless there's nothing particularly wrong with them either, they are what currently can be seen as the standard mappool for top tournament.
I'm thinking of coming over with a friend from Ireland for this (well, and a one week stay in Atlantic City). I hope we can get some ticket information asap, so I can see how much of a hole flights, accomodation, and event is going to burn into my pocket!

Unfortunately yes. You might be able to sneak in somehow but that is not something I would risk in another country. You could always try to sign up as a player depending on the ticket prices.
Thanks Bigtony. I definitely won't cross an ocean to be denied at the entrance because i'm "underaged" I guess i will have to wait a year to visit USA & enjoy a pure esport time :'(
(Don't be sad Idra, your biggest fan will support you at a live event sooner or later ^^)
This thread really needs to be seen, but I'll be honest, almost all the thread titles for IPL topics are quite boring and dont stand out. I think if you just started the title with "$100,000" you'd get a lot more views. I really hope you can get more people to see this; looks like such a great event!
For the 256 man open tournament, we'll have a post up soon!
I think he means because he lives in Maryland, and that's one of the states that's listed as not being allowed to participate in the qualifiers. Not sure why that's the case though. Maybe it's considered some sort of online gambling because of the entry fee? Seems strange.
I did want to say that the IGN approach to IPL will probably work really well for this type of event. I hope IGN ends up being the other major NA LAN, with MLG.
And I'm just saying... if the sportsbook was putting some odds on matches, and showing some on their big screens, I think I would be in heaven. I know we aren't there yet sc2, but a man can dream.

We have just finished another examination of legal interpretation of state laws and we will be opening the qualifiers up to all states except Vermont. As soon as Playhem has implemented this rule we will let you know so you can sign up!

Sorry for being OT, but I just want to mention that typically "Big Government" is the Federal government. In this case its state laws getting in the way. Anti-government conservatives love to bemoan regulation, but they never mention how having 50 states with different regulations is a much larger headache.
And now, to be on topic, let me express how completely mindbogglingly awesome this event is! Both IPL events to this point have been the slickest, most well produced online tournaments to date (with the TSL getting special mention for doing it live), and I expect this will be fully epic. Can't wait to see what you all bring to the table next!
Oh shizzzzzzzzzzzznit. IdrA and SeleCT. God. If SeleCT, Naniwa, HuK, PuMa, IdrA all live in the same korean training house.. make it happen esports, make it happen.
I'm a bit confused. So when I logged on and registered for this tournament on playhem. I somehow managed to log onto playhem through a mixed IGN/Playhem type of interface page, with what i think is my IGN username?
Anyway. When i logged on through that page it worked and i could register for the qualifier and login with my email and the password i had chosen. However... When I click these pure Playhem links. The login does not work anymore. And yes, I am 100% sure I am using the correct email/pw.
Do you guys keep seperate databases where both allow access to playhem or something?
*Edit: Oh Yeah, when i logged onto Playhem the first time (didn't create a new account, existing (IGN?) worked), I was sent an email that read "Welcome to MY IGN!". And I have no problems whatsoever logging into MY IGN. But the thing is, I wasn't even on IGN, I was on Playhem. What the hell is this and how do I log onto the account i signed up with on playhem again when it says my password is wrong (which it is not)?
The purely playhem links don't work. Guess I'll have to remember that.
*Edit3: Another problem. Playhem General Chat gets blocked by noscript anti-xss. I cant view tournaments without disabling noscript everytime. Can you get a way to disable general chat through settings somehow or help with a http://ign.playhem.com/[#]\/[a-z]\[0-9] type xss-exception i can use to make your site work with noscript. I'm not good at making those and don't know the syntax of your urls.
Will there be options to purchase single-day spectator passes for less money than the unlimited pass, or perhaps just passes for days 3 and 4? Or is this still TBA?

Finally a tournament that's nearby and I'm free! Oh wait, I'm just 20 :/ I don't have a lot of experience with casinos but I do remember going to a magic show when I was like 8 in a casino. Isn't the 21 restriction just on the casino floor?

Hi there Pandemic109,
It is because of our partnership with Caesar's that we are able to offer reserved seating. You have to have a room reservation to get a reserved seat at the Circus Maximus theatre.
Can you comment on whether Caesars / Bally's will be taking bets on matches? There is a rumor that there will be open betting on games and just wondering if that's true.

EDIT: There will be no betting on matches and IGN made that pretty clear in a middle post which was sneaky and small so I didn't read it. FAIL.

Hey, guys, just logged here to say that IPL is damn awesome, it's the best tournament to watch the stream, and since is so constant, IPL to me is my main "TV" time.
Keep up the good work and reflect about making even more tournaments, the sheer volume of games with commentators like cats pajamas and painuser will make IPL a standard stream amongst us SC2 players

Its a casino... of course theres booze. And MLG lets you bring whatever too so theres booze a lot of places.
I got told.
Well my question is then... is there a limit to people per room, don't say 2. Also how does the reserved seating in the Gold package work? Diamond / Plat offer front section, how does gold work as far as seats. Is it like whoever buys first gets the better seats?
On August 19 2011 11:12 CurLy[] wrote: Its a casino... of course theres booze. And MLG lets you bring whatever too so theres booze a lot of places.
Also this ticket pricing is kinda bullshit. Four friends want to go to see IPL. They want to share a room, they want good seats. They can't purchase the higher packages because they would all have to get individual rooms which would cost a fuckton of money.
You guys made a retarded deal, good luck getting people to pay for anything over bronze.
umm no, read again carefully:
Register at eventbrite.com and select which package types you wish to purchase. (Diamond, Platinum, Gold) Eventbrite allows for multiple tickets to be purchased under one transaction, so if you are part of a hotel group, it is recommended that you register with the same group as your hotel group. Print out and bring the confirmation page with you to the event.
It also says it is RECOMMENDED, which implies that multiple passes can be tied to one room indirectly; it's just that it would be easier if it was done all in one transaction.
If myself and four friends are only planning to be there for say, the final day, do we all still need to pay the full bronze pass amount for our badges?
On August 19 2011 11:49 kanadiasteve wrote: If myself and four friends are only planning to be there for say, the final day, do we all still need to pay the full bronze pass amount for our badges?
Yes. Our "day passes" are bronze passes and they grant access to all four days regardless if you will attend for only one. These are the cheapest available.

Personally, I prefer the system right now, where some of the best players get invited - three reasons.
First, it guarantees some sort of "racial balance". It would be horrible if 90% terrans and 10% P/Z qualified (not hating on the skilled terrans, but cmon now...). Second, it guarantees that some of the best players come, who "might" haven't bothered qualifiying. Compare this to MLG open brackets. Many european pro-gamers don't go to MLG unless they are seated. Thorzain for instance specificly stated that open brackets are too much of a risk for him. Third, the most obvious one: if everyone had to qualify, it's likely that a few top players get cheesed out by no-namers. Even though in the end probably only good players would survive, for an event of that scale it's too much of a risk.
New Update! We have heard your concerns and we have worked out a way for spectator packages to now no longer require hotel purchases. Our official website will reflect this change soon. However, you should take the time to book your rooms through our special event package, because the rate is better than anything you'll find at any other hotel in Atlantic City, nightly rate or for the entire weekend, plus you will be on location!
This means that you can purchase our various packages without having to commit to a room. This is especially helpful for locals who do not need hotel rooms but would still like the reserved seating and other perks. Check out our tickets page once again and keep watching for this change to go into effect: http://www.ign.com/ipl/starcraft2/tournaments/ipl3/tickets

Dear IGN,
I would highly encourage you to actually try making a reservation with this hotel. Typically you are allowed to select the number of rooms and the number of people you are booking for, but not on this website. You can only select people, and if you do that, your room rate skyrockets. So to reserve three rooms, I have to make three separate reservations online or... I could try calling them.
And then talk to 6 different people, 2 of whom want to usher me off to a mysterious voice mail phone number and another who sends me to the front desk who sends me back to the incompetent people in reservations.
All this on top of the fact that ACY, the airport in Atlantic City, is not a major airport.

Hi DawnMoore,
I have contacted the hotel regarding these issues and they should be fixed soon. In regards to the rate increases, if you select 1 or 2 adults, the rate does not increase. If you select 3 or 4, it does increase. So I recommend selecting just 2 adults and the double bed option if you'd like to book immediately.
As far as selecting multiple rooms, I will see if we can work with the hotel to enable multiple room booking at once. But until then, you will have to purchase them one at a time. The phone reservation service department for the hotel might not be aware of this particular hotel room rate package we are offering as it is a unique package deal that may not be available through normal reservation systems.
In regards to the airport, we recommend flying into Philadelphia Airport (PHL) and taking a shuttle to Atlantic City. On our travel page (http://www.ign.com/ipl/starcraft2/tournaments/ipl3/travel) we explain how to use a special group discount for Rapid Rover shuttle transportation to Atlantic City.

Yeah if they only invite 1 Korean, I would call that tokenism. It's only going to perpetuate the notion that IPL is an unfriendly league to Koreans. Hopefully, they wipe away the stigma and invite three Koreans.

I love how you are telling them what to do (sarcasm), the Koreans are most likely going to take most of the qualifier spots anyways.
Also if you want the Koreans so much why don't you start your own tourny instead of being so butthurt when there is going to be Koreans.

I love how you are telling them what to do (sarcasm), the Koreans are most likely going to take most of the qualifier spots anyways.

I ain't butthurt. The invited players are just weak preys for the Koreans. I'm just calling a spade, a spade.

That smiley must have been so painful to put in haha
I'm guessing the invites are for people who have had success in previous IPLs. If they want to get in they should qualify. The final spots should surely be for Mana and Nerchio.

Koreans weren't allowed to participate in the IPL1 + IPL2 qualifiers. So, how can you base it on success when Koreans weren't even given a chance?

Yeah if they only invite 1 Korean, I would call that tokenism. It's only going to perpetuate the notion that IPL is an unfriendly league to Koreans. Hopefully, they wipe away the stigma and invite three Koreans.
Am I getting trolled??
1) A crowd pleaser/viewership pick would be KOREANS! 2) 2/8 Koreans is still good, considering there will be quite a bit qualifying or flying. A weekend for a shot at at $30k? Yes please. 3) Dimaga, Huk, and Naniwa are actually really good....?

i dont like the group play part..its just for seeding.. compared to mlg´s all important pool play , wich is key to place well in the tourney , this one sucks..
also,single elim sucks... !
but best of luck, will watch as much as i can that weekend =) , great players for sure.

It seems like there is some confusion on how the seeding affects the championship bracket, believe me it helps them a lot. I'll try to get a graphic up explaining exactly how it goes early this week!

MLGs group play is also just for seeding O_o.
I can agree with single elimination sucking but if they want to cast all the games its pretty much what must be done and somewhat of a necessary evil, double elimination is a nice perk in the open bracket to compensate for that, overall this is a good balance imo.

MLG groupplay has a point to it, at the actual event (ignoring wether the players deserv to be in groupplay) it makes total sense and is not about seed, every better position guarantees you more money and fewer opponents to beat to reach the final..
This IPL-groupplay just sounds like a sorry excuse to get some games of the ppl who are qualified and invited and will end up losing their first game. I dont have a better suggestion atm, but pointless groupplay is pointless.. They better not do like MLG and neglect the "open bracket"-matches.. they seem to underestimate just how badly ppl want to see those too..

No, you just don't understand how beneficial seeding is. It's much better to get a high seed and fight a low seed and have a higher chance of advancing to the next round (and therefore more money). Unlike someone whose on the opposite end of that or near the middle.
I'm so done with people saying single elimination sucks.
Single elimination doesn't suck. It means it is all on the line, and there is complete pressure and tense moments at every point in the event. You can't afford to screw up, and that I like to watch. People just don't want to see their favorite players go out early, but at the end of the day I think as a viewer I enjoy the drama more than the long drawn out tournaments where some people has to win 30 BO's to get to the finals from the losers bracket. It sucks to watch a double elimination tournament drag on forever as some player is sitting in the top half of the winners bracket waiting.
How many other sports do double elimination? Almost all major sports out there follow the following format - Some sort of pool play/regular season/accumulative point seeding process -> Single elimination tournament. The only one I can think of right now is the little league world series, and that is because it involves 9 year olds.
Also single elimination tournaments give a much better finals format. I hate how double elimination tournaments either end up with extended series, or a situation where one player has to win 2 BO's and the other only one. I just want to see 2 players who are undefeated meet and play one BO 7 to see who the champion is, who played well enough to go through an entire bracket without losing a series.

Get real, in SC2, specially when unseeded koreans make themselves present there's little point to big seeding system, even less to play for seeds with unseeded players yet again.. I stand to my point it's close to pointless.
I don't think any Koreans should be invited just because the best will easily get through the open tournament anyway and having a good amount of foreigners is really enjoyable to watch .
kinda sux that u guys didnt reserve a spot(or two) in the main tournament for the top point earners from the qualifiers, woulda been nice if there was a small reward for all the players who are putting so much time/energy(and money) into qualifying for your tournament.. instead of giving away a shitload of freepasses =]

This is a decent point, I think in the future maybe top 8 getting free entry to the next qualification tournament would be a nice (albeit small) perk for those players.

We feel like the qualifiers offer an incredible opportunity for people to earn a fantastic reward and that while the risk of losing $20 is high, the reward is even higher.
I don't feel like 8 invites is a lot either considering how many players can be involved in this event.
It's worth considering for the future though, and we did consider that for IPL 3 as well.

Yeah, Koreans will most likely take all the qualifier spots and most of the open bracket slots at Caesar's palace depending on how many show up. For me, my preferred ratio is around 4:1 foreigners to Koreans for the simple fact that any more than that and the tournament becomes more predictable, which takes away the fun in watching it. A few Koreans have the chance of being knocked out, but when half the field is Koreans it becomes much less likely. At least it's not as bad as BW when 3 Koreans would come to WCG and beat everyone without even flinching. Everyone knew a Korean was going to WCG every year 100% and that was with only 3 Koreans attending.
Sorry if this sounds racist in anyway. It's certainly not meant to be. It's just the current state that the players from different regions are in and my desire to watch competitive StarCraft 2. I wouldn't much enjoy watching a league that had half NFL and half NCAA teams either.

I don't think many koreans are going to fly over to play in the open bracket, that's why I hope koreans take all 8 qualifying spots so we have a decent amount of koreans there.

Double elimination is to reward the players for their skill. How many people cry about some player who gets knocked out early by the eventual champion and people say "he's in a slump." No he's not, he could've made it to the finals or semis if he didn't meet that player so early. Player placements will be more reflective of their skill. I will cite every single GSL final as my evidence against that kind of system.
But you are right, a seeding process would also help solve that problem while at the same time preserving viewer sanity and a more dramatic finals.

Will there be booths for players on the main stage? Will spectators be allowed to watch the qualifier games from behind the players? When the theater is full is there another area for overflow Bronze spectators to watch?
One interesting idea I had was if the games are put on screens in the poker room. Poker + SC2 on monitor! For Sunday I would probably be glued to my theater seat, but for the earlier rounds this combo sounds fun.

Short answer: Maybe.
Long answer: Still working with the venue on regulations and rules for the main theater and figuring out if we can get space for a secondary viewing area. Still, the main hall seats 1,800.

Good idea, however, I'm sure you'll find plenty to do during the earlier rounds ;3
Also, remember that EVERY Ro32 finals game is shown on stage, including seeding matches, there's no downtime to great matches that can glue you to your seat.

I think you got the wrong end of the stick. The post that you are talking about IS in relation to the individual league. Reading the link makes it clearer
IGN, please put out an actual schedule of live (or first broadcast) events. Your stream is confusing because I never know what is on it, nor do I know when to tune in to watch it. Maybe you have it somewhere, that's fine, but you're losing fans like me because we don't know when you're on. NASL had a simple schedule and I knew when games were on. I don't feel the same with IPL. I find myself going "OH, IPL is on, i'll watch that..... Oh, this is just a random replay show or rerun.... blech." After doing this several times, I stop even checking.
I'm telling you this, because I doubt I'm the only one who does this.
IPL is broadcasting A LOT these days. There's the risk of flooding the market with so much content that the main product get diluted (which is the IPL tournament). I know that HD and PU get plenty of viewers when they do their IPL TV (re-broadcast it a few times, and you have even more!), so it makes economic sense maybe. But it has turned me off the IGN thing a bit. And I think I'm not the only one who doesn't get terribly excited by a cast of some random replays while being told the caster's Twitter and Facebook 50 times.
if they broadcasted for 5 hours a week, i would miss it. but since they stream so much, i end up watching quite a lot of it. and its all quality casting/players/games
so, i cannot sign up for the european qualifier because "such profile url is already taken"... what do i do now? maybe someone signed up using my profile.. i mean you can easily find out the profile link + id ...
One thing I really like about the IPL over other tournaments is how fairly the prizepool is distributed. Almost every tournament is overwhelmingly top heavy in prize distribution

IGN, can we get a schedule for the championship bracket. estimate start time for games and end time. I'd like to know if i need to book a stay sunday night as well because of finals estimated time.
This is probably just a typo, but do the players participating in the live qualifier need to have a NA account or will you be giving them one? The condition that one has to have a NA account is missing for the live qualifiers.

Hey Darkforce I forwarded this to Playhem and will let you know asap!
Or you can go to the venue itself and compete in the open bracket. Top 16 from the 256 man double elimination bracket will make the championship bracket. Information related to that is in the OP.

Why invite Boxer? Don't get me wrong, I loved seeing Boxer at MLG and NASL but it just seems like you guys are following everyone else's model and not looking at things practically.
Boxer's invite made sense to MLG at the time because he was just knocked out of Code A and he was fighting for a Code S spot. Why would a tournament with a $100,000 prize pool invite a Code B player now? On top of that the #4 player in GSL points gets told to play in your qualifiers?
I just think it's shortsighted. You could invite a player who NASL, Dreamhack, IEM, and MLG (your competitors) have all tried to get (MarineKing) but couldn't and is a top 4 player in the world but choose not to. Even Polt would be a better choice.

I think the "but couldn't" is a pretty big factor.
I think IEM is the second tournament that MKP has withdrawn from. That's not a good precedent to set. Plus, as good as MKP is, I'm sure you understand that BoxeR will draw in far more people due to his prolific history with eSports.

I recognize your points but you can't underestimate MKP's fanclub. And as popular as Boxer is the major success for NASL was Puma and MC. People barely remember Boxer competed. It's not really debatable that he's an attraction first and a competitor second but MKP is both.
But we can all disagree. The only group that's actually getting slighted in all this is China. I know tons of Chinese in New York would love to rock out in AC for Lovecd or Xigua and they're actually deserving.
On August 25 2011 08:23 Megiddosc wrote: If they're actually deserving then they can sign up for $20 and win the spots themselves.
What the hell? Discussing invite criteria and qualifier ability are two separate issues. You can be deserving of an invite and still probably not win one through a qualifier (White-Ra, Ret, etc.)
The problem with Chinese players is that they're so closed off from the rest of the sc2 scene. They don't play in Korea, they don't go to foreigner events. Only a couple of their tournaments have been casted in English, so it's hard to judge how good they really are.

Indeed. And you cant invite someone if you dont know much about his level. They need achievements first before they can be invited.
whoa, asked for special taktics and Boxer as invites and got them!
also, any chance this could be a double elimination tourney? Single elimination is a bit anti-climatic in sc2 for some reason, always good to see someone redeems himself out of the LB to challenge for the title.

Q: Will there be any betting on any matches in IPL 3? A: Nope!
this is awfully disappointing given you're holding it in atlantic city. oh well, there's always pinnacle.
Have you ever been to AC? Sportsbook betting there is illegal..
That said, for those of you who haven't been, I would HIGHLY suggest staying in Bally's or at least somewhere on the boardwalk. DO NOT stay in some shoddy motel.
As long as you're in a casino or on the boardwalk, you're fine. You really don't have any reason to stray from that area, nor should you. It can get very sketchy, very fast.

It makes sense. IGN is a way bigger organization than whatever the NASL's org is, with a lot more experience, they also started out small, which gave them more and more experience, and the way they structure their leagues makes much more sense (as in - not inviting 50 players for a 10 week lon league, it's just too long).
NASL should downside and set lower goals, make a smaller tournemant with invites, than invite the winner + whoever of that tournemant into the next and have some qualifiers etc etc.

EG.HuK is our second CONFIRMED Protoss invite, and our seventh overall. Keep watching to see who will be confirmed as our eighth and final invite for Atlantic City!

I don't think they would really leave boxer as the lone korean invite. However, maybe they will, which is why I want koreans to take all 8 qualifying spots so we have some koreans there as I'm not sure how many will fly out to play in the open bracket.
Why is there only one korean invited? is ign protecting foreign players by not inviting the best koreans? sure there are the qualifiers, but really its whoever hears about the qualifiers that determines which korean is going to qualify. (Do you really think a foreigner would have a smallest chance at qualifying if ALL the korean teams knew about the qualifiers?) Prime and Slayers know about the qualifiers, however there are 0 IM players, or ogs. If the last invite is nestea then i suppose that would make everything better. If ign didn't invite a top tier code s player as the last invite, perhaps it would mean that they don't want a korean stomping over everybody and instead have closer games.

Maybe those koreans just aren't signing up. Any of them with access to TL or twitter or a friend with TL access can know about this very easily.

Please pick Nestea, so he can win Blizzcon, GSL@Blizzcon, and IPL all in one fell swoop. For the sake of convenience and efficiency.
I don't think Boxer will be the only korean invited. And based on the fact that there are 3 terrans in the list... I'm thinking either a zerg or protoss.
I would love it when the guys from IPL would make the viewing schedules easier to follow. I usually have no idea if they play a replay or who plays when and for what. At least make a thread each day listing the bracket or who plays who, like for the GSL and other big leagues.
NOTE: If you are planning to COMPETE at the live qualifier at the event, you DO NOT need to purchase a spectator pass. Player passes are available now! http://bit.ly/qfpfjO for all spectator and player pass purchases.
Does this mean that the competitor pass covers competing + everything the silver pass includes (the IPL loot bag and spectating)?

Competitor pass (Master Badge) is equivalent to Bronze Level with additional benefits for being a competitor.
Edit: Benefits like access to practice computers, etc.
Hey IGN, I think you guys are doing a great job with your shows, but they are somewhat confusing to follow. For example, I just started watching the series with TLO vs Socke at game 2, and I there was no mention of where this game was from. I look on these tourney forums and there isn't a LR thread or anything. If I would have to guess, I'd' say they were from the IPL#3 qualifier 1, but I don't know of a good way of finding out. I went to your official site and it wasn't clear what your stream was showing.
I think it would be very helpful if you guys would have a LR thread when you go live that explains what games you are showing, what event it's from, and where in the bracket the games actually are. Thanks for you work.
edit:
Now that I went hunting on your site, I found your schedule page:
I guess I was just watching your community spotlight show. It would be nice if the schedule was a bit easier to find on your home page. It also be better if the schedule was more written out more clearly to show who is playing who. Also I think it'd make sense for the casters to say something like "You're watching the IPL TV community spotlight" around commercial breaks or something like that. Also it'd be nice to hear something like "For those of you just joining us or have never watched before, the community spotlight is a daily show where we...". Often when I tune in, I am very confused as to what I'm watching.
Now I realized that I posted this in the wrong thread. I'm guessing it should go in the IPL TV thread. I think I'll repost it there.
I think MC will unfortunately be the final invite. I can't see them inviting 4 terrans, and I feel the last invite has to be a Korean. This leaves MC or Nestea as the invite. However, I don't think they would have invited Ret if they were going to invite Nestea... I think they invited him mainly because they needed at least 2 decent zerg.

I would say IGN season 1 and 2 weren't popular because the games were 1-2 month old by the time they got broadcast so players just seemed off. I live event will change that ofc!!!

I am hoping the same thing NASL is trash compared to IPL in alot of ways, the thing is though i dont agree with the way IPL did their set up for the past two seasons, broadcasting the matches 1-2 months after they happen just doesnt work at all, i think they probably know this by now and will change it. Alot of people want to see the latest styles with the latest tweaks and nuances in the meta game. Alot of people dont go back to watch matches fromm 1-2 months ago unless they are epic, and with all the new live starcraft 2 content coming out every day, why would they?
This live tournament should be great though, great invites so far, and it will be mostly koreans through the qualifiers so that is a huge plus (at least for me)
Im sure this live tournament will be a huge success and IPL will be inclined to do more of them because im pretty sure it will have much more success (and its just one weekend) then their whole 2 month tournaments have had.
With the amount of advertising they can do through their site they could easily attract alot of new eyes to the scene as well through a tournament like this. I think newcomers are way way way more inclined to watch a live event then they are to just watch an online tournament.
Maybe if this tournament is a success IPL will switch to more of a live tournament circuit , we will have to see how it goes, with players like slayers boxer though i think it will go great! XD
Cant wait IGN you guys are doing a great job! I still loved the production value behind IPL it was just hard to get behind it with such a delay between when the matches were played and when they are broadcast.
I'd like to confirm with anyone that knows this but i could of sworn i read a post on TL which i can not find about a 50% Discount for today. The post of could of been deleted therefore concluding it was a mistake but i'm almost 100% sure i read it from HDstarcraft.

I agree with this. I know they need a long lead time to do their great production work, but I would honestly sacrifice some production quality to have more recent games shown. Casting from replays is fine, but casting from 1-2 month old replays puts a damper on things.

That's for spectator packages for our live event in Atlantic City! These: http://www.eventbrite.com/event/2036777055 Except for the Master's Pass, which is for players.
It's after 4pm edt; any word on that discount code? Also, any advice for a first time esport attendee? Is the reserved seating really worth an extra 50$?

Invites make me T_T. Not about who they are, but people getting into tourneys for free. Sure it helps the tournament but it makes it hard for new talent to rise up and make a name for themselves.

that's why they have the online qualifiers. The new talent can earn the free travel and accommodation as well.
I'm not going to lie, I am a little bitter that I will have paid most likely twice as much for the same seat as the person sitting next to me simply due to the fact that I got my ticket earlier.

quick question, ordered 4 tickets last night, but one of the tickets might go unused (they aren't sure if they can make it but want to). Will I still be able to get the swag bag from that ticket at least? Or what is the return policy? Each person's name is on the ticket, but my name is on the bottom since I bought them all.

I appreciate the answer... maybe you can add this into your TL streaming profile? It's just confusing because you're always on the "event streaming list" on the right side bar, but many times that's just replays of previously streamed events. I've also noticed you added "rebroadcast" to some of your replays, much <3.

ok, great. just making sure that i'd be able to pick up the bag without having the fourth person in the party present, cause it said you needed ID to pick up passes.

ID of the badge holder or the badge purchaser iirc.
Edit: I'll have to double check with my registration manager. We may need to check the ID of the badge holder for legal/security issues.
Edit 2: You need the ID of the badge holder or the badge purchaser, either will do, so you ARE able to pick up a badge for someone if they are arriving later.
Not sure if this is the correct thread for it but I was wondering why MaNa and Nerchio were not invited given their great performances last season. I assume it's an issue with age? Or they declined the invite?

The sale for the spectator pass made our basic ticket (access for a 4 day event + a swag bag) only $25. The hotel rates are the cheapest in the area... This gives you a day and a half longer for a lower price than MLG... And you get a swag bag. o_O

4 day event, games played for 10 hours or more each day. Cheapest ticket price is 50 USD. Hotel rate is roughly 600 USD. If you share a room and stay 5 nights, that comes out to 60 USD per person per night. If you split the room 3 or 4 ways, even cheaper.
All together it comes to under 400 USD for 5 nights in Atlantic City and 4 days of games if you go with a friend AND you get a loot bag if you order online now.
If you're good at poker, you can make that up in one evening at a table.
Expensive is fairly relative in this case, me thinks -- if you consider it a vacation, it's pretty inexpensive.

No one really plays poker at Caesar's or any casino in that area of AC. You'd have to drive/taxi to the Taj or Borgata to get some decent games.
The influx of nerds for this specific weekend may change that though.
Bought tickets! A friend and I are coming over from Ireland for two week America holiday. A reason to re-visit New York, and have a four day starcraft event. I'm pretty damn excited.
Oh my god, so happy for Ryung. That guy is definitely lacking recognition despite his beautiful plays. As for the other player, it seems that at the live venue, nobody will get out alive. Too bad Socke didn't make it, though. But I guess that's just the difference in training.
Nestea has to be the last invite (going back on my previous post).
We are awaiting on his response to MLG's invite, so it must be he is just slow on responding to these invites. Which lends support to the last invite being Nestea and him taking his time to respond to it.
Haha would love to see dimaga get in on this, even if it would be hard to travel to NA for him he prize pool would be worth it and he is good at online tournies sooo.

Hi Imbemboo. This is correct. If you get knocked you, your Masters Pass still acts just like a Bronze Pass -- aka you'll have full access to the event and access to the open seating areas in the main stage.

I beg to differ. One of people's biggest complaints about IGN is their broadcast schedule and how hard it is to find it and whether or not what is currently on is a rebroadcast or live.

So basically, if you are 18-20 years old and want to spectate, just buy a competitor pass, which is cheaper than most spectator passes, and you might get a chance to play against Gordon Hayward or MKP. Loopholes ftw!
-Cross (Update: Just got told that there are no day passes, to which I say BOO. Some people just want to come view an event, and can't do a 4-day vacation for it. Please accomodate, IGN!)
If I buy "Masters" (competitor) pass to compete in the tournament after I get knocked out can I spectate and have access to seating area ? Or I have to buy a spectators pass ? That would sound like hell of a bargain 50 for spectators pass and only 10 bucks more to compete .
I'm sorry for posting it again someone actually asked such question but I didn't see any answer

Hello Crosswind.
You can buy a Silver or Bronze ticket for USD 50 which lets you access the event for all 4 days. You can choose to stay for just one day or return for any of the other days.
I have heard similar requests for day passes from other fans. Do you see this as a large deterrent to attending the event?
I'd like to see how big the community request for day passes are.

I'd imagine it'd be pretty hard to determine how many people would want to buy a day-pass when you don't offer them. It'd be like trying to determine the ratings for a tv station that doesn't exist.

Hrm...it sounds like he's asking what the community request for it is - aka the people who post here. So if enough people post about it they might change for the event/the future.
As it stands though, you could have bought a pass at 40/50% off (about 25$) which is cheap than the freakin' movie theater these days and that would get you in for the whole event (I assume if you couldn't make it a vacation you could at least drive up for a day, drive home, and maybe drive up for the finals).

Well worth it if you use the discount code.
It would be great idea to make some kind of a day pass, especially in location like Atlantic City. There is plenty of people wondering about boardwalk and all the casinos that making such pass for 20$ would bring a lot of extra money. Anyways it wouldn't cost much to organise such ticket and it brings extra option for buyer, extra cash for tournament, most likely bring a lot of new random spectators, better promotion for sponsors and its kinda win win idea so why not to try ? :D

Well, you can think of it this way. The event is in October. October means the majority of your target audience is in school (or work), especially since its 21+ spectators. Furthermore, October tends to be exam month. Two days of the event occur on a Thursday and Friday. Maybe Saturday & Sunday morning is the only feasible time for one to be there because they have to be back by Sunday night due to obligations on a Monday. This idea can shuffle with the week, adapting to many schedules.
The location is in New Jersey. The northeastern United States is lucky as major cities arent that far apart, making it easy to accomodate day trips or a weekend trip.
Lets take the rest of the country. Despite long drives / air travel, leaving on a Friday to get there late that night, stay for the day on Saturday, then come back Sunday -- a day pass makes sense.
Just thinking about it like that, then day passes make sense. It expands the audience (always good), and costs (almost) nothing to implement (just database changes)
I know for myself, weekdays are a deterrent from doing these things, especially cause my location (wyoming / montana / insert rural western state here) is problematic since live events require population density and Denver, being one the the closer cities, is rarely used due to the neighboring densities (or maybe state law, i dunno).
Please the adds are still about 50% higher than the ordinary cast, it ruins my watching at nighttime since I shit my pants everytime the adds start (my neighbors complain)

Speaking from the experience of TL Attacks, we've learned that anything that's TBA is probably Hot_Bid. Clearly he's the secret weapon still being hidden by IPL to win the tournament via a combination of observing and cheese.
But, yeah, I suppose it builds suspense for it not to be announced, or it isn't confirmed yet...either way seems fine for now.

We've figured out a way to make day passes available for Saturday, October 8th and Sunday, October 9th for $15 each. If you want to go for just the weekend, it'll only be $30 instead of $50! You can buy these day passes right now on our normal ticket sales page http://www.eventbrite.com/event/2036777055 or at the door on either Saturday or Sunday! We hope this allows more people who had obligations on Thursday or Friday to be able to attend and enjoy our event!
Saturday and Sunday contain the entirety of our championship bracket games. =)
In case you missed Live on 3 last night with djWheat, SirScoots, and Slasher, they announced that there will be a Live, in-person version of Live on 3 at IPL Origins in Atlantic City! More information will be released as we continue to lock down times throughout the event, so keep your eyes peeled. =)

My girlfriend and I just won Silver tickets to the event (at the Philly Barcraft last night, which was totally awesome!). It's not a problem if we only can show up to two or three days, instead of all four, right? The tickets are good for any amount of the entire event, even if we come late?

It was a fantastic atmosphere! I'm happy we got there early to get good seats, because a lot of people showed up. The audio and video were great quality (the main screen was huge) and the Razer and ticket prizes were just icing on the cake!

I think its just skepticism from it being IGN's first real big tournament. If it goes well, then IGN viewership could get up to MLG / Dreamhack numbers, especially towards finals day. It's primarily all about word of mouth.
I am curious about how many tickets have been sold though, and if it is meeting or beating their expectations.
I was just thinking... if you coud get gsl to give a code s spot for this tourney... your viewers will go up like tenfold. Get on the phone with gom and make it happen!
Edit: Orrrrr. Live stream over G4??? That would be insannneeee!
Will there be a list of players in the live qualifier before the event starts? I'm about 4 hours away and if there aren't many players I'd like to see, it will save me a lot of money on a hotel to stay home.
The event is looking really good so far. I do agree that it isn't getting that much attention though - which I'm very surprised at since it is a nice prize pool for a weekend event.

on Eventbrite, the service that they use to sell the tickets through, you can Modify Ticket. On there you should be able to change the name/address/ etc on the ticket to your friend's info. The ticket itself is specific to the person picking it up, but if you change the info before the event, technically that ticket is now in that other person's name. They will need photo ID to pick up their badge. I am 99% sure about this, but you may still want to waif on IGN to confirm.

Hey guys quick question but does anyone know if the discounted rate is still available for hotel rooms? A friend of mine was able to grab a flight out here for the tournament for last minute and he's having issues adjusting the rate to the discounted rate that was originally posted on the IPL website which was about 500 bucks for the 4 days.

Unlike in NASL where there was only one open bracket qualifier there are 16 ranked open bracket qualifiers. So the skill level among this 16 should be quite varied and the top out of pool play should have easier opponents.
Question, so today I picked up my player pass and stuff, and on the sheet of paper outlining the times for open qualifier, it says round 1 heat 1 is at 11am but on the TL portal it says it's at 1PM? Need clarification :3

I think its the streaming of the open bracket (likely not live if you start at 11, and it streams at 1) -- its the second free stream.

I get to sit in my IT office for my school. Basically I can sit there and watch starcraft for most of the day, because nobody will probably come in from 8 to 5, and here is what usually happens when someone does come in:
"I can't connect to the server" ok... easy fix... make them log into the right network and type in \\archserver2
"I cant print" ok... easy fix... punch in the IP address of whatever printer they want to use
"I cannot connect to the wireless" can be odd at times, but for the most part it is... click on the network, make them enter their username and password. If that fails, make them reset it. IF it fails to autodetect network settings, then I set it up manually... which isn't hard either, but meh.

The theory behind the RO32 seeding is that the top 4-8 should easily walk over the people in OB 9-16, essentially making it easy to advance to the RO16.
In reality, it probably isn't that meaningful because we don't know who will be in the bottom half of the open bracket. It certainly isn't as meaningful as MLG's system.
Whether they use 1 large bracket or multiple small brackets, whether or not top players eliminate each other early on, etc... these are all factors that play. This makes this system not as strong as the MLG seeding, because it isn't a guaranteed place further up in the championship bracket.
Multiple smaller brackets combined with randomization could put "weaker" players further up in the bracket (IE top 4 in 4 brackets). Likewise, the distribution of stronger players could be evenly spread, and you have top-players in the top 16.
One large bracket increases chances of early elimination of "strong" players, giving "weaker" players a chance to be in the top 16.

This gonna be so aswesome, eventhough I'm not so sure about what to think of the format. The group play is only for seeding within the Ro32? At MLG you at least progress to a later round. Seems kinda weird and unrewarding :/
I have to say good job to IPL for starting the games fairly early so that us europeans have a chance to watch them without having to take days off / messing up our sleep schedule.
I don't think the pool play is such a bad thing, I have a feeling that the caliber of players that come out of the open bracket in the top 4 spots will be very impressive. None of the qualifiers/invites will want to hit them first up in single elim.

How come this is listed on the TL schedule on the right side bar pm the site.
Wow! That taxi company surely knows how to charge lol. Must be a long drive !
You can do that. But not all posters know how to do it. :-)

I think the group matches today are only for seeding so not worth it probly. Save that day off for the finals :p
Question: I'm still planning on subscribing to IGN Prime (if i get my administration in order in time), because i want to see the panels... but it's unlikely i can watch it live, because i'm a Euro, have a job and have to sleep as well. Will there be VODs available for the Prime content? Will i have lifelong acces to VODs that are released during the time that i'm subscribed to IGN Prime or only have acces during that period?
Would be cool, but less important to me: Will there be an easy way to synchronize first person view VODs with the casted VOD of a game?

Lol at the copy/paste (including the part about getting my administration in order ). At least the IPL TV site has a button called "Video on Demand"... i took the chance and subscibed to IGN Prime yesterday. If the Prime stream content won't be VODed, it will be a bad beat... but i will still have amazing bonus content when i can watch live and at the very least i got a free unrated Girls of Gaming PDF o_O .
IPL.TV says: "Join IGN Prime today to get instant access to these exclusive live streams: Player Vision 1, Player Vision 2, VIP Caesars, and VIP Bally's."
Is there a way to buy like an event pass to watch all the streams including the players view? And no I am not interested in a two year or one year monthly subscription.
Amazing prodcution quality....only jsut started watching......has anyone seen a shot of the crowd???? i am wondering how full the arena is...really hope its a success
For those who are facing lags and low sound, press split screen and then caesars and you will be able to choose sound options and quality options to put down the quality and the get the sound up higher.

Yeah I meant it would be nice if he did it, not if he could. Bad wording on my end

The theater where the groups are being played wasn't packed at all yesterday. It looked like 70-80 people whenever I was there. Didn't see much of the area in Bally's except for Lo3 last night, but Lo3 had a pretty decent turn-out, and I see a ton of people with badges walking around. Might be because most people are getting here Friday/Saturday, people aren't as excited about the group stage, and/or how split up the qualifier and the groups are.
Hopefully when everything is concentrated in 1 location Saturday/Sunday we can start to fill Circus Maximus up.

That is incorrect. There are no problems right now. The schedule they released weeks ago had LoL from 6:30-8:30 listed. They want the finals to get a lot of exposure. SC2 Semi Finals second match starts again at 8:30.
yea that was a really good event!!! Love the coverage (even when the power went out ) but I do have on suggestion, I think that IPL needs to have a better awards ceremony, it seemed way to unorganized and very uneventful.....but all in all it was an amazing event and I can’t wait until IPL 4!!!!! =]=] gg Stephano!!!!!!!<3<3
Amazing tournament! Wonderful job with the caster rotation. Also the roaming cameras were a life saver during the internet downtime. The matches had me on the edge of my seat and I am glad I stayed home to watch them!
Also, huge congratulations to Stephano. He is an amazing player and really showed what he can do this weekend. I do say he might have made a few fans

I can't agree more for such an amazing event all the way through it has such an anti climatic finsih. I know you will fix this minor issue at IPL4. Thanks for such an amazing event. Now I have to find something to entertain myself, i've been spoiled.
The good : Overall really good event from IPL. Major thumbs up. The games were perfect and the "internet crisis" was handled reasonable well out of a internet viewer perspektive. The general action flow was okay, not too much time between games and always something else to watch for the time. The repetition of the Videos could be better but one can live with that. Casters did there job really well, although i don't really like all of them, i can say from an objective point they did a good job there.
The bad : I did not like the "player interviews". I'm not really sure why. The player's seemed not to be really into them and i think this partly because the question they were asked, which where very general and did not have more content than "how does X feel". I'd prefer something like the Nasl interviews (the one gretorp does during the online broadcast not the one on the offline event which where terrible as far as i remeber) which focus more on the game and the actions the player took in it. There the player is on familiar ground and feels more comfortable so the interview should be better for all participants. I have to add that my opinion might not be the most based on the most objective reasons, because i really really dislike both persons that did the interviews.
What could be better : The openbracket coverage and the round of 32. I know that one organisation can't cover all the matches that are going on but i think that you don't have to. Just do it like Dreamhack and allow other casters to take some of the matches. To increase the awarness of the tournement sponsors you can just give them somekind of commercial material that they play between games. It's likely to increase viewers because in germany, russia, france, etc. people often favor casts in their own language. As the tournement progresses you can just limit the games to your own casters.
Hope this is helpful and in the right place (if it's not please tell me a better one so i can post it there). I'm really thankful for the troubles you went through to bring us such a good event and i hope the next one will be even better.
Impressive production levels, free HD stream running at 60 FPS, downtime constantly filled with worthwhile content. Everything about this tournament was top notch. Oh, the games and the players were awesome too :D
Only little problem I had was that, while I have nothing against HD and PU, I felt it would have been much better to use Apollo's preparation in the finals.
A big gg to all the staff who made this tournament possible.
Amazing tournament! My first live event and it was really great.
Props: 1. Player pool - totally sick. 2. Minimal down time. 3. Great casting. 4. high production value
Slops: 1. Venue - honestly I was not a fan of the casino environment. Had to walk ages to get between the qualifier area / main stage, lots of rude drunk people around (not necessarily members of the eSports community), etc. There are many other venues available on the East coast and New Jersey specifically - Somerset, Newark (super convenient area to get to!!!!), NYC, Philadelphia. I know New Jersey in particular has some very harsh liquor laws, so hopefully there is a compromise to be made somewhere. 2. So many good games did not get casted! thorzain/huk/select/etc. 3. Cost/value if you didn't get half price tickets. I got my tickets half price, but if I didn't I would have felt like I didn't really get much for it considering that there was pretty much nothing else "officially" going on except for the games. There should be some perks to being at the live event - player panels, signing/meet and greets, things like that.
Overall really positive experience! Looking forward to the next 4 events, thank you so much to David Ting and all the IPL staff.
Let someone more knowledgeable about the game and can ask more questions pertaining to the just recently played game do the postgame interviews. Or just let the casters do it please.
I think Rachel and Anna did a pretty good job actually. The post game interview isn't really supposed to be about strategy or game related at all. Do I think they can be better? Of course, but I don't think they necessarily have to give Anna and Rachel the boot. Anna was super cheesy though...tone it down some.
Dress down Anna/Rachel a bit. Its not the Oscars. Make sure nobody runs down your internetpole (lol).
So there, thats it for complaints.
Overall awesome. Really appreciate the amount of "silly" in between the games. Deathlord vs Goliath for example. If there is no "real" game to go, doing silly stuff is awesome.
I wasnt even watching from the start. I regret that. I will definitely be watching more of the live tournament next time.
This new younger guy caster really needs to work on sounding more objective and exciting and less like a 16 year old dissing his most unliked band. Alot of facts/things he observes he mentions with a somewhat snarly voice and it really grinds my gears, ok to judge a great player who playes bad at times but christ not everything is worth dissing :/
EDIT: Joshua or what his name was. Also link on stream is still towards this topic so I don't know where else to whine about what I think is bad casting.
