Yeah seriously, putting an entry fee is basically like putting a poll tax to discriminate against Koreans.

Evenly distributed prize pools are important, but grand finals that have a such a small difference in prize money between first and second place seem to take some of the competitive edge out of the games. Or maybe it just seems that way as a spectator because less is riding on the result. $30,000 vs $12,000 isn't a big difference to you? That's gigantic... I'd argue almost too much of a difference, but I do like how they are spreading the money to the top 32. I'd prefer this breakdown (only difference is 1st-3rd) since it's easier to understand, you still have $10,000 riding on the finals and it makes the 3rd/4th place match more interesting: 1st: $25,000 2nd: $15,000 3rd: $10,000 4th: $6,000 5th – 8th: $3,000 9th – 16th: $2,000 17th – 32nd: $1,000 I would also recommend inviting the top 8 from the previous IPL in order to make it feel like a "league" rather than completely separate events. This still allows 75% of the spots to be open to anyone. Also, props for not having boring placement matches outside the top 4! I will be watching... this is awesome IGN!
That's not fair because Koreans couldn't possibly have been in top 8. At most, the top 5 and 3 korean invites.
EDIT: To further this, if you invite 3 koreans they almost have to be Nestea, MC, and MVP. They are the top of each race and arguably the 3 top players period. (InbeforeBomber).
Though you almost have to see them doing 4 koreans and 4 foreigners because for an event of this size you absolutely want the biggest celebrity in esports there... Boxer.
*shrug*

I get the reference so don't say I'm not getting it.
Buuuut, I still want to point out that the NASL open tournament had plenty of Koreans from TSL and it had a $10 entry fee.

Oh wow... You guys are like 1-uping every tournament out there. I hope that reserved seating is actually enforced unlike at MLG. We need beefy ushers to guard my seat from Xeris.

Better to treat the best players are rockstars rather than foreigners who get way more press than they deserve because of their race.

Most tournaments wouldn't give you 100% free flight, hotel and minimum $1000 for winning a qualifier sir!

I'm assuming sound proof booths are a given at this point?
Also, how much will a pass be to go as a spectator?

I don't think that is nearly enough seating. With such limited seating they could literally charge like $100 a spectator. = /

why does everyone think koreans deserve special treatment? i feel like they should have to deal with everyone just like everyone else they dont get to have everyone do everything for them and they have to just live with it

Pretty sure he's just poking fun at the whole NASL/Korean teams fiasco where they cited the entry fee being one of the reasons not to participate. That whole ordeal is quite a mess and no one really knows what's going on, but I wouldn't doubt that some Koreans will participate anyway.
|
Is this being heavily marketed to the Korean teams to offset their seeming dislike of foreign events? Do they all know how huge it is in terms of both venue and prize pool?
Seems like so many things get lost in translation, or just not translated to the Koreans (and vice versa) that this is really important. Or we as spectators just don't see this process. Hard to say.

Can you sign up for multiple online qualifiers if you don't win a spot in the 1st, etc?
