MLGs group play is also just for seeding O_o. I can agree with single elimination sucking but if they want to cast all the games its pretty much what must be done and somewhat of a necessary evil, double elimination is a nice perk in the open bracket to compensate for that, overall this is a good balance imo.

That leaves 2 spots for Koreans. Nestea and MC are the obvious choices there... though MVP or Boxer could pull off an invite.

MLG groupplay has a point to it, at the actual event (ignoring wether the players deserv to be in groupplay) it makes total sense and is not about seed, every better position guarantees you more money and fewer opponents to beat to reach the final.. This IPL-groupplay just sounds like a sorry excuse to get some games of the ppl who are qualified and invited and will end up losing their first game. I dont have a better suggestion atm, but pointless groupplay is pointless.. They better not do like MLG and neglect the "open bracket"-matches.. they seem to underestimate just how badly ppl want to see those too..

Only about 70 people signed up for this qualifier. Still an unfortunate pairing though.

It's much better to get a high seed and fight a low seed and have a higher chance of advancing to the next round (and therefore more money). Unlike someone whose on the opposite end of that or near the middle.

Single elimination doesn't suck. It means it is all on the line, and there is complete pressure and tense moments at every point in the event. You can't afford to screw up, and that I like to watch. People just don't want to see their favorite players go out early, but at the end of the day I think as a viewer I enjoy the drama more than the long drawn out tournaments where some people has to win 30 BO's to get to the finals from the losers bracket. It sucks to watch a double elimination tournament drag on forever as some player is sitting in the top half of the winners bracket waiting. How many other sports do double elimination? Almost all major sports out there follow the following format - Some sort of pool play/regular season/accumulative point seeding process -> Single elimination tournament. The only one I can think of right now is the little league world series, and that is because it involves 9 year olds. Also single elimination tournaments give a much better finals format. I hate how double elimination tournaments either end up with extended series, or a situation where one player has to win 2 BO's and the other only one. I just want to see 2 players who are undefeated meet and play one BO 7 to see who the champion is, who played well enough to go through an entire bracket without losing a series.

Get real, in SC2, specially when unseeded koreans make themselves present there's little point to big seeding system, even less to play for seeds with unseeded players yet again.. I stand to my point it's close to pointless.

I don't feel like 8 invites is a lot either considering how many players can be involved in this event. It's worth considering for the future though, and we did consider that for IPL 3 as well.
