Wtf has idra won.. ever? I mean yeah he won an early MLG (before koreans and europeans even attended) and that all american 16 player invite tournament.. but that's it. Winning this and assembly makes ret a bigger player in terms of accomplishment, but he's also a whole lot better just looking at performance right now.

is winning really the only significant thing?

How else are you gonna measure success? Losing?

Yes placing second is really losing. Get a reality check mate

Should Naniwa get a reality check too?

He didn't look like the guy who just won.

You make him sound like his the incarnation of some sun God. Maybe he is indeed to hard on himself? Actually Naniwa already thinks high of himself, he is just a bit sad he did not place first, but really, he is a winner and Im sure he knows this as well.

What about MarineKing then? He seems to be taking it rather hard as well.

Maybe you need to reconsider your stance on that.

Yes, second place is a good ranking for an up and coming player, and such a player will be reasonably happy about placing second in a big tournament. And even that's not always the case, as we've seen with MMA in the super tournament.

For people who want to and are expected to win trophies? No fucking way. Not even close. They feel awful, and it's normal that they do. In some ways it's the worst ranking they can get.

yes then they need a reality check

Yes, people who are motivated, determined and want to win need a reality check...what?

Yes they lost all their matches to that third/second place.

Consistency. Learn it, Read it, Love it. It will get you somewhere

He won Winter Assembly and has also had pretty good showings at every MLG this season, as well as having a great NASL season. Ret hasn't played in that much, but you can't call him inconsistent. o.o

They're all very, very good and at times show glimpses that they could be "the best", at least temporarily. It's silly to argue over an absolute best, though.

Exactly my thoughts... Unlike terrans, protoss players seem to have stopped doing the one base all ins or early pressure, allowing zergs to start with three bases (?), droning up to 60+ drones in the first few minutes.

I totally cannot understand this trend. Ret was playing the same style few months ago and was blown away in Korea by early pàressure, always overdroning being his doom and now the same style reaps rewards. And please don't tell me how much he has improved - Ret has always been a macro beast, looks like his time has come.

I can't make a 4 gate work against Zerg in Master league, so I've great doubts that it will ever work at this level.
Protoss simply can't put pressure on the Zerg, and Zerg have figured out that these voidray/phoenixes harass were easily shut down by a few spore crawlers.
So what can you do as Protoss ?

Random timing pushes still occasionaly work though.
Sad thing is that they it relies entirely on Zerg mistakes.

Btw with the exception of MLG (dominated by Korean Terrans), every recent tournaments have been won by Zerg: GSL code S, WCG China, Assembly, now blizzcon, and btw one of the finalist of the current GO4SC2 is a Zerg as well (second might also be Zerg).
And the most depressing is that you can't blame the infestors for that... It's more due to the fact that Zerg players learned how to use their lategame units and repell the timing pushes...

That's what I have been saying for months now, only difference is I think the lack of 1 base play for P against zerg comes from the warpgate nerf(4 gate) which was the only real 1 base play you could do against zerg
Now we have....umm well.....cannons i guess.

I would much rather have a macro spell which matches inject larvae in a macro game rather than being able to pull out gimmicky 1 base blind all-in.

That was not my point. It was the fear of a possible 1 base allin that kept zergs from mass expanding and droning.

Even if you would revert he WG upgrade to what it was, it wouldn't have much incidence on the issue of Zerg macro.
Zerg used to lose macro games against Protoss because of stupid mistake they simply don't do anymore.
When was the last time you saw a pro Zerg losing his 3rd due to DT ? Or not having 1 single sporecrawlers after the first voidray of Protoss ? Or getting maxed with roaches at 200 food and waiting to lose the final engagement with over 3000 minerals and 500 gaz banked ?
This was happening a lot before, even on GSL code S.

There simply never was a safe way to put pressure on the Zerg, not relying on Zerg mistakes, which is the key problem.
4 Gate all-in for Protoss is extremly risky and was already starting to fade off before the nerf.

Just because you are not motivated in the thing you do and are happy with a 2nd place does not mean someone else needs a reality check. Some people just want to get the most out of themselves and be the best at something. Some people have ambition and will do anything to reach their goal. Please don't post such stupid things.

Sen is pretty good, but not particularly consistent, only really did well at NASL after a long long run of unsuccessful tournaments. The only thing Idra is consistent at is mediocrity, he has been going to alot of tournaments lately and never breaking top 3 in any of them.

He's been to a lot of tournaments???? WHAT. All he does is MLG and IPL. What tournaments does he go to???????

Homestory, dreamhack, every MLG? Notable performances in none of them.

He won MLG DC and got 4th at MLG Columbus.

DC was quite a bit ago cmon, ret won assembly last winter but that doesnt tell us about his shape now?

He's the one who brought up every MLG.

I think winning one is a notable performance.

4th place isn't something to sneeze at either, considering the top 3 were Koreans and this thread is talking about foreigners.

not sure what to answer, so you think that to see how good a player is now we should look at all the results they had? that's nonsense currently players like dimaga and ret step it up winning in very hard competitions vs top players , if Idra does the same he can be considered again among the best no problem;) not saying he's bad by any means , just saying that right now he's not equal with other top zergs

In this particular conversation I'm not even discussing "how good is IdrA?"

I'm correcting an incorrect statement:

Homestory, dreamhack, every MLG? Notable performances in none of them.

This statement simply isn't true. It's factually false.

ye he had a top 4 two MLGs ago, gratz

You're completely clueless, gratz.

I wouldn't take anything away from Nerchio. He is very young, he doesn't have any stage experience, it was really hard for him to concentrate and play his 100%. You can clearly see that he prefers playing online events in his house without pressure.

He is consistant and of course you can see him in one line with Idra and Sen. Dont see any problems here.

Edit: Awesome, I just saw that its already my birthday in KST.

People underrate him because he was losing hard in the gsl. Which has the most brutal competition in the world.
