Sen.

And dimaga.

And IdrA

Not by recent showing, but do we have to bring IdrA up every time a zerg player wins? Come on.

I don't think it's too offensive to bring up IdrA. Speaking of foreign Zergs in recent major tournaments, IdrA was the highest placing foreign Zerg at MLG Anaheim.

You know things aren't working out well for someone when you start listing "highest placing X of all Y of the nationality Z in this one tournament" as an accomplishment but he actually wasn't even in top 10 of that tournament.

Let's not forget Idra gets dominated by Nani and Thorzain too, so...

Ret is at this very moment the best non-Korean Zerg. He would be that based on yesterday's games alone, even if he lost to Thorzain today.

The level at which he plays the game is so much higher than other foreign Zergs at this moment. Nobody ever dominated Nani and Thorzain like this since their rise to the top. Nobody.

MLG had koreans this tournament didn't, there is no doubt Koreans would have won this if they went. Ret went to MLG Anaheim too, but placed lower than IdrA. I don't like IdrA either but you are making a straw man.

Ret and Idra pretty much had the same showing at Anaheim, except Ret got eliminated 2-1 by Ganzi (you know, the dude from SlayerS, the team who had the best minds in the game handcraft a new TvZ build).

Idra got eliminated 2-0 by Naniwa. The guy who... we've just seen get completely dominated.

Straw man is bringing up their final ranking while ignoring f the circumstances under which the rank was achieved.

Oh god no please tell me you're trolling

Are you TRYING to suggest

Naniwa > Idra
Ret > Naniwa
Therefore Ret > Idra?

I'm trying to suggest he's playing at a different level to Idra right now. I mean, that's obvious just from watching their recent games, I don't even need results as an argument.

Other people are bringing up Anaheim results, so I'm just saying how it all went down.

And yeah, that logic works pretty well to demonstrate the superiority of Ret's vP (Nani) and vT ( Tarson and Thorzain) too.

But really - just watch the games. If you don't see it for yourself, you probably just refuse to.

You do understand that there are DIFFERENT matchups right???????

just because naniwa beat idra and ret beat naniwa doesnt mean that ret can beat idra. It's a different matchup. Learn the game

Sen is pretty good, but not particularly consistent, only really did well at NASL after a long long run of unsuccessful tournaments. The only thing Idra is consistent at is mediocrity, he has been going to alot of tournaments lately and never breaking top 3 in any of them.

He's been to a lot of tournaments???? WHAT. All he does is MLG and IPL. What tournaments does he go to???????

Homestory, dreamhack, every MLG? Notable performances in none of them.

He won MLG DC and got 4th at MLG Columbus.

DC was quite a bit ago cmon, ret won assembly last winter but that doesnt tell us about his shape now?

He's the one who brought up every MLG.

I think winning one is a notable performance.

4th place isn't something to sneeze at either, considering the top 3 were Koreans and this thread is talking about foreigners.

Exactly my thoughts... Unlike terrans, protoss players seem to have stopped doing the one base all ins or early pressure, allowing zergs to start with three bases (?), droning up to 60+ drones in the first few minutes.

I totally cannot understand this trend. Ret was playing the same style few months ago and was blown away in Korea by early pàressure, always overdroning being his doom and now the same style reaps rewards. And please don't tell me how much he has improved - Ret has always been a macro beast, looks like his time has come.

I can't make a 4 gate work against Zerg in Master league, so I've great doubts that it will ever work at this level.
Protoss simply can't put pressure on the Zerg, and Zerg have figured out that these voidray/phoenixes harass were easily shut down by a few spore crawlers.
So what can you do as Protoss ?

Random timing pushes still occasionaly work though.
Sad thing is that they it relies entirely on Zerg mistakes.

Btw with the exception of MLG (dominated by Korean Terrans), every recent tournaments have been won by Zerg: GSL code S, WCG China, Assembly, now blizzcon, and btw one of the finalist of the current GO4SC2 is a Zerg as well (second might also be Zerg).
And the most depressing is that you can't blame the infestors for that... It's more due to the fact that Zerg players learned how to use their lategame units and repell the timing pushes...

Remember the giant shitstorm about the deathball and ffe some months ago ? Those were good times : "can't sc00t protoss. Colossosisies r retardd. wat can u do wen P ffe ? cant take them 3rd dat greedy is punish at ons." for over 9000 pages of threads.

Like every build ways of circonventing it (or even countering it) will be found. Then Z will say you can't do anything against those ways. But then new maps, build will be used. Then P will... well you get the point.

Yea sure, but what happened during the Zerg QQ time is warpgate time got nerfed and Zergs noticed that now finally so started doing what Ret did to Naniwa.I cant believe people are so oblivious to the fact how this impacted PvZ.
And Btw this is not a whine.

Glad that macro zerg has found it's way to sc2 finally. Ret played really solid zvp there. I don't think naniwa actually has the relevant bw experience to know what he's up against. It was so clear that he had his timings that he thought would work out well in all games:

- Metalopolis, going with a void ray + phoenix -> denied by fast third + queen + spore. Going for an attack off 2 base -> denied by ling counter, then delayed, then flanked and killed when the economy really kicked in for ret.
- Taldarim, trying to warp up zealots supported by void ray + phoenix off a fast expo -> denied by super early 4 hatch start and plentiful of roaches.
- Shakuras, blink stalkers off fast expo -> denied again by early third.

You either have to beat Ret's style by matching him as good as possible in macro and playing catch-up til 200 vs 200 and then take it from there. Or you have to find and exploit weaknesses really early while Ret wants to drone. The second option is rarely a real option when you're up against someone like Ret. He's just too solid. Not attacking would've been naniwas best move.
