Sadly it seems I have to put this up yet again. Any of the following types of posts will be met with immediate bans:

I feel like people are too obsessed with analytical casting.
When HuK is being 6 pooled, I don't care about the ups and downs of this strategy on a map like Tal'Darim Altar, I wanna hear them scream, because that's exactly what people at home do in these situations.
There's a time for being analytical, but there's also time for play by play commentary and the more exciting the games get, the less analytical can casters be.

They've always been released, just give it a week or two

I want to steal the proxy nydus of Moon vs. Naniwa! Gimme the replay!

It's fairly obvious a reason why Day[9] goes into EXCITEMENT HYPE MODE for almost every single engagement/twist/etc... is to make the watching experience exciting for even viewers that has no bloody idea what the heck is going on.
I've known my share of friends who don't know what the hell an SCV stands for, and can still get excited by how Day[9] can throw in that emotion of 'everything counts and this is the highway to hell' kind of casting.
Is there some fake-ness behind what Day[9] is doing? Naturally. Not all high-level play are high-level play as mentioned in his cast.
But you know what? That doesn't matter.
If SC2 is this social club of elites viewers where casters and commentators are not allowed to overblow the excitement and only speak objectively, claiming every move suspect to the highest level of play, and anything lesser than MC-class micro is 'average and doable by any other pros' otherwise, the average joe would be bored.

Was it Space Construction Vehicle? ._.

Yeah, the funny thing about this was they were introducing the players and I was sitting there going "fuck the players, it's a 6 pool!" To be fair they caught on pretty fast, it was just a little funny.

Was it Space Construction Vehicle? ._. Who know what these 3 letter acronyms actually expand out to? Besides the three letters, S-C-V, mean way more to SC2 players and fans than what ever blizzard's formal name is for the thing.
I also second the opinion about casters. It's not a good idea for casters to get extra cerebral at a tournament. They're there for excitement, play-by-play, and a bit of a early-game and mid-game analysis to fill in the gaps of action. If you want a high level dissection of play, go watch day[9]'s strategy breakdown sessions.
There is a bit of inaccuracy in day[9] calling it high level play. Most of it is either a tense situation, a huge blunder, or mind games.

If you are 100% confident you will always defeat a player with a standard opening and are 1 win away from taking $16,000 then you perform a standard opening.
its unfortunate that Day[9] was basically a caricature of himself at DreamHack. he should watch Artosis and his brother and do like them. when Day[9] describes a secret proxy or some hidden tech he hushes his voice as though some golf pro is trying to sink a 50 foot putt to win the US Open. its a bit much. maybe we was just having a bad weekend.
it would be nice if as these events increase in profitability and paid attendance levels they would pay the casters for longer preparation time. What exactly is Tastosis doing that's so different? Especially Artosis has a very similar casting style. He was a bit over excited in certain games but other than that he was like he usually is. I feel like Day9 is almost patronising me at times when he casts at events. I'd much rather he was just himself. I understand he's trying to be professional, but people (or at least I) love him for the person he is on his dailies and I think he has some more room to be himself without losing the professionalism. Tastosis are always 100% themselves — maybe sometimes it's a bit much for some people, but it's genuine and I like it. Note: I know it's totally not Day9's intention, it's just the way it comes across sometimes. I know he's just being professional and I have nothing but respect for him.
I think that's just because he's pitching at people with -bronze understanding as well as masters+. I generally would have thought the high-skill community that is TL would understand he's not patronising us - the simple fact is he's not broadcasting to only the top 10% of Starcraft players. Day9 has a great way of explaining something extremely simple one minute with an astute, in-depth observation the next.

Day9 just needs to chill a little. He has a huge fanbase because he can be witty and insightful once he gets into a certain rhythm. What is hurting his casting as of late is the constant screaming and yelling.
He starts every game with this super annoying "if u want your favourite protoss baller to do well and close this game and blalablalaala give a cheeeeeeer" all the while screaming at the top of his lungs. There are other ways to convey excitement than to yell in my ears.
Also i feel like his analysis was really lacking to the point where d.appollo said most of the interesting stuff while day9 sounded like a third class holiday rep. "And now throw your hands up in the air and say eeeeeeeeeeeeooooooooooo"
Dont get me wrong, i like day9 i just feel like his casting style has really degenerated. Hope he can get back to his former self. A good first step would be to stop screaming all the time.

Day[9] is the man! I'd take his commentary over the Tastosis always.
|
Heretic! Nobody is better than Tastosis, they are an archon after all. A single human being doesn't stand a chance, even if he is of Day9 caliber.

I love day9 style casting. Of course its made for those people who have little understanding of the game, but still. When he is casting, i am always sitting in the edge of my seat, and my adrenalinelevels are rising, just because he does such a good job hyping up matches.

i thought he shouted and screamed a little too much, but tbh i think they complemented each other. Day 9 with the excitement and appollo with the calm. I just dont like screaming, weather it is moletrap or day 9.
oh and btw, Excitement != Screaming.

Actually, it's a viable psychological play. Remember how MC took down WhiteRa in DH Stockholm Invitational with 2proxygate at the final game? WhiteRa could never have thought that MC will go for cheese in a game worth 15k, but he did and won with it.
Moon is a scary opponent just because he isn't afraid to manipulate and exploit the sense of security in people.

Yup. A real competitor. He doesn't only try to beat you inside the game.

Honestly Day9 is the most annoying caster out there. But people are nuthugging him soooo much. He was good at one point before, and I respect his average knowledge of the game, but he is quite annoying now. Everything he does. Everyone should man up and admit it. Apollo did the better job that day, and I agree with the comments above. Its like listening to cheerleaders during sc2. Listen to the way he talks. I had to mute most of the casts that were on his stream.
If you want excitement, go listen to TotalBiscuit. That dude, knows how to use language and his pitch/voice to cast.

Yeah, Moon would probably have won.

Yeah I usually enjoy Day9 but his casting was borderline this weekend in my opinion, not sure what the deal was. One thing that didn't help but is not completely his fault was the sound levels, when Day yelled it was really loud on the stream and he did it a lot. I understand the need to dumb-down the casting since part of the audience at dreamhack may have been there for other games and just passing by for SC2, but that doesn't mean you can't do ANY analysis.
It was a great event, my only other gripe tbh is that ro16 should be double elim. Having MC and Bomber have to eliminate each other in ro8 was disappointing, and they certainly had more time for games on Day 3, there were huge breaks all over the place.
