loving the V so far, great work
however, i must say it unfortunately lacks some top level players, perhaps you can squeeze more out of the sponsor or try to convince some of the higher level pros to commit to an act of charity by doing a couple showmatches for their fans on your show
(now i know you know this, and have tried to do so, but the format is great, so it's sad to not see this going as far as it could go for lack of funds or motivation by potential players; though it does well to promote the second-third tier of pros, so i guess there's that)
e:[no offense to the players btw, there's been some great play and entertaining matches thus far]
|
Well of course I'd love to have IdrA, KiWiKaKi, SeleCT, etc. playing here but sometimes players are busy with other tournaments or just don't enjoy playing in showmatches. =P I do like showcasing players that aren't -always- in the limelight as well.

KawaiiRice ownage because he is on another level than spanishwa. 4-0 easy win imo

gonna be tough for spanishiwa, but i think he can pull it off!

Having just watched all the Spanishiwa games cast by Husky WAARRR SPANISHAWA!!!!!
|
|
Span, you better have like 50 queens at some point during one of the games
|
I think it is gonna be close. I will say this. I am rooting for KR because I like playing Terran. I voted for Spanishiwa because I absolutely love watching him play.
I really don't know who is going to take this.

kawaiirice fiiitinggg!!! looking forward to this event hahhahahha <3333 this might not be as close but it'll certainly be interesting to watch

You nonbelievers. Spanishiwa's got this. xD

My two favorite players in a best of SEVEN? YESSSSS!
Vote has got to go to Kawaii though .

|
Why isn't this on the event calendar. :o
|
100-0 kawaii. Spanish doesn't stand a chance. At all.
|
are we on MLG maps? I don't want close positions
|
I'm suprised so many people voted for Span...
Kawaii is a better player and Spans playstyle isn't secret or anything. This should be an easy 4-1 despite the fact I like span as a player.
|
Spanishiwa is good, but KawaiiRice is a fucking beast, hes gon win.

Hahaha, so many deluded people voting Spanishiwa over Kawaii.

Why isn't the stream online?
|
Yeah, time in the op was 23 minutes ago.
Maybe the day is wrong and it is tomorrow on the 30th?
|
|
The date tag sometimes fucks up, I think. It doesn't update the day when the time zone differences cross over into the next day.
e.g. It's 1900 on the 29th for the US, which would mean 0100 on the 30th for us Europeans. But the day doesn't update so it shows 0100 on the 29th for us (which was 37 minutes ago, and which is why there's a couple confused Europeans in the stream chat right now. :lol)
|

Updated op with prizes for the viewers! =o Can't wait to cast this. =)

I'm really excited to see where Spanishiwa fits in in future ESPORTS events because his raw creativity even puts CatZ to shame.

That was such a weird back and forth there. I don't think I've ever seen anyone else backup Broodlords with Queens. Spanishiwa completely wore KR down with that strat too..

Any way we could get ingame sound?

Queens are good with late game 200/200 zerg armies. It is really cost-effective to transfuse ultras and broodlords, and it even often pays off to transfuse corruptors. Plus if they mix in a few vikings to counter your broodlords, overlords (for drops) and/or overseer for detection (if T goes ghost), then they are quite effective as anti-air. Otherwise vikings can be extremely detrimental.
EDIT: Plus often you have mineral surplus you can use on queens.
|
|
wow Spanishiwa just owned Kawaiirice with nydus...like totally destroyed him O_O
|
Kawaiirice is going to need to do some earlier pressure if he doesn't want to keep getting rofflestomped. He let Spanishiwa drone and expand for like 8 minutes before moving out.
|
Oh god, Spanishiwa dominated that one... I at least thought KawaiiRice would've been able to do more damage with his push and maybe go for a base trade.
That's an especially good map for Nydus, btw... since the main bases are so large. Wasn't there another game recently where this happened? The protoss, I believe, ended up hunkering down at his natural and sacking his main, but the zerg eventually took it. I wanna say it was Zenio but I'm not sure...
|
God, I just love Spanishiwa

This, plus queens are <only> 2 supply, which makes for a stronger overall 200/200 compared to other ranged zerg units like roaches or hydras. I actually think the only times I see a zerg army win in a late game straight up fight is when there are ultralisks or brood lords backed up by mass infuses.

Haha, Spanishiwa playing the meta game to it's fullest. Poor Kawaii.
|
Kawaiii noooooo don't attack

Nice play there by KR. 1-2 in favor of Spanishiwa.

Spanishiwa is a great zerg and i love his builds. And i think that he will only get better. But to me it seems like he is not that experienced and a little to eager. I am sure he will be one of the best zergs of America one day. When you watch idra u know that you are watching an experienced player,
Hopefully spanishiwa one day will get the same experience...
Just my 5 cents...

I really like this commentary . First time hearing Josh-"who" and I'm nicely impressed.

"lmao how do you deal with this gg"
3-2 Spani

"lmoa how do u deal with this" - KR

Wouldn't ghosts absolutely destroy that? Queen emped. And snipe is really good vs broodlords, especially when they are in low counts
|
that looked difficult to deal with indeed. But
gsl spoiler
+ Show Spoiler +mvp handled it well when min kinda did a similar thing

This series is so good. Game 5 was sick.
Honestly, the biggest part of why I'm a fan of Spanishiwa (and his build) is because it just produces highly entertaining games at an alarming rate. :lol
Well played by KawaiiRice as well. Although I do have to chuckle a bit at the irony of a Terran asking how to deal with a slow "siege push" from Zerg Broodlords + Queens and Corruptors. haha
|
Queens and Broodlords. Its amazing how fast Spanishiwa tech to broodlords. They were morphing around 12min mark...O.O
Gogo Spanshwa!! ^^

Yes I think in 2 SotG ago Idra said he liked Spanishiwa style and he played it months ago (or a variation) vs TLO and did some mad emp snipe play and he hasn't touched that type of play since. (but it was a variation so take it with a grain of salt.)

If spanishiwa wins this, but him against someone who criticizes his build in the BO-thread. Like darkforce or morrow.

Wow. Kawaii's a fighter. I thought he had lost that game

Omg, dat nydus transfuse! Then hop back in! xDD

So has Spanishiwa been told of late how sexy his play style is?

sick sick games by Spanish

I'm astonished by the result. Gratz to the winner.
This whole showmatch thing is pretty awesome.
|
Gratz to Spanishiwa. Listening to the interview now and he seems like a great guy and really humble. Will keep cheering for him forever just cuz he seems like a cool dude...
|
Was only able to watch the first two but spanishwa is easily becoming one of my favorites to watch.
|
GosiTerran would be really cool. He is quite good but, as far as I know, the only tournament he has played in is the FXO invitational. Not only that, but he lost to Spanishiwa in an amazing Shakuras Plateau game casted by Husky recently, so there may be a slight grudge between them.
|
I wanna see Spanishiwa vs some badass pros, just to see what he is capable of.
Not saying KawaiiRice isnt badass, but you know .p

Updated the OP with results, working on the VODs now. =)

Kawai TvZ is pretty sick, i didn't thought spanishiwa could do this, I'm impressed more and more by this guy Gratz.

I'm surprised none of spanishiwas opponents actually counter his build. They must have heard of it by now. The counters are pretty laid out in the BO-threat by players like darkforce.

It's not just a "build", he actually has quite a few variant builds, it's the whole mindset or strategy that is currently hard for most people to play against unless they:
a) are mechanically superior player by far (which is how scfou iirc beat Spanishiwa in FXO) b) Have played enough games against that style of Zerg to intuitively understand the concept.
Then there's the whole matter of dissecting his play and coming up with exact and properly timed strategies instead of going into games with just some vague counter ideas. It's weird that so many people mentioned Kawaii's beastly TvZ when it was always obvious that you can't bring your normal TvZ logic against this particular opponent.
Anyway, it'd be interesting to see a ZvZ next. =)
|
Damn Spanishiwa looks solid, but not unbeatable. There are definitely some timings to exploit as Terran.

Yeah I agree, his style of play is almost "random" in nature so his opponents are off balance and are not sure how to play him unlike players who go standard such as Idra.
Its good to see Zerg players trying new strats and pushing the game to new levels.

The HD VODs are online now! You can start HERE with Game 1! The rest are added as video responses so you can go from one game to the next easily. =)

Hey man don't hate. It's not like I went no gas every game -_-. I mix it up, depending on what i see.. sometimes I put fake gas, sometimes I do roach timings, or maybe baneling all in idk. Easy to say 'just counter' but scouting is difficult when your opponent is intentionally being tricky.

You're revolutionary and awesome Spanishiwa. Hope you go in bigger money tournaments to compete.

Get artosis. That would be epic

Wow, fantastic games. Spanishiwa has been my favorite player to watch for a while now, but damn, these games were AWESOME.

Easy to say 'just counter' but scouting is difficult when your opponent is intentionally being tricky. I'm sorry, I'm actually hating. But I've been following the discussion by darkforce & co in the Ice fisher thread and I'm dying to actually see their "theorycraft" in action. There is a lot of proposed counters. But no real substance, like replays or vods of them working. That's why I felt so frustrated when I heard miniguns comment after his loss:
air = not possible, he gets so many queens, would be auto lose expand and go into mid game = he is ahead because of his opening, he has 2x the amount of harvesters as you have dts = not really viable if he prepares, which he should
so that leaves you with
4 gate
4 gate
6 gate
and 4 gate
Which off course the ice fisher is great against. GAh.
It would be very good for the "ratings" (*wink* *wink* "the V"-admins) to match you up with say... darkforce.
I've learned a lot from your build btw, I try to delay my gas and ling speed as much I feel comfortable with in most of my games now. To be able to use both the first injects to drones does wonders for getting drone saturation.

Spanishwa causing a whole lot of people to eat their words :D
gj man, keep up the good work! Have to say that your run on the V has been very entertaining to watch so far.

Maybe Darkforce was wrong...or his counter is hard to pull off. Either way I think that Spanish's build forces cheesy play, and people don't like to cheese at the pro level (not saying it doesn't happen, but unless it's combatEX they aren't going to prefer it.)

This was certainly entertaining, I recommend watching the VOD's.

i love watching your creative playstyle spanishiwa! i think its awesome how you use queens/infestors/burrow/nidus to maximize the cost effectiveness of your units. i also love how you methodically slow push terrans with broodlord/corruptor/queen/infestor its a refreshing change from watching the same old muta/ling/bling bum rush the tank line.

I just wanted to say that I love this showmatch series.
I run the tournament roundup newsposts here on TL and these are by far the easiest showmatches to follow and track results. It's also the most exciting. =P Keep it up.

I've also followed it and I think, even though I respect darkforce and aknowledge him as a awesome player, there is some simplified thoughtprocess and bad deduction going on. I mean it's pretty damn obvious that Spanishiwa is actually good at his builds and by no means should that mean that any top player should emulate the exact style just within say like ten games (lol) and conclude that it's "somewhat ok, but this and that is lacking" etc. Ofc there are shortcomings to any build, but that's the point, there are obviously shortcomings to fast lingspeed / fast roach builds aswell. I think that every player needs to just adjust acording to how the feel like playing and what is most comfortable since you will always play your best in your own element.
I know this sounds very vague, but I just feel that the counter arguments in that thread, even coming from top players, are pretty damn poor and based on the asumption that they are themselves executing everything perfectly - I just dont feel that, it's a argument that relies on "trust me on this one". Sadly nothing is unanimous, so it fails right away, atleast in my book.
People should stop doubting that Spanishiwa is a good player. Sure the last three opponents here are not the best players in the world, but they are damn good players and it all have looked very convincinly.
Go Spanishiwa! <3

If Spanishwa ups his mechanics, and gain a little bit more of experience, he will be a very good zerg in no time.

Spanishiwa vs. IdrA next, IMO.

Not only was this series great, it also hooked me up with some great prizes. Watching the V every week from now on >>

I've been watching his stream for some time now, and let me tell you his mechanics are already in the stratosphere. I doubt he can improve on them more. I agree though, he needs to get more games under his belt because he has a tendency to get rattled / excited IMO.
Good games, KR and Spanish! And mad props to Josh for putting up this series!

Spanishiwa is amazing vsT and vsP, if he works on his vsZ match up he will be unstoppable .
