This is group stage play, barring big upsets/controversial games/calls etc, there won't be a 600 page discussion about eagles. MC wasn't the heavy favorite coming into this season of GSL to win it like previous. Combined with different meta, possible travel fatigue and other elements, not many expected him to get his 3rd GSL win (as easy as some may make it out to be). So instead of thousands of people commenting "man, i bet MC is eating his words right now" and risk getting temp banned for not adding anything to the topic, people just shut up?
I don't know really, but group stage play just isn't interesting to me. I won't lose any sleep ever to watch group stage unless it's a non korean I like is playing against a korean I like (say maybe Huk Vs Boxer kind of match) TSL still had 50k viewers on those days, so the comments people are leaving don't have anything to do with it's "aura". And what do you want for NASL? 200 page threads for each of the 5 days it's on a week? What about the other threads?

MC played bad, he's in the up-down, and has another shot at redemption later, that's all. does every LR thread have to turn into fanboys mudslinging each other?

Dood The GSL is awesome this season. The way they introduce the players is making me laugh.
Good on ya GSL

so on the vods i've noticed that tastosis has been getting a lot less (read: practically none) face time. is this the case for the live stream as well or have they just shortened the vods?
any explanation as to why this is the casE?

any explanation as to why this is the casE? I think it's because they usually do the setup to the players - but gom wanted to do some epic high production for the opening players for each group...it's unfortunate since the only face time you get is between matches (after the first two). Code A is still being done normally though.

Oh my god, my liquibets are completly screwed.

any explanation as to why this is the casE? As you and the poster above me, I noticed that too (that even made me panic a little when we didn't get to see tastosis before the first game :p) They're using a new way of introducing the players, and the first 2 matches of group stage, that's why for those two first games we have no tastosis banter before the match, which is sad. (but the prematch intros are nice)
About MC, like a lot, I'm not a hater neither a fan, but I'm glad he lost. I'm not sure why. Perhaps it's because now that he his gone, anyone can win. I don't mind him cheesing WR, if you can't defend cheese, it's your own play that need fixing. I don't mind him being cocky, even if he pushes cockiness too far sometimes. Today, cheesing and humiliating his own coach on TV was too much I think. And this "strategy" of making a group with 3 ogs was, as we now know, stupid.

Great job with the thread but is it possible to have polls for recommended games in the future like before? I kind of only want to watch highly recommended games due to limited bandwidth and time.

Note that oGs didn't plan to have 3 players in one group. TheWind picked Polt (Prime) and Polt picked Supernova.

that was pretty sick from polt. he beat mc with mc's own style. powerful timing attack with good micro. his dual-pronged attack to snipe the nexus was brilliant too

Note that oGs didn't plan to have 3 players in one group. TheWind picked Polt (Prime) and Polt picked Supernova. Yep I know. But when the first person of the group chooses someone of his own team, a very (and obvious) good strategy is for the 3rd person to take another person from the same team as 4th place. This will mess training, team spirit, force a team kill, only "good" things. (well, perhaps thewind asked to be there so he can be out of code S and concentrate on coaching, but it's not very plausible, as he can just do this while staying in code S for as long as he can, with a GOM salary in bonus) I just don't get this group strategy from ogs.

Question: whats up with the observing again? it feels like the person doing it is someone new or the person that was doing it before just unlearned everything he knew about the subject.
Plenty of action missed with both Artosis and Tasteless insisting on him showing this or that location.
Personally i think its a new person and to avoid having a million trolls bashing the guy they just kept it a secret hoping people wouldnt stress much about it. If its indeed someone new then best of luck and stay sharp so the observing can be improved soon. Peace.

I'm very disappointed that MC lost but he did play very greedy trying to expand super quick. I just hope he doesn't fall down to code A.
|
Well at least I got grp 2 right. Was completely wrong on both in grp 1 .
I missed these games but I imagine MC wasn't very happy. He probably killed a living thing behind stage.
|
I guess if MC thought that if he had pulled that off, he'd be able to show off how good his defensive abilities are. He's already known for his offense. People are easily impressed by risky economic builds (AdelScott vs MVP) supported by epic feats of defense. Even after watching those matches, he still has the best defense/crisis management out of all the Protoss I've seen. But if he doesn't have enough units and the build is countered that hard, there's no way he can defend. It is a good sign to see him trying to test his defensive limits.

He lost today because he was too greedy, if he just played like regular, no way Polt could have had a chance. I love this sort of stuff, it's like the most vague and inspecific hindsight ever. I mean sure if he had done something that would make him win instead of the thing that made him lose he'd win, but you know, he didn't. This idea that every player should play some bizarre predetermined build that makes sure everything is optimally fair to work out the true best player is absurd, it always has and always will be the person who adapts to situations the best, not by over-reaching like MC did today or under reaching like some of MC's opponents when MC goes for relatively risky high early economy builds. If someone knows how to exploit MC and MC's reactions to his exploits, then they're going to beat MC regardless of how they do against other players. Very well said.

Watched the group A games, and I have to wonder what MC was thinking. I can't exactly call it "risky" play because I am sure MC knows better. It's more like overconfidence, underestimation of opponent, or a play based on assumption outside the real-world, etc. The first map, Xelnaga Fortress looks to have shorter rush distance than the XC, and there is no way to hide that Nexus at the very beginning of the game. Nexus-first or Gateway-Nexus can be a good build on a large 4 player map such as Taldarim, Terminus, or even Shakuras. But no way on that map unless you are 100% sure that the T is fast expanding (by which I mean you physically scouted near-completed command center) It's kind of like MC was playing some bronze leaguer in his dream or something. I wouldn't call that a 'risky' build but rather an absurd build.
As for Supernova - TheWind match, this conversation among fellow Liquidians summed it up so well.

Lol exactly what I was thinking, Supernova sucked so much thewind couldn't really fake it. lol. Weird images in my head. oh god i almost died laughing
