Please remember that these threads are for talking about the games. People who cannot watch rely on these threads for information. If the thread is diluted with balance/caster/lack of snacks whine, it makes it useless for those who want to read it.
Thanks a lot! |

It's quite sad though, I miss dominant eras like in Broodwar where players like oov or savior were just destroying back to back tournaments. I'm afraid we'll never see eras like that in SC2 for the simple fact that the game is much more fragile and less dependant on mechanics Which really intensifies the term "having a good day" to the extreme as it seems to be the only real differential at the very top. Then again, it's hard to judge the professional metagame after only a handful of GSLs. MVP's loss was very much due to July getting extremely lucky with timings. Nestea lost to cheese. Fruitdealer lost to an innovative style from an eventual finalist. MC lost to a radically new mech build. The game is more fragile and unstable, but probably because the metagame hasn't yet settled even after half a year.
However, I think it's customary for champions to rarely two of the same tournament twice. Nada and Julyzerg acquired their OSL victories over a span of time, not just in a sudden burst of invincibility. Flash and Jaedong get knocked out of OSL and MSL all the time nowadays, yet they still are considered the "best" players in their respective races. Maybe after a full year of GSLs can we truly see dominance from a few players.

lol none of the games today were worth buying a premium package for except for Byun vs Zenio
|
Lol, can't believe I missed Zenio v Byun. I've already watched the first group (IMMvp, oGsMC, oGsHyperdub and ST_July) and that was like 2 hours? Totally forgot about Byun though. Oh wells Seems like I have the buy a premium ticket again, like last season where when I heard about Jinro beating MC and I missed it XD

Game 1: MVP attacks July, cannot kill him, but kills like 20 drones with blue hellions.
July harasses MVP's barracks with muta, killed a tech/reactor, and maybe 10 marines or so.
MVP starts remaking army, July goes into all-in mode and makes a bunch of zergling/banelings.
Attacks mvp, mvp only has a single bunker for defense against maybe 20-30 speed banes and muta. Has to pull every scv, loses all of them basically.
Game 2 :
July does expo -> baneling bust
Makes like 10 banelings outside MVP's main. MVP lifts both barracks and started making ad-ons. Banelings 1-shot ad-ons, kill the bunker behind the wall in. Only like 4-7 marines were made since he was making a command center. July kills all SCV with zerglings.
Nether player really super-outplayed each other in either game, MVP just made one bad mistake each game and July hit him with something that owns that bad mistake.

Damn, can't believe Mvp is out. But this opens the road to victory for everyone else. Mvp was by far the player everyone feared most. I think almost anyone could take this gsl now. My money is on Nestea. Wishing for Slayersboxer to get far though.

I dunno man. Having the same people win over and over again is pretty boring. I mean, why is it fun when it ends up being "well looks like player X wins again..."?
Because when they DO lose, its sooo much more impactful, since nobody actually expects it. But now its like "oh well, better luck next time I guess, cant expect to do well twice in a row".
And you also grow attached to the players, but when they're winning GSL one month, then a few weeks later get knocked out first round, not so much.
Its hard to build a story and become a fan of something as inconsistent as the SC2 scene.

Wow Mvp is actually out of the tournament, who would have thought?
On a different note it was really nice to see a well...you know an actual crowd at the GSL.
|
the Zenio vs Byun match was the way I hoped Jinro vs Idra matches would be so at least my hype got somewhat fulfilled
|
Whoa MVP lost and Clide made it past first round, time to buy a ticket.

Can anyone explain the group stage to me? It seems like July had a much harder time not getting the "free" game against Hyperdub and MC v MVP didn't happen.
And in the case of a tie why wouldn't they just give the player who won the first game the win instead of making them rematch.
Just seems odd....
|
MC had already won two games in a row. Each other player had a loss. Therefore he wins. Similarly Hyperdub already lost two games in a row and cannot win, therefore he loses.
July and MVP both had one win and one loss, they play each other again to determine who gets second and who gets third.
If two players have two wins and two players have two losses, the top two will play each other to determine seeding in the ro16 and the bottom will play each other to determine seeding in the up and down matches.

MVP look so gangsta in this pic lol

wtf, I did not expect this for first series O_O

If two players have two wins and two players have two losses, the top two will play each other to determine seeding in the ro16 and the bottom will play each other to determine seeding in the up and down matches. It's to prevent teammates from dropping games to "save" their friends from elimination. With this system each player has a stake in every march. If someone drops a game, his chances for advancing will theoretically decrease at least as much as his friends chances increase.

Wait so is MVP eliminated?
|
Sorry for posting this here, but I don't know where else it'd be appropriate. I've bought a premium ticket to watch the VODs - but can I share this ticket with my friend without getting problems?
