Josh here from Digital Ops. I've been checking the forums periodically. Here are a few quick comments from my end. 1) My apologies on how slowly things took off, Ops should have been much more prepared for the BYOC crowd. We made some assumptions (never a good thing) about how many people to expect, which would have been easily resolved had we simply asked people to specify BYOC or Ops PC in advance! We'll make sure that doesn't happen again. 2) Digital Ops not scheduling two events in such close proximity (We had an awesome electronics workshop from 1pm to 3pm) would have significantly helped. You guys were really awesome, and from what I saw, extremely patient. I was there from ~10am to 7pm, Bryant took over from then until midnight. He had nothing but good things to say about the rest of the evening. English (DozeNutz) took the pleasure of manning things from open till close, with Drew & Co. tirelessly updating the brackets. Again, we learned a lot running this, and really appreciate the patience you guys showed (Especially Kimber, HeiFai, and OnPHYRE). I'm a huge fan of feedback, please don't hesitate to comment back, or email me at: josh@digitalops.com Look forward to seeing how the final matches go! Thanks, - Josh Williams

First, I had so much fun. Excellent crowd and some awesome talent showed up. I thank you for the patience you showed at the tourney, I know it got off to a slow start. There were problems with getting the right people on PC's when they were needed to,and we spent most of the time playing catchup to the winners bracket, therefore many players were sitting idle. To resolve this issue we had with the losers bracket, I think a good solution would be to have the first two rounds of the losers bracket to be a bo1 game. This would save us from playing 15-30 extra games, and get the losers bracket moving forward with the pace of the winners bracket. As for the streams, they were excellent, we even picked up KawaiiRice as a caster for Bad's games later in the evening. I know some of the casters lost their patience, and I apologize. I hope I did not discourage them from future casts of future events. Idle in AnnArborOpen chat channel for the rest of the event! I will also update and let everyone know via this thread and PM about the next tourney once the details are ironed out. Again, thanks for playing!

The fact that every round was a Bo3 is what killed you all in the time department. Make some rounds Bo1 during the first few rounds, or don't make the tournament double elimination. I think it was really unnecessary to do both double elimination and Bo3. no it was the roughly 2 hour starting late. due to the workshop and underestimation on setup time. coupled with the fact that a guy left in the losers bracket and came back an hour and half later or something like that and no one noticed, and that side of the bracket fell way behind. if we were setup and ready to go at 3. started playing with everyone at the same time instead of 3 to 4 matches a the same time, and everyone kept getting their future matches in with minimal wait time inbetween, we would have been perfectly fine on time and the finals would have been done around 11 pm. though starting before 3 may be a good idea for the next event that way if there are issues we have extra time to play around with. though the byoc section couldnt get setup until 3:15 and then alot of clean up had to have been done as well. With the scheduling conflict aside, there were 2 long tables that could have been used, the 1 infront of the TV if the byoc section was rearranged slightly and the 1 doze was sitting at with people on the other side if it was moved away from the wall abit. that could help with the byoc size issue a bit in the future. as that would allow a few more people. tbh i expected a long delay due to it being one of the first events, but as long as everyone learns what happened and learns the changes that need to be made. The format is fine and will run smoother next event guaranteed. the bo3 and double elimination assures people that they wont get lamed out round 1 by the strongest player or lose a set entirely to bad luck, as matchups like pvp get really awkward. they just need to have priority and be playing as soon as possible which was one of the flaws of the loser bracket. half of the loser bracket was perfectly fine and caught up, the other half was massively delayed, which caused alot of our issues.

Additional staff: Ops will provide at least one more staff member to help throughout the event. We'll also make sure they're more aware of rules / settings in advance. This will help people setup quicker, get results reported faster, allowing for every match to start sooner. Dedicate: We were open for 'normal' gaming business during this event. Next time we'll close the store for the event. That will free up staff and additional PCs. Brackets: Having more staff, and paying more attention to the brackets should help make sure they're more in sync and one doesn't lag behind the other. Thanks for the feedback guys, all of it is helpful! - Josh W.
