WHOA, seriously?
hopefully all UM CSL signs up . it's so close to campus...
I'm not 100% sure if I can go yet, I may have work...
when is the deadline to sign up by?
|
ill be there, probably will not be able to compete but will notify if able. But at least to spectate. :D
|
Why are all these tourneys single elim t.t
I understand online tourneys, but lans need to be double elim to at least give people the motivation to drive to them ;D

yea, I agree, unless there is some type of time constraint that won't allow double elim
It's unfortunate if two really good people get matched up in the first round, and one has to get eliminated. Makes it risky for people that want to come and drive here from out of town :o

We are working on a way to keep the brackets competitive. We will take the top 4 from the Rochester Hills Tournament, and they will waive past the first round, or something like that.
*If there are any creative but logical (and fair) way to set up the brackets, any suggestions are welcome. There is a time limit of midnight-ish. 13 pc's to play on can do double elim if we utilize 8 for the tournament. 2v2's have been suggested more than once, so this can happen AFTER the 1v1 is over, and if there is time left.
|

Feb 25th at midnight, but im sure if there is room at the start of tourney and you show up before 3 you would be put on the bracket. Bring as many people as you wish, to enter or watch.
|
I plan on hitting platinum 1v1 by then, and if I do, I'll be there. I simply don't think high gold skill is worth attempting against diamond, much less masters. That's the only reason I didn't compete in Rochester this past weekend. If I do come, I plan on bringing my own PC.
Weioo.533
My problem is my habits. There's still a game once in a while where I'm macroing and microing so hard, I won't even notice I've been supply blocked for 3+ minutes. Mistakes like this guarantee a failure in such a tourney. If I could hash out my major problems like this, I'd be golden....er, diamond!
Edit: Well, it looks like I'm being forced to compete, lol. I guess I gotta try and work my problems out over the next month.

Id like to point out that this event is on the same day as SLP's sc2 tourney, personally I think it'd be a good idea to rescedual since SLP looks like its going to be much bigger, seeing as how iCCup.Diamond is going to be there again.

Last I heard there is no SLP tourney, just a LAN...?
|
Hey, I sent out the link to this page to everyone on the Michigan starcraft team
Personally idk if I can make it, I'll actually have to practice 1v1 for once =P
|
sounds cool, not positive if i can make it yet though i'll have to find out
|
cmon diamond sign up, you know you want to. Also we are going to need live casters. I nominate you, so you have to go. We even got webcams on the casters and a table and stuff so it looks like GSL (sorta).
|
I haven't heard anything about the next SLP at all. Has anyone even received an email?
Edit: Well I checked out SLP's website and it looks like the competitive aspect of the LAN is going to be more or less removed, at less Sc2-wise. They are planning on having a tournament, but it's going to be a FFA on a huge map.
It's up to them as to what they want their event to be about, but I think it will detract from interest.

Full tournament information will be released in the coming weeks, but here is what we are planning for sure a UT2004 Endurance Tournament, SC2 large FFA tournament of some kind, Goldeneye 64 and etc. Stay tuned for more info in the next few weeks. Contrary to the past most tournaments will not carry large prizes for winners but will be more structures to be 'for fun'. However prizes may be available for some tournaments!
Actually it looks like SLP's SC2 tourney is going to be small and stupid, so yeah

fyi its better to sign up, you get playtime on the pc's as part of the package, along with tourney play. There will be players of all skill levels present at this tournament so don't let that dissuade you.

I think double elimination is the way to go, not only so the lower tier players feel they got their moneys worth, but also for the higher tier players. It's impossible to seed these types of LANs perfectly, and a potential 2nd/3rd place finisher might run into the future champion in round 2/3 and be eliminated on the spot without a shot of getting into the money. Double elimination goes a long way towards preventing this, and usually turns out a more fair scenario than seeding itself.

Thank you everyone who signed up. As for now, the Ann Arbor Open is at full capacity for tournament players. There is still room for spectators.
As for anyone who missed out on registration, you can get in on a waiting list. The waiting list is for players who wish to play in the event that a player slot opens up in the Ann Arbor Open.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that everyone that registered can make it, but in reality that is not always the case. Please post or PM me if you find out that you cannot make it, even if it is 5 minutes before the event. (but as soon as you find out please)

As slots open up I will take new registration on a first come first serve basis. When it comes down to tournament time and if some players are missing, the first person to arrive at Digital Ops will get in on the tournament. Keep checking the thread to see who is or is not on the tournament list, it gets updated frequently.

Does this mean that if there are any players that don't advance the waitlist but still miss the tourney will open up a slot for the first person that gets to the tourney that is also on the waitlist? Or is it always top priority how you've listed?

What I really meant was the waiting list is in an order of who registered first. So therefore who is first on the list, and also there at Ops (obviously) gets to take their place.

Thinking of doing a carpool to DigitalOps. Post on here if you are down for that.
We can meet at the carpool parking lot on 12 Mile and Beck, right off of 96. You will have to stay for the entire tournament though, I'll probably be the last to leave, so keep that in mind.

Fannnntastic. And yes im pretty psyched, been doing quite a bit of ladder/practice lately and feel quite confident. Should be a good tournament and hopefully see some good competition on gameday!

FYI, you will have to park in the parking structure across the street unless you can get a spot on the road. It is 50cents per half hour. The parking deck is on Liberty and Maynard. Everyone plan ahead accordingly.
So far justinsroy and I can carpool. Justin is in the Rochester area, and I am in the Novi area. It will be cheaper to get there by carpool for sure, so send us PM's to get onboard.

the tourney is on the 26th, probably just an error on their part. I'll let them know.

So far justinsroy and I can carpool. Justin is in the Rochester area, and I am in the Novi area. It will be cheaper to get there by carpool for sure, so send us PM's to get onboard.
is there a max fee on the garage and does the garage close? is parking on the road unlimited time?
also anyone coming from the western side of the state interested in a car pool? im battle creek.

So is anyone up for a pre-tourney training binge? let me know just PM me :D

I think the max fee is $10, but they don't charge parking on Sunday, so I think they charge $5 cash after a certain time in the day on Sat. (don't quote me on this) As for the street parking, I have seen meters but I think its free only on Sundays. I'd stay away from these because they are expensive long term and you can get towed if you forget.

Unfortunatly i will not be able to attend. I have my first day of work on that day I will be watching the stream when i get off. Good luck to everybody.

Parking meters don't run on weekends in Ann Arbor. Makes things a lot easier (if you can find a spot....which itself is never easy).

So I know this is being streamed, but will it be recorded in VODs? I would love to go back listen to these later if possible!

I'm not going to be at this tournament, so remove me from the list. Sorry about the cancellation >.< But I figure the size of the waitlist means it is fine.

Diamond isn't going to make it to this one...
So Method.917 and Bad.469, COME ON DOWN!!!

Wow I had no idea E-Rev.tv would be casting. rS.Legion (Revolution Sports and Team Legion, though most people just know the rS part) is the team I am on, so I know those guys ^^.

This bracket is not finalized, but this is where you can find the online bracket.
I will re-shuffle the players before the tournament starts so you do not know who you will be playing against until just before the tourney start.
Any questions or concerns let me know.

If you reshuffle and i get Lizzuma first round im gonna kill you sir.
|
on the topic of pictures, what will the setup look like for the people bringing their own PC? that place looks awfully freaking small lol. now i know what limited space means =/
i can say this i need a floor spot probably, i wont be able to stand being on a lofty thing. probably get sea sick really easily =/
also did anyone grab confirmation about parking meters not running on the entire weekend? i love arriving fashionably early. im assuming 1pm is when the place opens? or will doors be open before then?
|
I plan on bringing my own computer, so I wish to know more about the setups for those who are bringing their own computer. Thanks.
|
WAIT WAIT CIRCUMSTANCES CHANGED what are the chances I could get my spot back?? >.<
|
BYOC setup
There is more room at Ops than in the pics. I didn't get the viewing area, and the BYOC setup area in the pics. There will be plenty of space to set up your PC. There will be room for about I'd say 6-8 BYOC's, maybe more. Please bring your power strips, and everything that you plug into it that you need to get your PC running. They have lan cables for us to use, but bring yours just in case.
Parking
As SgtSquiglz pointed out, the meters do not run on the weekends, but its going to be hard to find a spot. I suggest you guys park in the Maynard Parking Deck, it is the closest to Ops.
Here are some directions. Most will be coming from US-23 so I made a map for that, and one for the parking deck.

Me too xD glad it's being reshuffled lol. There would be 2 CSL team kills in the first 3 rounds with this bracket!

How far would I have to carry my computer if I don't get an awesome parking spot? That sounds like that will be difficult if I don't have a good parking spot.

I am so pumped for this! I can't wait to see an event live. First LAN 0_0!!!!
|
yea its my first LAN too to bad i wont be a very strong competitor only being in the silver league although i play diamonds in ladder
|
Is there a list of people BYOCing? Because it would suck to drag my setup there to not have any room.
|
|
There is going to be room to accommodate everyone. Make sure you get there early to set up your PC in time for the 3 o'clock start.
|
whats the map pool gonna be? just curious with the new updates today. Would not like to use the new maps personally.
And zickoray, thats okay. I'm gonna be in it and i'm only gold. So you wont be the only one.

I can help you guys bring your stuff in. Just stop by inside first, and I can come help you carry your stuff. You can always just bring your KB and mouse, and use their PC's... but you will not be able to chill on one the whole time.

hey im really sorry but some last mim things came up and i can be there really sorry about that :/
|
due to the inability to play recently, I don't think I would be competitive in the event. I think it would be wise to give my spot to someone on the wait list, though I do plan to come watch

yeah it took a bit long.
just for future events we need to make sure we all start on time and the losers bracket is playing their matches as fast as possible with priority over everything else and much more time constraints then the winner bracket.

Hey hey,
Josh here from Digital Ops. I've been checking the forums periodically. Here are a few quick comments from my end.
1) My apologies on how slowly things took off, Ops should have been much more prepared for the BYOC crowd. We made some assumptions (never a good thing) about how many people to expect, which would have been easily resolved had we simply asked people to specify BYOC or Ops PC in advance! We'll make sure that doesn't happen again.
2) Digital Ops not scheduling two events in such close proximity (We had an awesome electronics workshop from 1pm to 3pm) would have significantly helped.
You guys were really awesome, and from what I saw, extremely patient. I was there from ~10am to 7pm, Bryant took over from then until midnight. He had nothing but good things to say about the rest of the evening. English (DozeNutz) took the pleasure of manning things from open till close, with Drew & Co. tirelessly updating the brackets.
Again, we learned a lot running this, and really appreciate the patience you guys showed (Especially Kimber, HeiFai, and OnPHYRE).
I'm a huge fan of feedback, please don't hesitate to comment back, or email me at: josh@digitalops.com
Look forward to seeing how the final matches go!
Thanks,
- Josh Williams

GGs everyone. In terms of the event, I had a blast. Yea it ran a bit long but all in all it had great people and great turn out. This was my first LAN tournament ever, and I def plan on doing more.
|
This tournament would have been quite fine if some of the rounds were Bo1 series. The fact that every round was a Bo3 is what killed you all in the time department. Make some rounds Bo1 during the first few rounds, or don't make the tournament double elimination. I think it was really unnecessary to do both double elimination and Bo3.
|
GG's for sure to everyone that was at the event.
First, I had so much fun. Excellent crowd and some awesome talent showed up. I thank you for the patience you showed at the tourney, I know it got off to a slow start. There were problems with getting the right people on PC's when they were needed to,and we spent most of the time playing catchup to the winners bracket, therefore many players were sitting idle.
To resolve this issue we had with the losers bracket, I think a good solution would be to have the first two rounds of the losers bracket to be a bo1 game. This would save us from playing 15-30 extra games, and get the losers bracket moving forward with the pace of the winners bracket.
As for the streams, they were excellent, we even picked up KawaiiRice as a caster for Bad's games later in the evening. I know some of the casters lost their patience, and I apologize. I hope I did not discourage them from future casts of future events.
Idle in AnnArborOpen chat channel for the rest of the event!
I will also update and let everyone know via this thread and PM about the next tourney once the details are ironed out.
Again, thanks for playing!

no it was the roughly 2 hour starting late. due to the workshop and underestimation on setup time. coupled with the fact that a guy left in the losers bracket and came back an hour and half later or something like that and no one noticed, and that side of the bracket fell way behind.
if we were setup and ready to go at 3. started playing with everyone at the same time instead of 3 to 4 matches a the same time, and everyone kept getting their future matches in with minimal wait time inbetween, we would have been perfectly fine on time and the finals would have been done around 11 pm.
though starting before 3 may be a good idea for the next event that way if there are issues we have extra time to play around with. though the byoc section couldnt get setup until 3:15 and then alot of clean up had to have been done as well. With the scheduling conflict aside, there were 2 long tables that could have been used, the 1 infront of the TV if the byoc section was rearranged slightly and the 1 doze was sitting at with people on the other side if it was moved away from the wall abit. that could help with the byoc size issue a bit in the future. as that would allow a few more people.
tbh i expected a long delay due to it being one of the first events, but as long as everyone learns what happened and learns the changes that need to be made. The format is fine and will run smoother next event guaranteed. the bo3 and double elimination assures people that they wont get lamed out round 1 by the strongest player or lose a set entirely to bad luck, as matchups like pvp get really awkward. they just need to have priority and be playing as soon as possible which was one of the flaws of the loser bracket. half of the loser bracket was perfectly fine and caught up, the other half was massively delayed, which caused alot of our issues.

Nobody yet, rest of the matches are to be played online. I have to play NrGMalice. Winner between us is to play Lizzuma for finals.
|
BYOC Setup: Ops is planning on a remodel that will allow for a better BYOC area, as well as more audible & functional spectator / watching area. We'll also make sure not to double schedule another event the same day!
Additional staff: Ops will provide at least one more staff member to help throughout the event. We'll also make sure they're more aware of rules / settings in advance. This will help people setup quicker, get results reported faster, allowing for every match to start sooner.
Dedicate: We were open for 'normal' gaming business during this event. Next time we'll close the store for the event. That will free up staff and additional PCs.
Brackets: Having more staff, and paying more attention to the brackets should help make sure they're more in sync and one doesn't lag behind the other.
Thanks for the feedback guys, all of it is helpful!
