for example, if in a group 1 player goes 0-6 and another one goes 1-5, then the remaining 5 players all are 2-0 after playing against the 2 sucky players. it is then possible that they all go 2-2 among each other, resulting in 5 players being tied at 4-2 with even records among each other. playing another round robin with these 5 players would require an additional 15 games (assuming bo1 format) just to break that tie. in particular, this round robin could once again end in every1 going 2-2. imagine there is an endless tiebreaker loop like in the famous effort-smash-keyboard-tiebreaker in korean air osl, but this time each round of the tiebreakers takes 15 games... It'd be better if they did bo3 then. To avoid tie breakers like this. With 6 matches and a Bo3 format the chances are smaller to end up with same w/l ratio of games in a group.

updated the OP with groups.

only terrans and tosses in rets group. thats great. and not quite an impressive list of opponents for him. he should make it out of that ez.
|
Ret's got this in the bag. No zergs in his group so the only thing that should worry him is all-ins from the terrans.

anyone know the map pool? I foresee Ret having to deal with lots of 2 rax marine/SCV allins and cannon rush / pylon blocks.

Group A seems to be the hardest my prediction: A: Ret, aLive,Ace, Sync B: ggoma, sC, mamoru, NewDawn C: Monster, Moon.Golden,August

This^. Since it essentially removed Artosis, Cella and TorcH from the running of Code A ![](/mirror/smilies/frown.gif) And thats the exact reason to sort out the noobs

I don't really remember most of the guys in the decision matches but I hope we end up seeing Ace and Ggoma move on.

hmm, it's unfortunate that Ro32 GSL1 was included, I think the more solid predictions would be: Group A: aLivefOu LiquidRet
Group B: LittleBoy/oGsggOma NewDawn sCfOu Terious
Group C: Monster FOXMoon
edit: I think I'd be pretty hard pressed to see more than maybe 1 of the former WeRRa members make it in.

They could always settle tie breakers with a coin flip?
*runs away as he hears iNcontrol stampeding toward him at the mention of coin flips or BO1's*

Anyways those players in group A of Ret. Aren't they all known cheesers in the GSL? Since they're also Terran I can't but hope that there should be some kind of safe maps for Ret and hope he finds some way to stop 2rax scv/marine push.

Meh. I don't think this tournament is going to matter very much. With the top 52 (code s + 20 locked code a) not participsting in the qualifiers, it will probably be easier to get into the code a tourney via the qualifier, rather than via this tournament result.
I think a lot of people are confused by the whole code A thing. Just because you're a code A player (#33-96 in GSL via points), that doesn't mean you will get a guarenteed spot in the Code A tournament. The bottom #65-96 will still have to go through the battle.net qualifiers just like everyone else. The code a title is just fluff, unless you're in the top half of code a. Maybe they'll get seeding in the qualifiers or something.
I still don't know how they're going to make that qualifier be a "top 32 battle.net" though. Because the top 64 of the GSL are bound to fill up alot, if not the majority of that list. Hopefully gretech won't pull a kespa and force everyone both in the gsl and top 32 ladder to play those matches. Besides, there's bound to be situations where some of the top 32 may choose not to participate in the gsl, for whatever reason.
Maybe gretech has inside information about the promised "esports patch", maybe it will be possible to set up brackets and record results within the SC2 client itself. That would be a good way to fill the bottom 32 spots of the code a tournament.

a lot of these code A players will prob knocked out Code S players
