I'll emphasize my last point again: There is no perfect format that people wont complain about. The only reason people are making a big deal out of it this time is because it's Tyler (who everybody looooves) vs Painuser (who most people are indifferent to) and the past drama w/ them in this tournament. The two involved both lost one series. It's that simple. No, it's not, since it was PainUser that beat Tyler the first time, so the match continues as a bo5. Welcome to double elimination.
The match does not continue as a bo5. It's a bo3 and potentially 2 bo3 if Tyler wins. Meaning PainUser has to lose more games than other people who did not face the same opponents. Seems a bit unfair to others.

It's the result of already having lost to that player. Without that punishment, there would be no benefit to having not lost, or to having already beaten a player. Even if you didn't have the extended series rule there's already disadvantages to losing. You have to play quite a few more matches (2 matches in the losers for every 1 in the winner's). If you want to win the grand finals you have to win 2 bo3 whereas the winner's bracket person only has to win 1. If you think those aren't enough of a disadvantage then make that your position. Don't pretend there isn't any benefit at all to winning. Again, that's part of a double elimination tournament. At least here you get a chance to return. In a place like GSL, a single elimination tournament, Tyler would already be out, and would never have had a second chance. You can't have it both ways.
I'm not saying that mlg's format is completely terrible. I'm just saying that you're making it sound like it's either MLG's format or single-elim, when you could easily have double elimination without the extended series rule.

I'm happy to see that TTOne didn't put full investment on the colossi winning the battle just so they could be obliterated by the vikings.

MLG handles it by making it an extended best of 7. The 2 bo3 for loser only comes into play in the grand finals if the players have not played previously.

Yes you can, it's called double elimination without extended series. The format is used all the time.
This is happening specifically because it is Tyler that has to fight back in the series. Were the sides switched, this argument would not have even occurred.

I still have the idea that Protoss is better off making more immortals instead of going collosi unless the T is going for huge marine numbers...

Wow! How did he do that? :S Go TT1!

ummm it's actually not. mlg's the first time i've even heard of this rule. been around and ran fighting game tourneys for 15 years and i've never heard of a double elim tournament having extended series rule... probably because it makes no sense.

It would have, and it did last MLG (or maybe the one before that, or both). You are making a lot of assumptions here.

Wow, TLO really does use his arrow keys a lot.

Yeah, hate super fast collosus against terran as Day9 keeps saying. So easy for them to get sniped.

If the angle we had was better we could kinda get a little FPview of Nony's screen.
