Even if you didn't have the extended series rule there's already disadvantages to losing. You have to play quite a few more matches (2 matches in the losers for every 1 in the winner's). If you want to win the grand finals you have to win 2 bo3 whereas the winner's bracket person only has to win 1. If you think those aren't enough of a disadvantage then make that your position. Yes you can, it's called double elimination without extended series. The format is used all the time. This is happening specifically because it is Tyler that has to fight back in the series. Were the sides switched, this argument would not have even occurred. At MLG DC a similar situation occurred with Select against Tyler, except that Tyler won initially and Select had to fight through a ton of games in the loser's bracket. I'm pretty sure even Tyler said afterward that he thought it should have been considered a separate match despite how it gave him an advantage last time.
Which means it pretty much an argument of two sides, with one side thinking it's too much punishment, and the other side thinking it's appropriate punishment. At that point, it's basically down to emotions on who has the advantage, and who has the disadvantage, and what entertainment value to extended series rule creates.

I'm pretty sure Blizzcon's rule was only for the grand finals for winner's bracket winner vs loser's bracket winner. I don't think anyone is saying that the winner's bracket winner shouldn't have that advantage there, every double-elimination tournament handles it similarly.

I just thought I'd inject this into here. I love being able to swap over to Halo 3 in between these matches. I know there's a lot of console v PC hate but I think both games are extremely exciting to watch.

I'd agree with you generally, but here it's really about that both players have lost in WB and it shouldn't matter at all if one of them has beaten the other one in WB - both have lost a bo3 and still one goes into the loser-bracket-match with a huge advantage Makes no sense at all, quite opposed to the discussion about the extended series in the finals. Well, back to the match, glad that TT1 won on xel naga, excited for more!
Someone said already, and it was totally ignored, if the next match went 2-1 for Tyler that means that Tyler advanced with a record of 2-3 vs PainUser.
Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it isn't fair/logical.

Tyler actually was the one in the last SotG to support this method. He brought up his repeat match against TAsteless at WCG where he beat him in winners and got cannonrushed in losers with no advantage. ummm it's actually not. mlg's the first time i've even heard of this rule. been around and ran fighting game tourneys for 15 years and i've never heard of a double elim tournament having extended series rule... probably because it makes no sense.

Iirc everyone on SotG that day except JP agreed that extended series is dumb.

FA= FrozenArbiter = Jinro

If Nazgul beats Idra 2-0 early in tournament and they face again in the lower brackets and Idra wins 2-1, Nazgul is out of tournament and Idra advances but Nazgul is still 3-2 against Idra in the tournament. That isn't exactly fair. Extended series makes it fair.
