This is a tangent, but why do most foreign players (clanless) who come to Korea usually join TL? Like HuK and TLO, i mean technically they're oGs affiliated but why don't more foreign players try to join a Korean clan such as Prime or Zenex etc. I mean, Idra was able to find a Korean team without knowing the language so why don't others try?

why join a korean clan, when a foreign clan will give you the same or maybe even more benefits?

Ret was stuck in platinum until about a week ago rofl. Stupid ladder promotion system strikes again. Also, some of the other top 'foreign' players who made the top 50 or so have a quite high win ratio (huk = 78%, select = 72%), so part of it is due to facing weaker opponents on the NA server.

Everyone saying "Fast siege tanks will counter foxer!" is silly. His timing pushes are basically MADE to own that (except when he scouts banshee, then he goes diff).

What a T facing foxer's style should do is blue hellions...

It takes just about as long to get blue flame hellions out as it does to get tanks with siege tech. Maybe a bit faster, but not that much. Also, hellions arent that great against marines, although many people think they are.

The hellion is very fragile, but does tons of damage to light units, and it is also very fast. That is why it counters zerglings and zealots, because it can outrun them, as long as a player micros decently. A stimmed marine ball destroys any hellions that even come close.
If wishes were horses we'd be eating steak right now.

I just watched today's semifinals...
Boxer made Hope look like a fool. Then he proceeds to seal the deal with a common marine-tank push.

It's safe to say that GSL3's level is going to be very high. Competition is going to be fierce and I think that some players really really really need to step their game up if they want to acquire code S.

All in all about boxer's playstyle I can't say much because I'm not a terran player but that marine heavy strat is really extreme and really showcases micro skills as well as games senses & understanding of timings.
Again theses ro8 and ro4 series showed that the game really has a great potential, and that balance issues can be irrelevant because builds and strats evolve so quickly.

But after watching so many insane Terran games, I can't help but wonder, WWJD? I mean, what would Flash do?

yeah ret is a monster

kiwi is going too, as well as sen
also another NA player, to be named, alledgedly

I can't wait for GSL3, as everyone is fighting for these A and S (especially) ranks so they won't be cheesed out of qualifiers for a whole year

Funny how the hardcounters to early marines can ALL be countered by insane micro, like helions, you just spread the marines so they only hit 2 at once, and BAM, no counter to be had. bunker play would let itr transition into the mid and late however, cant believe he didnt get a FREE defense against a player famous for early aggression

because you have better players to practice against. plus a larger network of practice partners. just look at what happened when idra lost in this gsl. everyone was talking about how he needs better practice partners...not that eg sucks or anything but i'm sure you know by now from watching the gsl that there are much more skilled krn players idra could have chosen from than his fellow eg mates.

I agree with you Varth, I think the way to at least slow foxer down is try and bunker play a bit. What makes foxers play so ingenious (i'm not sure this is intentional but i wouldn't be suprised) is the different builds he did. + Show Spoiler +
The very first game he rushed, the second and third game (and 4th?) he quick expo'd. The 5th he did an odd timed tank rush/drop (granted he didn't drop but he could have).

This caused Hope to completely be off his game. After that first rush when he scouted a single barracks he kept thinking another rush was comming, when in fact foxer expanded. The fourth game the proxy threw foxers timing off just enough to win and the 5th game foxer just timed out another awesome push that was completely different then the other two. Hopetorture is a one trick pony foxer is simply a better player at this point, especially vs terran. His timings are amazing, and may be completely based on the timings of what he has scouted hopetorture trying in the past.
Don't try to jump a cliff in two leaps.

I'm mostly hostile towards people making wild conclusions based on a few series, especially when the game is so new and even top players are still figuring things out. Foxer could very well be a stellar player, but until RO32 no one really knew him or rated him highly and he was a no name, admittedly very young, BW player. His micro is certainly impressive.

e: obviously koreans, and idra & co, have played him on ladder and there really wasn't much buzz about him over there either

Wasn't he the #1 rated player on the Korean ladder coming into the tournament? I think the foreign scene just paid him no heed because 1. he did squat in GSL 1; 2. He stole Boxer's name so we hated him; and 3. None of our normal information sources (Husky, HD, Day9 highlighted any of his replays).

By all accounts, even coming into the tournament, he was highly respected in Korea. SlayerS_Boxer even said Boxer was "the better player right now" really early on in the GSL.

amazing set of games, FoxeR showing that good micro can counter hard counters .

(kinda sad imo because sc becoming a clickfest was what drove a lot of casual gamers out of it)

I think, sometimes, the guys just need a little time to compose themselves. I used to think it was BM but, after reading about the devotion these guys put forth, I think it might just be so they don't cry/scream/go ape-shit on TV some times. They put a lot of pressure and expectation on themselves.

The foreign community has spoken and wanted to change his name from BoxeR to FoxeR. He told us in multiple interviews that if the foreign community would have the majority of what to rename him, he would change it to that name. Why would he lie to us?

Just watched all the VODs. Holy crap impressive play, watched the micro in that first game like 5 times, so sick. I love this guy. While a boxer-boxer final would be cool, I'm also halfway hoping for TvZ finals.

Btw Foxer even put up an expo at his natural during the marine attack on HT's main that won the game..

It kind of makes you wonder how much of his opponents looking bad were them actually being bad, and how much was Clare being good. It's hard to tell without a high-level understanding of the game.

What season are they going to start using custom maps?

Perhaps then we can have some serious macro games.
