Considering they do all the games on a stage with a somewhat tight schedule there just is no time to do 3 Bo3s that will take at least 2 hours Sure a coinflip sucks but as some people said: all players had two chances of advancing on their own effort

Not really the same thing here, DH should just ask the community next time for more admins and have either MLG style Double Elimination or Bo3 at least everywhere. If they were to ask me I'd prolly help out..

On the other hand, there is sth that i've considered in case of a drop - why not look at the points in the score screen? If one player has 50 000 points, for example, and the other 43 000, the winner should be obvious.

You are not are out of the tournament after one game, so it is not really BO1. Coin flip sucks pretty bad of cause. There have to be better ways to determine, who advances out of a group. because it increases the luck by alot and has a good chance to end in stupid ties like we just had.

If you play Round Robin groups (and I really prefer this over "normal" brackets) there is only the possibility of 3 players are being tied. Group play is by far the most interesting way to start off a tournament, in my opinion of course. Sure does suck that there is no "goal difference" in starcraft though. Perhaps you could use a percentual score differential or something weird like that.

Dreamhack's current system is inexcusably bad.

In the Worldcup 1986 Italy won via coinflip vs Russia in the semifinals - after that the penalty shootout was introduced. Maybe there should be something similar considered for tournaments - I mean even with a bo3 groupstage format you might end up with repeated ties over and over again. using MSL format avoids it though. Like play a UMS micro battle? That would actually be kinda cool. Anyways, whoever decided on this format is a goddamn idiot. It's by far the worst format possible, except for bo1 single elimination, because the probability of a three-way tie is so huge. They could've done double elimination, increased the size of groups to 5 or 6 players, which greatly reduces the chances for a three-way tie to happen, or just use MST system which is quite ingenius tbh.

Wow, it's just so bad that it wasn't some more famous player. Imagine TLO coin flipping and going out of DH, we would never hear the end of it.
