Update 4: Liquid'HuK, oGsInCa and oGsTOP (2010-11-22):
+ Show Spoiler +
Two Korean progamers will attend DreamHack Winter 2010. Team Liquid-player HuK from Canada, oGs TOP and oGs inCa from South Korea will participate in DreamHack SteelSeries LAN-tournament (DSL) the 25th to 28th of november.

This is not major, this is magic for all eSports fans in Sweden. DreamHack is proud to welcome two korean StarCraft II-players to the event and to participate in the DreamHack SteelSeries LAN-tournament with 205 000 SEK in the total prize purse, including 100 000 SEK to the winner only.

DreamHack will invite Canadian Protoss-player HuK to replace IdrA and korean S-player oGs Inca to replace russian BRAT_OK in the main tournament. His team mate TOP will also join inCa on his trip to Sweden and will participate in the tournament, but needs to play the BYOC-qualifications first in order to qualify for the 32-player main tournament.

Former DreamHack-champion in Brood War BRAT_OK will not attend the tournament due to visa issues. American Zerg-player IdrA qualified for the third season of GSL and will play league matches during the upcoming days which made it impossible to play both tournaments.

Have you not planned your trip to DreamHack yet? Make sure to visit DreamHack Winter 2010, opening 08.00 on Thursday to follow the StarCraft II-action on-site. Everyone will be able to follow the action behind the players in the tournament area, on the separate Eizo stage where Day9 will be casting and in the DreamArena Extreme with seating capacity of 1100 people. Information about livestreaming will be released in the upcoming days and gathered at live.dreamhack.se.

For those who don't know, 100 000 SEK is about 15 000 dollars.

For those wondering.
100 000 Swedish kronor = 14 878.1 U.S. dollars

About 15 000 USD could pull some nice competition. The Dreamarena last year was a huge hall with 1100 seats that was really nice with huge comfy couches and a 12 meter wide screen. Better than most cinemas i´ve been to and having that hall filled and Day9 casting would be so so epic. I remember last year thousands could not get into the CS 1.6 finals, so i can not begin to imagine the amount of people that will not be able to get into the arena this year. Oh yeah, almost forgot. They claim to have IMPROVED it to this year...

Don't be stupid. It seems to be the 3rd biggest prize pool in SC2 so far. Or do you know of anything bigger?

Ah, so it's finally announced!

Looking forward to this, any event covered by a Plott is destined to be a success - just take some hints from Blizzcon and DON'T fall victim to the endless delays.

WOW that's some major ignorance (but well 40% of americans are creationists so what can I expect :D). This is the biggest price pool of a tournament not directly sponsored by Blizzard themselves and considering it's in a tiny country like Sweden it's a big step for SC2 pro scene.

i attended dreamheack twice with my dota team and won it, and i can say without a doubt that this lan is the most epic failure of all times, hope they can step it up with SC2 because if they do the same with SC2 than the other games, this will fail so much and after 2 or 3 editions the players will stop going just like they did for dota.

The international qualifiers are all but a scam. My team won the qualifiers. The prize for winning the qualifiers was that Dreamhack will pay the trip of the team to attend the event and the registration fees to the lan. After paying the registration fees to the qualifiers and winning them, they told us that they won't be able to send us to dreamhack, no refound of the fees we payed to enter the qualifiers and a big facepalm. Official explanation, dreamhack had problems with their sponsors and external partners or what ever.

Oh and since it's a BYOC format (bring you'r own computer) type of lan, you pay good money to take part to this shit.

During the tournaments, players droped like 3 times through out the brackets which put us close to elimination since we had to play 4 vs 5 games, and during the finals we had so much technical difficulties and couldn't get to play a real game that the team we were facing on the finals just throw the games and played 4 vs 5 most of the time because of the lan network wasn't working well. We restarted a game like 3 times in a row after 6 - 8 min into the game already. We would probably won without the technical difficulties but since it was impossible to play a complete game, the other team just lost motivation and we won in a sad manner.

If u though that blizzcon sc2 tournament was a failure, just wait and see dreamhack, for the viewers and for the players

The only good thing about it is that day9 will be casting.

Oh and just an advise for the players going, if you win, prepare an invoice to claim you'r price and give it to them on sight hand to hand, so that you can receive you'r prize 3 to 5 months later, if you don't do so and send the invoice afterward, you can wait ages and ages for you'r prize money. And if you'r not part of an organization of any kind, you will most likely pay taxe's on it If you wait too much before sending the invoice they will deny you the money, there is a statement in their policy that says so care because they have a lot of shaddy stuff to use so they don't pay. Like if the team wins the finals at day 2 of the lan but doesn't attend the award ceremony/closing ceremony at day 4 of the lan, they won't get the prize money. Attending the ceremony is mandatory to receive the prize. And they never give it in person, but use a weird bank transfer invoice paperwork that takes ages for it. I know some players that never got their prize money.
Immortal or no Immortal, that is the question ! Someone give me a hamlet skull !

What years are we talking about? Because as a viewer watching the stream last year all was fine from my end but might been otherwise there since I haven't competed at Dreamhack.

Like any tournament with big prize money then.
