It's hard to do it really, it's kind of silly to, too. Since they're more expensive now and seemingly take up more room so there's less space to fit them in. Main reason is cost, since if you build three straight off and he only ever builds his like first 9 mutas, you've spent loads of minerals you could of spent on marines which can move around. I generally add on turrets if needs must, so if he constantly improves his muta count, but I think it mainly comes down to cost as they can't shoot ground, so if he doesn't stick with mutas it's a bad investment.
hmm lets see 3 turrets cost how much?
first 9 mutas cost how much?
i thats a fair trade.

In some ways slightly cheaper turretts could make for a more viable Terran D vs mass Mira?

You have slightly cheaper turrets, they are called marines.

gogo liquibet! I went the exact opposite You will lose that bet more than you win it. There may be 1 Zerg win tomorrow but I really doubt we will see even two unless some of these players play way better than they have shown yet (or their opponents play much worse). yeah I figured since I'm way behind in the liquibet anyway, I'll take a risk.

Lol thank you. Turrets are so good vs Mutalisks as it is now. If Terran's are allowed to Turtle harder, Mutalisks would be useless seeing as they suck at stopping pushes.
Had Gon skipped the Tanks, got up turrets a bit quicker and produced more Thors he would have been in much better shape vs Idra.
However Idra straight up out played him, it wouldn't have guaranteed a win.

Did this for the LOLs on some of the tournament replays I had, hopefully these are "high level" enough:
IdrA vs SelecT @ MLG: 30 vs 29, 25 vs 28 (IdrA won both games) IdrA vs qxc @ MLG: 31 vs 29, 29 vs 29, 40 vs 29 (IdrA won games 1 and 3) DIMAGA vs MakaPrime @ Blizzcon: 30 vs 24, 25 vs 24, 28 vs 25 (DIMAGA won game 1) SEN vs Loner @ Blizzcon: 31 vs 32, 40 vs 30 (SEN lost both games)
So in a sample of 4 BO3 series, with a spread of the 4 possible results we only saw a double digit difference in workers twice, and one of those games resulted in a Terran win anyway.
The average worker count was 31 vs 28, nowhere near the 50-100% advantage you claimed the Zerg would have. In fact it's close enough that Terran actually has an economic advantage once you add in MULEs.
I'm not going to make any balance claims because I don't think we've seen this patch play out enough to know. But it's pretty clear that if Zerg has an economic advantage it's not an early game one, it's only one that kicks in once the game progresses beyond two bases.

imo Zerg's ability to make, say, 15 drones, or 7 mutas, or 10 roaches, or whatever at once (when they get to the midgame with multiple hatches) is what makes their macro so unique and difficult
really good players like qxc, fenix, Loner, etc. of course know this and keep up the constant harass and pressure to force Z to produce units so they can't run away on the worker count
you can't just say "zerg macro imba" because you're playing mediocre opponents...
just my 2c

just caught up with the idra games from last night, does anyone know what the deal was with gon placing the ebays on the very edge of where the hatch would go instead of a more normal spot to block it? can't figure it out

because there were a family of ants living in that section of the soil, so he didn't want to disturb them of their peace

he put it so far out that it actually looked to me like it wasn't even blocking it, just seems risky that you might misplace it when theres no clear visual indicator other than memory for what would block the hatch and what wouldn't to do it like that instead of putting it somewhere that would obviously block it
was just wondering if there was some legitimate reason to do it i guess, like maybe if he put it in a more normal spot it'd actually be a viable strat for idra to hatch first anyway and misplace the hatch by a couple tiles and he doesn't want that. guess not though

They're pros... They know EXACTLY where they can place those expos on the mineral lines, there was no risk involved at all by placing it on the edge, because Gon KNEW, for a FACT, that he was blocking the placement, and that's all he needed to do.
