no where in my post did i imply that JulyZerg or any of the big names should've gotten a free pass, i'm saying they just lost some ratings potential with July being eliminated. and you do not agree that the way that this preliminary isn't as fair it should've been?

Of Bnet? No. Artosis said that Blizzard is providing them with the accounts, just to avoid any ingame messages etc ingame.

It will be so epic when the sf4 announcer in the GSL games will say: GAYBARPRIME. (assuming he will join Prime).

July's losing had nothing to do with the structure of the prelim. It had nothing to do with "fairness." He lost to a scrub protoss. Stop making excuses.

They need to do something about having a bunch of no shows and people getting byes, but as far as it being an open tournament and the chance of 2 great players having to fight each other for a chance at the ro64, if you try to manipulate the brackets it no longer becomes a truly open tournament.
I know people would love to see julyzerg vs boxer in a later round for the sake of nostalgia, but this is supposed to be esports, it should be as legitimate as possible with no favoritism.
Edit: If gaybar makes it to the ro64 I am going to love his intro with the street fighter voice on the stream.
Tasteless: and in this corner we have the blue protoss.... Voice: Gay Barru!

the best players should be those in the GSL. the current prelim system is in no way suited to ensure this.
This is an open tourney... meant for amateurs and pros, not just for pros.

Random is perfectly fair and it rarely leads to disaster.

Yes, There is no other way of doing it atm without being unfair. There are no rankings this early. It will get better once July and Boxer show us that they have something to bring in sc2 and there's enough data to seed players.

Boxer's final preliminary match will be shown outside the e-stadium as soon as his opponent's ready...and I'm on the scene with my iPhone on 5% battery, don't expect many more posts from me The observer is firing up the client as I type.

I badly wanted July to advance into RO64, but if he lost to some 1400-slouch who 4-gated him two times in a row I don't see how he possibly could make any impact on the tournament.

This qualifying system is perfect since gomtv puts notable players in different groups. edit: it seems so for now
|
Oh July why... well at least we still have HIM.

Sorry for double post, just found out it'll be a TvT.

People keep talking about how bad it would be to have 2 huge names meet in the qualifiers but it didn't happen in S1 and it hasn't happened so far in S2. Does anyone honestly believe the brackets are completely random?

sigh... again no where have i implied that July's lost was due to the structure of the preliminaries, i am saying like how Boxer got 2 wins by default because of no shows, and then luckily gets free pass to the next stage of elimination process... it should'nt have been run this way...
i hope you will stop drawing wild conclusion and put words into others mouth now -.-

not really... the elements of luck plays a larger factor here, its bad for ratings, bad for fans, the very same reason why both Starleagues of SC:BW are properly seeded and limited participation to gamers with pro licenses... why so antagonastic man?

Hopefully boxer's opponent won't be as good as TLO...
