can anyone clarify how long a season is?!

If I understand correctly then this 64 player tourney is a season and there will be 2 more seasons this year alone?!

A well thoughtfull and business person would now make a market of actually buying "keys" from GomTV for their streams and make a contest in which they'll be able to attract a lot of viewers/contestants which can be advertised again.

While I'm writing and thinking about this GOMTV should do this so they can actually get more viewers and lower the prices of the tickets which means even more income in the end lol.

Much like the thread about the Guest passes and some people who made a contest and so many people were replying etc.

Such greedy people there are and also at the same time generous people

If I understand correctly then
It's a monthly tournament as in the winner of each monthly tournament can win 85k if I'm not mistaken.

I would've gone for free streams for standard definition, and paid for HD, but oh well.

It's Gom's loss. They're limiting their own market from a get go.

$50 total to watch it live and have access to VODs for an unspecified amount of time for a single 64 person tournament? Get real. Very few people will pay anywhere near this much to watch other people play video games.

Aaah it's a shame, they need to ofcourse gain something if they're giving away such huge money prizes.

Hopefully someone out there will stream the stream of gomtv.

why not run one season without charging so people can get a good impression of what they'll be buying later on? the old free gom streams spread like wildfire over the internet when tasteless was still casting - do you suppose this will be the same with pay-to-view streams? not at all.
why not get a huge userbase FIRST and then let them pay for it when they are hooked? I don't see the advantage of your business model.

This almost certainly means no advertisements on the stream. It also means much higher stream quality for those of us who will pay, because there will be not be thousands of leechers on the free stream.

I bet there will still be advertisements!

The pricing for this is ridiculous. $50 to be able to watch all the matches in a month? For a new game? The pricing structure for this is completely unreasonable. With those prices I'd expect the stream & VOD quality to be 1920x1080. ESL's premium stream quality wasn't great but at least the cost wasn't totally unreasonable. They aren't going to be making their money off of foreign streamers, and I doubt Artosis & Tasteless are getting paid well enough to warrant a price this high.

I probably would have paid to go up from free to premium quality as I've done for both MLG & ESL but for $50, no thanks (and let's face it, since the games are in Korea the chances of me being able to be awake during the times of all the games is very low, forcing me to pay for VODs)

Well, yes actually I would a expect a U2 concert to be free. Similar to the GSL I cannot see myself paying either at any price. So if Bono wants fans, he gives free concerts. If GSL wants viewers they provide a free stream. And yes, we have became that accustomed to free streams since, well you know, every other tournament in the world for every other game provides free streams to its customers and fans.

U2 doesnt need anymore fans, they can sell out 50,000-100,000 audience venues, theyre not going to make more money with a free concert even if theres 10x more people there. And why would GSL care about viewers who are not going to pay (like you)? Only reason other tournaments give free stream is to get the to buy the premium one or theyre way to small to get anyone to pay for premium or have infrastructure to provide one. And I agree that free low quality stream with the option of a reasonably priced premium quality stream would be the best way to go. If your not willing to pay at any price then your just a freerider, no company really cares if you watch or not.

Pricing should've been like:

- Low quality stream and Low quality VODs free
- High quality stream and High quality VODs $20/month

20 dollar is expensive, but worth it in my opninion. How will e-sports ever evolve if people won't pay to watch it? I am disappointed in the community.

Do you guys have any idea how much a pay per view cost for an UFC-event? And that's only a couple of hours.

I happily paid 10 dollar for the MLG stream (Which was really good) and will pay for this one if the quality is good!

If I can be assured that the quality will be good, then i'm sold.

I really do feel like crying. This is fucked up. At least let the price be reasonable for a low quality stream. ...this just fucked up my whole day

I'm very much considering buying this. What worries me though is the connection from EU to KR, that might make the 20$ anything but worth it. Any thoughts on this?

Charging loyal viewers $$ to watch a stream sure will help esports grow.

That's too bad. I paid for GOMTV Season 3 since it was nice to be able to download the vods, but I also did it because I thought GOMTV was the little guy that I was helping out. Now I feel like I'm being extorted and I probably just won't watch.

And I just got my entire day ruined. I won't be watching this if I can't do it for free. Don't have the money to spend on SC2 streams unfortunately.
