What's the issue with White-Ra vs. Idra in the Ro16? If it's so that these big names won't be eliminated early on, I don't quite agree with it since I think it's both unfair from the other players' point of view and also lends itself to the accusation of match rigging later. I guess since this is Beta, I don't really care that much so long as the games are good, but I can see it becoming a huge problem as people get more familiar with each player's abilities.

We will be holding a lot more special events like this in the future. This is our 'trial' run and it is a pretty big learning experience for us.

While the way the brackets were set up definitely upsets some, no matter which way we did it people would be upset. For example, doing it the 'standard' way might result in WhiteRa vs IdrA in the round of 16. That doesn't seem very fair. And as of right now there is no accurate way to decide skill level (#1 vs #16, #2 vs #15, etc) since we cant have qualifying rounds. Just going off of a third party site where people aren't playing on the same servers wasn't really an option.

We respect the players and don't want to step on anyone's toes, but at the same time we want to be able to secure enough hype to have this not be our only huge event . The same goes for the players invited, it really is impossible to please everyone and I'm sure there are plenty of players out there who are better than some of the ones in this tournament.

So picking who fights who is more fair than doing it randomly? Random means that all players have an equal chance of going against every other player. That's fair. The WhiteRa vs IdrA incident, while it may be unlucky to have them together, it is still completely fair. As you said you can't really measure skill level yet, so I agree that seeding is not an option, but the only fair way to do it would be to randomize the brackets.

However, I'm still going to view the invitational and I hope there are more in the future. Good luck with running the event and can't wait to see some awesome games.
Life is Good.

People are going to complain no matter what happens. And the rule doesn't only apply to starcraft. All of these players are high quality and interesting to watch; if not for the drama, then for the skill level. The round of 16 looks incredible (I didn't think so at first, with tons of mirrors and some odd match-ups) but, after some time, it makes sense. No matter what happens, the finals are going to be extremely interesting. No matter who advances, the games are going to be epic. And that certainly makes me happy.

On the topic of randomizing the brackets, I'm not sure that would've been the best idea. For reasons already mentioned. Though the players are all top tier and of colorful personalities (), there are certain match-ups that just have to be seen (Orb v Idra, Plott v Plott etc.), and randomization wouldn't adhere to those specifics. The fact that the brackets were chosen to fit within these parameters also makes it excitingly unique. I can't wait for this to commence ^^

I agree with the previous poster, randomization wouldn't have been as good here. For the first tourney I don't care what they do to get exposure... this is going to be fun + they will make some money.

Hey, at least they're not rigging the games like in Korea. haha.

Well as a player I am fighting for players' rights here. It's probably true that fixing the brackets could be the best thing to do for this specific situation. But it kinda sucks for the players. Aaand in the long run, I think it should be a given that only the fairest methods will endure for the competitive scene. Anything else = drama, controversy, tainted tournament, etc. Setting up specific matches is for showmatches, not for brackets! !

I'm not saying I completely hate this tournament now. It's still awesome. Mega awesome. Surprisingly awesome. As I said before, I feel totally lucky to be able to play in a tournament like this. I just had to have a word about how brackets are made =]

THIS is pretty much as true as it gets. While its understandable that you want hype, pretty much all of the players you have in the turny would generate hype at the end so you, HD/H, cant really use that as an excuse. I wondered why for so long you guys ignored the questions of whether or not this was random or rigged, and its becus you didnt want to have to admit to people that you completely set up the bracket instead of everyone having a fair shot.

you cant put Day[9] vs Tasteless!!! That should be a 2nd round match up if they make it not a 1st round. Come on!!!!
Banelings? We don't need no stinking Banelings! But I'll allow it.
