Thoughts on...

Idra vs Whitera
+ Show Spoiler +
It definitely felt like Idra was going to take the set easily early in the series, but it seems like White Ra got inside Idra's head or something. Overall I think White Ra adapted better than Idra did, as he pulled off strong Protoss macro play while still preserving his excellent micro skills. On the other hand, it's clear from this series that Idra's micro is very poor. He lost a lot of battles he shouldn't have because he would just A move.

And when Idra tried something other than heavy macro build (ie game 6) he got absolutely demolished. I think Idra really needs to work on his micro and early game to be able to reclaim the spot of top dog.

TLO vs Nony

+ Show Spoiler +
The first 4 games, TLO had superb control. His Zerg play left me stunned, as he was able to harass and control Nony from so many directions. In the last 3 games, it seemed like TLO just kind of fell apart. He was making a lot of mistakes, especially in game 7 where he would have idle workers and overall made some bad choices.

I'm disappointed that TLO is such a great player and always seem to come so close to success, but falls short in the end. But I'm sure in the future TLO will bounce back and remain a dominant force in SC2. Nony also really impressed me in the last 3 games; his phoenix play was superb as always and he didn't let his losses in the first 4 games go to his head.

On Idra

+ Show Spoiler +
This game really showed Idra's strengths and weaknesses. He's an incredibly good macro player, and the training and practice he gets in Korea shows, really putting him ahead of the competition. However, his games also show why he never really got into the A-team in Korea - he can't adapt. He has this notion that early game aggression is for scrubs only, so he loses to it and he can't adapt if his straight up macro biuld is interrupted.
A sound mind in a sound body, is a short, but full description of a happy state in this World: he that has these two, has little more to wish for; and he that wants either of them, will be little the better for anything else.

I agree with you, though not necessarily about IdrA in general - just those set of games. His greatest issue in the finals vs. White-Ra seems to have been his unwillingness to harass White-Ra or to mount any sort of significant aggression early on. In the games vs. Nony, on the other hand, he was doing great with those harasses, especially in the game on Metalopolis. Judging by the success of players like Dimaga and Sen, it seems that early harass, esp. with zerglings and/or mutas - is key because you can't really macro-macro all game as Zerg as there are timings in the later stages when Terran and Protoss simply have a superior army and will roll you over no matter how much better your economy is. So you have to prevent or delay them from getting to that stage.

It's almost like Zerg in BW where you have to muta harass a Terran early on in order to prevent him from breaking you with a MM+tank push, except that in SC 2 the game doesn't get easier for Zerg as time goes on. There aren't end game abilities like dark swarm, plague, and (viable) ultras that will seriously change the way the game works. Instead you're still basically left with having to pump more units and spend more resources in order to beat back an equivalent food count army from Terran or Protoss. So to some extent IdrA is playing at a disadvantage if he doesn't successfully harass, early on. Yes, Zerg can expand and macro much faster if left unchecked, but good Terran and Protoss players can usually exploit that with strong timings.

Love the show guys, keep it up, and don't let the haters get you down.

We don't expect our sports analysts to be able to play the sport, hell most of them are idiots when it comes to the true details of how to win. Yet that is not the case here. Husky and HD are better than many I've heard on ESPN! They bring energy and interest and are commited. That's what it's about.

Husky and HD did a pure epic job of FINDING A SPONSOR creating a HUGE TURNY and getting top names in it. For people to look past all the of the truely epic good that HD and Husky achieved, is a bit shocking.

Mad props to you boys for getting the logistics together

Random criticisms on the TLO vs. Nony games, which I thought was a pretty awesome set overall... but I wanted to point out a few problems I cringed at:

+ Show Spoiler +

Game 1: While I liked TLO's control of his units during combat, he got supply blocked a few times (and not just the time he used Supply Drop, which seemed to be an actual part of his build), so his build seemed a little sloppy. I was also laughing that HD was so surprised that TLO made vikings (after seeing that Nony was making collossi against an infantry army) instead of medivacs ^-^

Game 2: Nony never had a chance this game :-( The fact that he never properly walled off his back door, despite the fact that TLO's speedling attacks were so constant and so devastating, was kind of ridiculous. When you need to pick up individual speedlings with phoenixes, you have a problem on your hands. On a sidenote, I really don't like how TLO just gave up on his natural expansion and decided to expand so close to Nony instead. It didn't hurt him too much, but it was a pretty big risk. Day9 recently had a daily showing Idra's play and how, when Nony put a blocker pylon at Idra's natural, Idra just expanded a few seconds later at the right place and kept the rest of his build the same... no big deal. It could have been VERY hard to defend, in TLO's case.

Game 4: LOL at Nony's ragequit, although TLO had this game won for such a long time that I think it may have become bm to baneling everything :-) I really wanted to see everything explode lol

Game 6: Steppes of War was a 15-minute boring game of... nothingness. TLO made useless speedlings/roaches and Nony owned with psi storm. TLO's drop and muta harrass was seemingly half-assed.

Game 7: Again, sloppy play by TLO as Terran... getting supply blocked, not expanding early enough (idle command center and scvs? really?)

I love watching TLO play and I think Random players are always ballers because they're willing to mix it up... but I think he's spreading himself pretty thin. His Terran play was pretty sloppy, and his Zerg play was only good when Nony couldn't stop the speedlings. What happens when he plays someone who can? I really wasn't that happy with TLO's performance overall, and usually I'm extremely pleased with the way he plays.

And every single game HD says the wrong units and players :-( He says TLO when he means Nony, he says a Zerg unit when he means a Protoss unit, he says the wrong Zerg (or Protoss) unit, etc. Usually I don't mind if this happens (which is quite often) because occasionally commentators make mistakes, and I really appreciate all the work that Husky and HD put into this tournament, but I think the TLO vs. Nony series was my least favorite set to watch with commentaries.

This was an excellent series!

However, I think the most exciting series was between Idra and BM in finals.

Idra: 5, BM: 1

Congratulations to every player in the tournament; they're all excellent! And good job to Idra for GGing, despite losing the finals (the game itself was amazing; all of them). I'm impressed ^_^

Well...

+ Show Spoiler +

Blistering Sands pretty much requires walling off the natural against Zerg and getting some cannons unless you can win with your first push. Sentries can block the chokes for a time, but they can't block them forever and a small force of zealots & sentries die rather easily to mass lings. Nony's build there looked like an auto-lose against +1 zergling expand, which is what TLO did.

Desert Oasis is pretty much a death trap for Protoss and losing to speedlings on it is pretty normal given that there is more or less no way to setup your natural efficiently. Nony could've gone void rays to try and quickly end the game but I think any good player - and TLO is a good player - can defend that with mass queens. I was hoping to see his phoenix play on that map to see how it fares, but apparently he decided against it.

Don't want to take away from TLO's achievement, of course. He executed his strategies on those maps nigh flawlessly and exploited Nony's weaknesses well, but I don't think it's necessarily the case, as some people are saying, that he simply played terribly the latter three games (except for possibly the last one, in which he did look quite worn out ). Nony's strategies may simply work better on certain maps than others.

A great end to a great tourney.

I was very happy to see WhiteRa take it away so beautifully, but disappointed to see TLO (my favorite for the tournament) choke in game seven after starting out the series so strongly.

Props to HD and Husky for organizing the tournament. In the future though, I hope you guys can improve your commentating. I'm confident you can make something happen in that regard.

Hey, I got a question. I was watching the games between TLO and Nony. It seemed like for some of the games that Nony lost in, it was somewhat clear that he couldn't have come back from. However, he almost extended it as long as possible.

Could it have been a tactic to wear out your opponent longer by just playing longer in a game that seems lost? E.g. If your stamina holds out much longer than an opponents, and it stamina has a great effect, then isn't it a possible viable tactic?

I definitely think so -- but that's kinda bm and I don't think that would happen between clanmates / manner players like tlo & nony.

BTW which games do you think those were? I really can only think of the blistering sands game.

As much as I cheered for TLO, NonY showed some serious balls there. Fast clickin' can be trained, strategies perfected - but apparently he has a great sportsman psychic.

Kudos, man.

With IdrA raging out when he as much as sniffed defeat, NonY's rebound and retaliation made the 3rd place matchup possibly more entertaining than the grand finale.

As to Husky and HD - hah, you've finally got the permission and partnership! I disabled the AdBlock on youtube just because of this :D I click every now and then on the ads, I'm now waiting for those pills that are supposed to enlarg... um, OK, TMI.
It'll probably be a while before the ad revenues start kickin' in, so I doubt this will influence greatly how much you guys will be uploading in this idle month... Or wil it?
I wonder if the camho-bots are scripted to click on ads as well...

You guys (hd and husky) need to communicate better with each other. It seems almost like a competition to say things, just anything. Instead I would rather ask questions to each other and discuss it a bit, instead of just randomly saying something that you see on the screen. You are doing many things great though, especially the effort to bring tournaments. Keep getting better at what you love.

Great tournament guys. I don't enjoy english commentary very much but yours I enjoyed thoroughly. I'm sure there are things you guys can work on, but the overall enthusiasm that you guys have in your commentary really makes it enjoyable to watch. I don't watch many english commentaries because they're just not the same as Korean ones (since I understand Korean), mainly because Koreans just put in more excitemnt, but you guys do a real good job bringing that atmosphere. And you guys work pretty well together too. Kudos to the two of you.

The matches were all very nice too. Lots of interesting gives especially from the 3rd/4th match, and very intense series from both the 3rd/4th match and the finals.

I should point out that co-commentating over Skype is a total pain in the ass and really hard to get right, that's definitely not their fault and takes a massive amount of practice. Even after that you're dealing with co-commentating with no sense of body language AND a variable delay, it's hard not to talk over each other and even harder to figure out when your co-commentator is going to finish speaking so you can start.

That's why you usually have 1 color commentator and 1 play by play person. I think JP is a great example for that kind of stuff.
