I agree I could have gotten it wrong, as I was reading that post, it just seemed overly negative in my opinnion and I didn't actually read his later post, where he's basicly saying the same things that I am about the different targets of audiences and the balance between commentating skill versus high level of game knowledge. It was a legitimate question and statement. What would happen if John Madden started calling a football a foosball. "Sorry guys i just do that"...do you think viewers would react? Do you think no one should point it out because he's doing a good thing commentating?
I just keep seeing these small hints from established casters/participants in the TL community (Not exclusive TL representatives) that HD and Husky are 'stealing their thunder' somehow, and I felt I had to comment on that.
Stealing who's thunder? TL's or casters? If we thought that, why would the event be added to the calendar and have a 140 page thread dedicated to it. dont. talk. shit.
No doubt that TL has done loads for the community and for E-sports, I think therefor I will stop hijacking this thread before it becomes completely OT.
Yeah, let's drop it

I would wish a TL representative would be more forthcomming against the two guys that are absolutely doing the best job at exponing Starcraft as an E-sport. Above poser is free to put his seemingly infinite understanding of the game into a tournament where he can comment on what he thinks is important... uhhh the TSL? lololol ok HDH invitational is awesome and all but TL.net already has dwarfed it twice with TSL and TSL2 I meant Starcraft 2, of course. My bad there. still, it's completely obvious that TSL3 will be a SC2 thing. TSL2 was clearly the last SC:BW TSL. and even beyond the TSL, teamliquid runs liquibition, team liquid clan wars, invitationals, etc. they always prefer to get the most knowledgeable commentators possible. its their preference. its what their community prefers. personally, i like all kinda of commentary. i see the strengths of different styles and i dont mind the weaknesses. but you aren't going to get anywhere by telling teamliquid people that "if they want something else, then go do it" cuz they already have done it. there's nothing wrong with them civilly expressing their opinions about the commentary of other tournaments. i agree that there should be some minimum level of knowledge required. im pretty damn sure that husky and HD want to be the best commentators they can be. if they are making some basic errors when calling strategy, they want to be aware of it. the teamliquid folks are the ones in the best position to call them out in that respect
I don't think its their knowledge that is the problem but rather their organizational skills. They just seem to stick these broadcasts "in the meantime" and as soon as possible without consideration for the effects it will cause. Like today one of them kept saying he might be late for work. Sorta hard to provide an insightful commentary when your mind is worried about that kind of stuff.
The reason i say that is because last sunday their commentary was very good at the start of the broadcast and then took a nosedive- simply because they seemed to burn out during such a long cast- which is understandable.
I think if they set a proper schedule and 1 match per broadcast the quality of the commentary will significantly improve.

All the pressure to do good to please the sponsors and the fans is probably causing a lot of stress, and that isn't even including their real lives.
I think all the people criticizing and whining should take a step back and practice some empathy.

It's kind of nitpicky to obsess about the pronouncement of zerglings though. I didn't notice it at all myself and Husky does talk very fast. Maybe it's also unfair to call them out as bad analysts based on a single flawed observation. That said, my favourite parts of the whole broadcast were when Orb/Day9 joined them for more in-depth commentary because during the games it doesn't go too much beyond descriptive.

Ever since I put it in the front of my mind that HDH are 95% concerned with the Youtube VODs and 5% with the live feed, I stopped being annoyed by them as much. But it's true they do make too many sweeping generalizations about the gameplay, but I'm not going to complain about that.
My worst complain about the stream so far is that HD won't mute his mic when he takes it off it makes a loud THUD then we can hear him peeing and the toilet flushing, so gross

How is nitpicky? Zerglings are the defining, most recognizable unit in all of Starcraft. If you can't even pronounce zergling, you have some goddamn problems that need sorted.

Great matches. Calling White-Ra win overall though. White-ra v. Idra would be pretty fun, particularly with Ra's love of proxies

is it possible to add the result of played matches to the op? right now you have to backtrack through loads of pages being careful not to overlook "xyz won" posts. would be really nice if the op would be extended with a [latest results] spoiler, or even better if the bracket image would be filled with the results as the tourney progresses.

First of all, thank you very much for hosting this! I am enjoying it very much so far!
However, couple of friendly recommendations:
1. Turn of microphone when going to the bathroom. Very unpleasant
2. Overlay on the replay time. During the day9 vs Tasteless matches, we knew when the game ended. Big spoiler Not just when loading the replay, but as you were casting the game.

I personally think HD and Husky are doing a great job so far with the tournament. They both have pleasant voices to listen to and have great energy while casting.
But, the problem also is that their game knowledge seems to be somewhat limited, which might make it annoying for more experienced viewers. I was rolling my eyes too when the talk about mutas into banelings started. But I can also see them being extremely entertaining for those who aren't that good, or aren't even in the beta. (Which is the majority of the viewers, no?)
Oh and just a pointer: You guys should figure out what a timing push is. Just because player X makes Hydras and moves to player Y's base, doesen't make it into a timing push. It's just a push, or an attack. Or maybe pressure. It can become quite annoying if everytime a player moves out of his base, it gets called a ''timing push''
Just my 2 cents! Sick games tonight, really pumped for ro8.

Ick, some mirrors in the Ro8.
+ Show Spoiler + How funny would it be if Tasteless go Protoss, and TLO got Terran? The round of mirrors lolol. The odds of them getting the same race all three games isn't very high, though.

I agree more in depth commentary would be add to the quality of the whole experience. However, these guys just need more practice in a professional setting. Since they started, they're just dudes sitting at their computers chatting. It's gotten better and better the longer they've done it imo. Not everyone is Tasteless who comes with superior knowledge and entertainment value.
Some of the other TL commentaries are great and very in-depth, but lack the pure entertainment value of Husky and HD. I agree, for them to advance in this type of 'work' they have to work on being more professional. I think though, that they are doing just that and are on their way especially with better graphics, pre-game, and smoother dialogue. Sure they could work on explaining the nuances like Day9, or Artosis, but if they start losing their appeal in any way, no one will watch. Ultimately, popularity and marketability will be the driving forces of whether we as a community can make esports mainstream where the good money will reward the best players.
Another suggestion is to have a non-commentator be the offical observer like in korean pro matches. That way, there will be less chance of missing important action, battles, drops, building placement, which is sometimes prevalent in HDH casts. Cheers to all and great job so far.

I MISSEd the ustream of the ro16 finishing
so please tell me, where can i download replays or find videos of the final ro16 games

Ick, some mirrors in the Ro8
Actually, as long as there isn't a Nony vs Whitera final, mirrors here prevent mirrors in semi final round and finals. Which is actually good to me.
