Hey everyone,

My go-to way of approaching TvZ is BC-Hellbat opening into mech — trying to force the game to be as low econ as possible so that I can have as much fun with my BCs as possible (I like to go up to 4).

Nine out of ten games, coming into the midgame Im at least even with my opponent in my estimation — what frustrates me is my inability to perform good engagements later on once Zerg has access to Vipers, Infestors w Neural etc

When watching my own replays (my mmr hovers between 4.5k to 5k on EU for reference) it’s easy to see what goes wrong, where I mess up in terms of execution or conceptually. What Im looking for is pointers as to what I should be aiming for - what would an ideal engagement look like generally speaking - what kind of composition(s) should I be aiming toward - this is what I struggle with: a clear vision of what to try to emulate/execute

Thank you if you made it this far

I see the pros add ghosts late game vs. zerg as a counter to both spellcasters and brood lords. I know it is completely different tech when going mech, but if you can somehow get there, I think they are the solution if controlled well.

The game and playstyle you are looking to emulate, judging by your favored comp, is Maru vs Serral, Map 3 (Hardwire), IEM Katowice 2022

Keep making BCs, upgrade with yamato, don't use jump unless its to go back home, push them across the map and disengage when the zerg army comes to clean up, only engage unless its to harass or defend your own perimeter
If you're good with BC micro you can yamato a bunch of corruptors or a hatchery and then jump outta dodge back home
Play defensively. have a healthy hellbat/hellion count, get sensor towers, secure your 5th base , start to add Thors and Ghosts
Be very vigilant of nydus once you have your perimeter defenses secure (really the only way your production can get tanked)

Realistically the zerg needs a high value army comp (with a bunch of spellcasters involved) to break a mech terran playing with the defensive advantage. They also require a significant amount of this army comp to be anti battlecruiser. So focus on not losing your army by making a stupid F2 push across the map.

You can see in the above game that Maru knew exactly when was a good time to push across the map (but the first time he overextended and lost some thors) when the zerg was focusing on a remax. Once it was time to replace his tanks with more thors he still held back until he knew a careless F2 with unsieged tanks could still do a decent amount of damage.

Play defensively, use your ghosts to snipe, your thors in the back.

It's not about winning the fights so much as it is about starving the other guy out now bit by bit. Secure as many bases as you can. Sensor towers. Building Armor. Turret batteries.

and Lurker or Ultra. generally everything is snipe by Ghost. Zerg doesn't really have a good answer right now, other than throwing units.

I'm a shitty diamond 2/3 player so take my advice for what it's worth, but I play TvZ similarly and will generally run with 2-3 BC's as hit squads. It usually forces the Zerg to either overmake corruptors or they continuously have to sit back with more units to defend as 3 BCs can wipe a base pretty quickly

I'll usually poke expansions with the BCs while my main force pushes, it's pretty effective at my level at least.
