I did a search for "quickest max" and it returned no results.
I am curious. In Legacy Of The Void, using normal builds (not anything super greedy like 4 hatches before spawning pool) and normal units (not just all workers), how quickly do you max as each race?
Also, can you mention some of the mechanics, unit choices, etc that you use? How many bases are you on? How many warp gates did you need? etc. Feel free to post replays.
I am a gold level random player and I am currently maxing my main race (Terran) around 10:45.
This is not an easy question to answer. Maxing will vary a ton from game to game. It depends on how much trading you do and what strategy you are using. If you and your opponent both just turtle on three or four bases you can probably max out by 7-8 minute mark(with Terran) assuming you are also investing in tech and upgrades that will make it take longer. But in most games you and your opponent are likely to have some fights along the way and won't hit max for awhile.
As for your question about buildings generally as Terran going bio on three base your ultimate goal is to have 8 barracks 1 factory and 1 star port. How you get to this setup depends on your build order, some people stay on 3 raxes longer and get double upgrades faster others get 5 raxes faster with slower up grades. If you went 1-1-1 you will have a factory and star port early on but if you open with a fast cc or 3 rax reaper you will have 3 rax instead.
If the game goes late you might add on more production. Often you will need a second star port for libs or another factory for some additional support units.
As far as mechanics go Terran has 2 predominant ways of hotkeying buildings, you will either see starports rax and factory all on separate hotkeys, or all on the same hotkey. Players who put all production on one hotkey use tab to switch between buildings. Both methods work and different pros use different setups.
if your looking to improve at macro I would suggest you watch this video pig made.
For hotkeys, I put my main army on 1, town halls on 4, and production buildings on 5 (and I tab through them). Pretty standard stuff.
I asked WinterStarcraft (GM Random) on his stream how fast he can max out each race. The answer was...
Zerg - 7:00 Terran - 8:15-8:30 Protoss - 8:15-8:30 "Assumes a decent army, not just un-upgraded marines."
Anyway, that's the info I was looking for. I wanted to know exactly what times to shoot for.
I like the PiG video. He introduces the idea of "macro cycles". Here's some notes from the video in case anybody finds them useful.
For Zerg every 30 seconds... 1) inject 2) make units 3) make ovies Then micro until the next macro cycle.
For Terran every 25 seconds... 1) make 2 SCV's per CC 2) drop mules 3) make units 4) make depots Then micro until the next macro cycle.
For Protoss every 25 seconds... 1) make 2 probes per nexus 2) make units 3) make pylons Then micro until the next macro cycle.
- The macro part should take about 5 seconds of the 25-30 second cycle. Do everything in that order so that you don't forget anything, and do it fast. - Stop your army right before a big battle, do a macro cycle, then go ahead and attack. That way you don't get behind on macro.
