Yes, this is correct, but you could always do that with 2 SCVs on auto-repair :3 But yeah, you could do it with just sending 1 in as it stands right now.

There isn't a single way that Blizzard intended for this too happen whatsoever.
I'll give you that Blizzard liked the idea of filling up another slot in the drop ship with an SCV to repair mechanical things. This makes sense. HOWEVER, a SCV repairing ITSELF, that's ludicrous. The only thing this effects is bunker rushing, which I suppose is now a staple of TvZ; however, I don't think they should make it any harder on a Zerg to shut down bunker rushing and halting the meta game where it is now by making the longevity of each SCV increase by allowing them to heal themselves (and thus go on to make more salvageable bunkers)
All in all: it's a great find for 1.3, but I hope we find it's gone next patch.

Think quite a few are missing the point here:
The SCV can repair _itself_, by being in the bunker on auto-repair.
That it can repair other units in the medivac seems a little more reasonable/logical and seems to be intentional.

intresting with the scv repairing within a medivac, glad it couldn't be abused with a thor But I'm thinking 2 scv's with 3 helions in a medivact could be quite sick for worker harras just upload from main when hurt fly to natural and woola 3 fully healed helions for another round of harrasing.

it also makes no sense that medivacs cant be repaired from the inside
