Random Question. What's the best way to view your world rank? On sc2ranks.com I have not been able to find my profile. Is there another site that's better? Do they only put up people in Masters? (I'm High Diamond atm)

I am a zerg player and when I watch people like Idra play, I see that he filters through his hatches with only having one hot key for all of them. How is it that I can go through each of them without having to click on the minimap?

Thanks

sc2ranks is it. As for why you can't find yourself on the site:

From the sc2ranks.com FAQ:
Why am I missing?
Blizzard does not provide a list of every player on Starcraft 2. You can always add your name to the database manually if you can't find yourself using the "Battle.net URL" tab.

The `Base Camera` hotkey snaps the camera to each of your hatcheries in succession (default `backspace`).

The simple answer: go ask blizzard, not TL.net

The helpful answer: Ramps are unbuildable terrain, and if they could have creep tumors, they could also have pylons. Pretty sure creep tumors are considered buildings.

As a Zerg struggling through lower Master level play, I'm realizing that I need to focus on one particular build per match up in order to improve. What are the best builds for myself (and others in my situation) to focus on for ZvT, ZvP, and ZvZ?

Thanks.

What is the aim of the 5 marine hellion poke? It seems like if the opponent even builds out of 1 rax, they should be able to hold it off. Should I ever engage his army with it?

In ZvP, what would be some good ways to handle a turtling protoss that spams cannons?

Broodlords are obvious solution but take too long to get.

I'm ~500 Masters atm and it's more of a question...

When I see a Zerg open fast lair off 2 base into either mass muta (they pop ~10 initially) or straight infestor tech what is the best response? I want to punish them for teching, but at that point moving across the map isn't as viable as you would think. I normally get a fast 3rd is that the right response?

If you're focusing on particular builds to emphasize macro and mechanics, then you can't go wrong with standard play:

ZvT: hatch/pool into mid-game ling/bling/muta
ZvP: speedling expand into mid-game roach/ling aggression
ZvZ: speedling pressure into mid-game roach/infestor

Although I would argue that at Masters you should consider branching out and trying different things to see what works for you (e.g., roach/ling/bling in zvt, roach/ling/infestor in zvp) as sometimes "standard" doesn't cut it for particular players' styles.

The answer really depends on your race and the map. Regardless, you should realize that muta and infestor tech lead to two different outcomes. Mutas harass shines when you are spread out so taking your third base quickly only amplifies its effectiveness. However, infestors are good at cost-effectively trading with your army but not necessarily killing bases, so taking a quick third can be a reasonable thing to do.

Can someone guide me to a solid, non-cheesy, and not really hard to execute build for TvP?

I've been trying to do IOEchoics 1/1/2 build with some limited success but it has some really funky timings (can't quite figure it out), two gasses to remember, harrass-based play built-in which splits my focus (which should always, always be on macro...I'm a silver).

Is there a build that's safe, militarily and economically, against Protoss, which deals with 4gate (obviously, at my level this is an absolute must) where I'll win if my macro is better than my opponents? Or should I just try and smooth out the issues in the 1/1/2?

Thanks!

Oooh and I'd like to second Suchoi's question: the value of a 5 rine hellion poke in TvT, since I go 1/1/1 and use it i'd like to know if my resources would be better spent elsewhere. I often end up backing off anyway.

I love this thread. I've read almost half of it over the past week or so. So apologies if this has been answered.

As a Terran, what's a "good" or "suggested" way of dealing with other races who in the immediate start of the game take over your gas? (Slightly rarer, build a rax hidden/hope they are hidden in your base)

On Scrap Station for example, a Terran went STRAIGHT for my gas - before I realised a scout was in the base (yeah I know - I'm a noob) he had began building his gas. Now, I decided not to panic, continue with my 1 1 1 build and rallied my initial 2-3 marines to the gas to take it out.

Meanwhile the SCV ran a bit wild in my base, so I decided to pull off a few of my own SCV's to take it out. A few turned into "all" as I was getting tired of this messing around.

Bottom Line = my economy was messed around with all this malarky, and I was a) distracted from my plan and b) under-economised due to time. Shortly after he rushed with 4 Maurauders & 5+ marines and I simply couldn't produce that in time (my bunker was dealt with easily)

So....

What would you recommend I do to quickly nip this annoying tactic in the bud? Same may apply to gas-stealing 'Toss / Cannon rushes.....

Sounds like your problem isn't how to react to a gas steal, it's how to keep focus even when there's an enemy unit in your base...

I play terran and like to go mass bio with medivacs in TvT. I can usually get a massive economy lead with 3-4 bases to my opponents 2, but then they turtle and I die to a massive push of tanks. Should I transition into battle cruisers (I really hate tanks)? I have been mass dropping their main when they push out but what if they have a turret ring?

just calm down. wtf is the SCV gonna do once you know it's in your base? build a rax? i think you can catch the building SCV with ONE marine before that finishes. there is no reason to pull any scvs to kill it; just don't forget it's there, maybe send one marine around the edges of your bas.

Whats the best way to deal with a roach/sling backstab when, as a terran player, im pushing out with a mech army? Im having trouble dealing with the immobility of mech but its my favorite type of play style.

watch the latest TSL Boxer vs Sen (I believe) game or some of Sjows games. 1st way is walling of and having your rally point take care of the units, 2nd one uses a bunch of helions.

This is called a gas steal, FYI. (That name may help you search for an answer as well.)

(Slightly rarer, build a rax hidden/hope they are hidden in your base)

Scout, scout, scout. Make sure you know what's going on in your base. There's no better answer to that. When you see his scouting scv, keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't hide in a corner.

That much sounds reasonable - just don't expect to get very many siege tanks with your factory fast, with low gas. However, note that a multiple-rax build would have been better - if you have no gas, it's better to leave yourself building lots of marines rather than to have a factory/starport and then no gas to build the higher-tier units.

Meanwhile the SCV ran a bit wild in my base, so I decided to pull off a few of my own SCV's to take it out. A few turned into "all" as I was getting tired of this messing around.

And that's what lost you the game, then. Not the gas steal, your reaction to it. Pull at most one SCV - unless you can get a surround and a quick kill. If you have marines, use them. If you pull all your scvs, you're costing a HUGE amount of mining time, and you'll have no money, no matter what build you choose.

Bottom Line = my economy was messed around with all this malarky, and I was a) distracted from my plan and b) under-economised due to time. Shortly after he rushed with 4 Maurauders & 5+ marines and I simply couldn't produce that in time (my bunker was dealt with easily)

A gas steal means you should have had plenty of minerals despite less gas, and so you should have had a bunch of barracks and a lot more marines than he did.

A gas steal DOES NOT under-economise you. It shifts your economy from gas to minerals, which limits some strategies you can do - but you should still be getting a lot of Stuff.

Marines are good. You're not screwed if you're limited to building more marines. If you have these extra minerals early from not building a refinery, you can build MORE MARINES than you would have had otherwise.

What would you recommend I do to quickly nip this annoying tactic in the bud?

Focus on your macro and don't get distracted. Rally marines to shoot the gas, have one marine (or an scv if you don't have a marine yet) set to attack the scv that's running around your base so it doesn't hide a bunker anywhere. BUT DON'T OVERREACT. Don't pull all your scvs. Remember to keep building SCVs, keep building marines out of your barracks, and keep your money low. If your gas got stolen, remember that you should pick a gas-light army - build a bunch of barracks and lots of marines early on, and use that for defense against an early push. Once you get your gas back, you can resume whatever you want - just remember that you should have a bunch of extra minerals that he doesn't, but he has some gas that you don't.

Same may apply to gas-stealing 'Toss / Cannon rushes.....

Toss cannon-rushes are actually different. You described a gas steal, transitioning into a standard Marine-Marauder push.

To deal with a GAS STEAL by toss, you do the same thing as vs terran. Build rax, build a bunch of marines, defend with marines early, maybe one bunker, once you get the gas transition to whatever you want, just remember that you have a bunch of rax.

To deal with a CANNON-RUSH, there's one straightforward way that will stop 90% of cannon-rushes. When you see the enemy probe scout your base early, just have one of your scvs attack it, and keep following it around until it goes back to its own base. If it's hanging around, go kill it as soon as you get a marine. If it starts building a pylon, go f-ing kill that pylon with a marine or 3 scvs or whatever you have at the moment - you'll see the pylon as it gets put down, so it won't have time to build cannons.

The other 10% are tricky. Some players will build more than one pylon as you're busy with the first one. Some will try to keep their probe hidden from you entirely, so you never see them scout. Some will bring a second probe to cannon-rush while you think you're following their probe around.

Scout around your base, make sure to check hiding spots, try to catch the cannon-rush as early as possible, and go kill it if you see it early enough.
