Hello, I'm having problems with stepping up from the Hard AI to the Very Hard AI.. I seriously have NO PROBLEMS EVER beating the Hard AI. Infact, I think it's way too easy which is such a shame honestly... The problem is, I just.. cannot defeat the Very Hard AI. I have so many problems.. It usually starts out with that I cannot handle the first attack. I'm an average Terran player in Platinum League and I beat the Campaign on Brutal. I just don't understand why Can anyone give some tips on how to beat it? Non cheese way ofc... thanks.

I'm sure very few people here play against the AI - there's just no reason to when you have such an easy ability to play against real people. Really, in my excuse there's no reason to avoid playing against people - a lot of people are afraid of losing, but that's stupid. Just play and get used to playing people. Playing against the AI means you learn all these habits that just don't work in real games, and you avoid learning many skills that WILL help you in real games.
But you also didn't attach a replay. Just "I play terran, I sometimes lose."
Really? I mean there's general build orders and strategies, but those are easy to find. You're not giving anyone anything to go off. There's no simple answer that's going to let you win.

The only reason not to play against real players is RTS Anxiety.... So, why don't you read this article: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=142131
Also, something to do on your own to get better at the game if you don't feel like playing people is get gold on all the challenges. Lot's of fun and I think pretty good for beginners.

I got gold on all the challenges. I have 2600 Achievement points atm but I'm still struggling.. The difference between an AI and a human is huge..

It could be that the AI cheats. At least the Insane AI will get more minerals from each worker than a human, could be the same with the Very Hard AI. You can look at a replay to find out.
In that case, playing against it really don't give you much of value imo.

All you need is practice. Feel free to add me (Zilla.230) if you want to play some no-pressure games. I'm sure we can figure out how to improve your game

Are u playing Zerg? From my experience, you can't just play standard and beat very hard. You have to either rush (6 pool) or get mass crawlers to hold off the early pushes. It's a matter of learning what the ai tends to do.
But yeah, beat the ai then jump into the ladder. There's no substitute. You may struggle, but that's how u learn!

I don't have a lot of experience vs the AI, but it looks like it does some 1-base timing push every single game (having a couple different builds per race). I'm guessing that your error is that when you early expand against an "all-in" push you don't throw up enough defensive structures. The AI expands pretty late, it makes 2-3 pushes all on 1 base while most diamond humans would think of expanding around the time of the AI's first push. As terran, you have tanks and bunkers so you should have an easier time defending your FE than, say, if you played zerg.

http://eu.battle.net/sc2/en/profile/206453/1/Trasko/ Here is my profile.. I'm not a bad player and but I'm not perfect either.
@SeaSmoke. The crawler push works.. but imo, that's not fun game play. I've tried it just to get some achievements but meh, I actually want to be able to beat the AI, no cheats. I'm playing Terran however. I used to play Zerg in Bw.. but now I switched.
@MasterZilla. Yep, I know the AI Cheats. I just think it's odd that I have such an easy time with Hard and I just cannot beat Very Hard . I guess it's cause of the cheats.. Hmm. Okay, cool! I'll add you. Thanks!

Insane AI cheats. It gets +2 minerals/gas per cycle. Very hard ai on the other hand gets the same amount of resources you get. Easy to verfiy if you load a replay.

AI cheats because they know where your units are, how many units you have, and where your expansions are even without scouting.
try a hidden expansion and watch his entire army march directly over without scouting.
however, they're sooo easy to beat with cheese and they always make static defense and weak units which should give you an army advantage.
|
i thought the very hard AI got 6 minerals per cycle and the insane AI 7? Could be wrong though.
Be careful when playing against the AI. It can help you with your mechanics and macro, but most of the time your unit placement, timing and composition will be off compared to a multiplayer game. This is because the AI has several easily exploitable routines, which normal players simply don't have, or can deviate from (static defence is a prime example of this).

The very hard AI doesn't cheat at all I don't think - it doesn't get extra resources, and it has to scout normally. (Insane gets extra resources and full line of sight.) It can, however, get up to several hundred APM, which means it's good at microing its base (lol) so pulls off its bo perfectly every time. It will always push early, which makes it good for practising against that, I guess...
Really though, the very hard AI is pretty darn stupid. If you learn any standard build order for Terran (make sure you learn one that's useful in multiplayer though, at least you can practise your timings) you should be able to handle the first attack pretty easily. Then any reasonable pressure should beat it pretty easily.
|
If you can't handle the Very Hard AI's first push, you should look hard at your build order. Most standard builds will handle the first push with zero micro.
