Does anyone else have trouble using NP when an enemy force is all bunched up together? For example, when a protoss force is bunched up and have a couple colossi mixed into their army, I try to NP them but when I try to select them it seems to not select the large unit as easily as i would assume. To use this ability effectively, I feel like you need to click the unit extremely fast or your micro on your army will totally fail. When I try to do it, the target jumps really easily to a smaller unit.

I feel like there should be some sort of "sticky" for the larger units with NP. Since other units can be right below them, those smaller units occasionally get selected instead of the colossi when I try to NP.

Anyone else experience this?

I think that Neural Parasite has gone from a very handy ability to a rarely useful one. It should be a way of getting rid of the massive and costly units... but take a look at the reality:

Against Protoss, you pretty much just counter Colossi with it, but Corruptor do a way better job because Colossi with range upgrade outrange your Infestor. Because nearly nobody ever uses mothership or carrier, it's also useless against them (AND Corruptor would be pretty much their direct counter too). If you go Mass roaches and your opponent counters with immortals, then it's kinda useful.

Against Terran, i think it's a good spell if your opponent has thors but no tanks... and that rarely ever happens. With battlecruiser it's the same thing as with carrier and mothership. You're safer off with corruptor.

Against zerg, Corruptor (or even Mutas) are also the obvious counter against Broodlords.
Ultralisk are very rarely used and NP would be kinda nice against them! BUT if your opponent has an infestor too, he can simply just frenzy it, and remove the mindcontrol!

So, i really don't see any usage for NP anymore since it comes later, costs minerals to upgrade and double the energy.

Don't get me wrong, I love the NP idea, but relying on the spell in any sort of way is pretty much equal to throwing the game away. I've certainly been in games where the positioning happened to be perfect and I NP all 4 colossi and they stay that way (you do need to aim for the head, and use shift-click so you don't accidentally unselect your infestors), but I really find the implementation of NP poor.
I mean: it's a spell on a gigantic unit with paper thin armor that does absolutely nothing if said unit dies. And even though 9 range sounds like alot, every colossus/tank has 9 or more range. That basically makes your neural parasiting infestors frontline fighters... any player with half a brain can focus fire them down and now you're left fighting colossi or tanks with no unit to counter them. It's the equivalent of relying on psyonic storm when the opponent has nothing but ghosts. I remember in one of the old battle reports the infestors could cast NP while burrowed AND it was simply a 10s long spell regardless of whether the infestor dies or not. I can't think of any spell in any starcraft that was channeled like NP is. Makes the spell way to volatile to rely on in any way =(

just save yourself some trouble and get corruptors my friend, wayyyy less of a headache against protoss

There still is another way to do it , you just mass roaches like a retard and he gets immortals to counter it and then you NP all his immortals , GG

I find that my problem with NP is that I can never get into a good position to use it. ZvP if you're at the point where you need NP you probably already have a huge roach/hydra ball and the infesters just can't get into range until it's too late, or if you send them in ahead of the army they'll of course just die. Honestly, I've just decided to stick with corruptors vs P for now.

I have NEVER had problems selecting a colossus. That being said, I feel like Infestors usefulness is very limited midgame and their use is only now lategame because you have to have two upgrades to make them useful.

What they need to do is make it so the NP lasts 3-5 seconds past when the infestor stops channeling it. This would turn it from the infestor possibly being a wasted unit if you NP to being worth it's cost in larger fights.

I'd say give NP as a baseline spell again (the 100 energy delays it enough) and then make this a hive upgrade for NP. It would definitely encourage hive play.

Either way I think the infestor needs a powerful hive level upgrade to give the zerg the UMF they need in their hive play. Possibly make frenzy researched at hive, but AOE, or make a hive upgrade that makes units affected by FG fire 50% slower, or make an upgrade to corruptor's corruption to make the affected target fire 25% slower.

I find infestors much less useful these days seeing as T has pretty much moved to mech v. Z... I also agree that corrupters are a much better hard counter to collosi. However, I do like to keep a few infestors around just in case I need a plagoo a mass of units so I can run away and regroup. You need an infestation pit for hive tech anyways so might was well built a couple. Mid to late game larva shouldn't be a huge issue. I haven't really played around with frenzy at all yet... can't vouch for the usefulness or uselessness of that.

Yeah but the colossi will be attacking the front of your army, and unless you put the infesters in the front they will be too far back

unless of course you flank with the infesters or something
