Hey guys, I was looking for a little information about scouting as zerg. I am a new platinum player (old gold), but I still have alot of improvement in front of me. I find one of my weaknesses is correct timing when I scout. Obviously I scout early, my question is more about early to middle game scouting.
When do you find is the best time to scout to identify either a timing push or VR/banshee rush? The problem is that either T or P likely have their ramp blocked at this point eliminating my zerglings from getting any of this info. Also, it is too early to have overlord speed so I am essentially losing an overlord to get information.
Any tips would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

hm at first i keep a ling behind his nats mineral lines to see when he expands and i'll sac a ling to see what he has defending his ramp after i lose my drone scout
i get 2 queens at each base initially (thank you sen), use a creep tumor to connect my bases, and save energy for transfusion for defense and then i'll sac an ol if i haven't seen enough at his front or as i tech to lair. in real time i tend to do this in less than a minute ish after i lose my drone. if i don't see tech or an expansion i have to assume i have to defend until i get my next round of scouting in
later i keep ols or a ling at each expansion i can (as map control allows), especially on island expos and i rescout his tech with speed ol and check up on his army count/unit mix with changeling. if you've seen nothing in a while you must scout and if theyve scouted you (scan obs) you must scout back their response. timings are relative to the MU and it'll be second nature after a while
