I have been attempting the multi-tasking trainer and saw in the tips the mention of using ctrl-F to center the camera on where the probe spawns. I did the following in the trainer:
Centered camera on spawn point. Pressed Control F.... then nothing.
However if I had some workers highlighted pressing control f centers the camera on them. Can someone specify exactly what this command does?
Also what specifically does ctrl - f1, f2 etc. do and how is it used?
Shift-F as well?
Another problem is with the mechanics of terran. If i put all of my barracks in one control group then I catch a glitch. This depends on whether the barracks have tech labs, reactors or nothing. There is some hierarchy so that if I try to create a marine it will only spawn in the tech labs. It will not do 1 in the tech lab, 1 in each reactor spot and 1 in barracks. Do I have to really create 3 separate control groups for each type of barracks or am I doing something wrong? This becomes a problem if I have multiple barracks, starports, factories all with different addons.
When playing zerg is it recommended to put all of my hatcheries in one control group? If i do that is there another hotkey I can press so that I can save the camera location of each hatchery and simply press that to center on it (while keeping the ability to create i.e. hydras from each hatchery through 1 hotkey)?
Any other useful hotkey tips would be appreciated.
Thanks.

You can press tab to tab through the buildings in your control group.

I like to put all the buildings with one type of extension together to avoid the problem. For example, I put 3 as my rax with tech labs, and 2 with my rax with reactors, 4 and 5 are for factory/starports and 6 is for CC.
Try a setup like this and maybe it can help you avoid building units in unintended places.

Just tab through buildings, i generally put all my production buildings minus command centers at '4' with terran and just tab through the subgroups. For example if you had 4 raxes, 1 with tech lab 2 with reactor and 1 without anything you can just use Tab to switch between the groups. I like having all production buildings in one tab as it does allow you to waypoint reinforcements very easily. Also despite having large hands i dislike using numbers beyond 6 as my left hand can't reach em easily so putting it all in 1 group is easiest.

Alright thanks I'll try that. What about centering the camera tho? The control-F option and the hatchery dilemma.

i have no idea what control f is. but as others say, just hotkey all ur buildings together. i play zerg and i put all my hatcheries under control 5. it is easy to then just pump drones and army at the same time to the same rally point with workers going to their own rally. the only problem with this is, it takes all the larvae from ur 1st hatchery and then goes down the list. so if ur 3rd expo has 6 larvae on it, it might be waiting for awhile. so make sure u try to use up all the larvae asap or in mid game, build army then drones with later larvae.

When using zerg use different hotkeys for each hatchery, then just double tap the number of a hatchery to go there.

Use shift F5 to bind an area, then click F5 to teleport view there. Or something such, I dont use it so I dont remember exacty and my SC2 dont work for me right now. Used to use it in BW, but then you could use lower F-keys, which was atleast useful.

F1 selects an idle worker. F1 again and it will move to that worker location.. i think it worked like that, not at home right now so i cant test it. If you press spacebar, it will move the camera to the last notice you received. So if u just built a probe and press spacebar, the camera will move to ur nexus.

ctrl f centers the camera to the selected unit, exactly like clicking the portrait.

It used to be shift in BW pretty sure its ctrl+F5-F8 in SC2, not 100% sure tho i just dont use them, small hands
MAybe thats what the tips in the trainer meant by ctrl+f", just leaving the "5-8" out

Yeah, what the guy in the training map thread meant was to bind the location to one of the F5-F8 keys using ctrl+F5 etc. Sadly (stupidly?) those keys are pretty far to the right so I actually don't use them anymore even though I used them all the time in BW. It's because F2-F4 are reserved for some hero stuff in single player (duh). F1 selects an idle worker and ctrl+F1 selects all idle workers.
Didn't know about ctrl+F locating the selected unit so far.

Its f5-8 100% I try to use it, so i bind my main and expo in the beginning of most of my matches, but i normally dont use them afterwards^^

by ctrl F they mean ctrl F-keys, namely f5 and f6, ctrl + F5/F6 binds a screen location.
