Hi all,
I love Starcraft II's story-line missions and I was looking for something similar but I can't find it. Arcade doesn't have a category for this and as far as I can tell none of the other categories have maps like this. Hopefully I'm wrong.
So, are there any decent campaign-style maps out there and where can I find them?
Thanks!

Actually this is a much broader topic than I first thought, solo campaigns created by the gamers can attract loads of casual gamers if they are so good as to create hype around them. So destiny: you got a new destiny
To answer the question, I think there was a remake of the brood war campaign, that might be worth checking out.

As said there is the bw remake, and also there are some rpg's rolling around, but there are no single player stuff as I know of.
|
Sadly the campaign scene for WOL havn't started yet, mostly because some campaigns can take several months to make.
That said the custom campaign scene in WC3 didn't start after TFT and the span of time between the really good ones were quite long. So it is not strange we havn't seen many big custom campaigns yet for WOL.

Starcraft II does not support campaigns, so you cannot find them on Battle.net. To find and play a campaign, you need to download the files from 3rd party and run it through the editor.
And as previously said, no campaigns of quality have been released as of now. Campaigns take loads of time to make - I am working on one myself.

i liked the singleplayer RPG maps of Episode 1-4.. just search for "episode" in arcade but i dont know if they got released on NA, too, they are in german. i dont know if you can play them in english, too, but maybe.

Thanks. Appreciate the feedback. To be honest, it doesn't need to be a sprawling 10 episode, epic campaign. Even if it was a simple map that was in the same style, I think I would enjoy it. I have seen the Brood War remakes but I'm looking for something original. Naturally, I've tried to make my own so I completely understand the days and weeks involved in making something serious. Even laying down doodads takes time.

I created "genocide on haven" about a year ago.
It was the first map I ever created so it is a bit rough but it did win a competition I created it for. (Prize was a steam game of my choice)
I have never announced it anywhere because I always intended on finishing it of.
storyline: "The "official" story arc for the wings of liberty campaign has Raynor valiantly helping Dr Hanson and the people of Haven... that is, until the protoss threaten the colony and then Raynors raiders go and brutally murder the colonists! Then Raynor himself personally murders Dr Hanson in cold blood!
Go behind the scenes to discover the real story of what happened on Haven from the perspective of Dr Hanson."
I just checked and it is not up on the arcade but it is downloadable here: http://sc2.nibbits.com/maps/view/136668/genocide-on-haven
as previously said, no campaigns of quality have been released as of now. I wouldn't claim that this is an exception. But it's there if you want.
BTW, If someone wants to take it off my hands and do something with it then feel free. I have no plans to finish it.

I feel like the custom campaigns movement died with Brood War. There were a few decent Wc3 ones, but most of them were nothing special. I feel like the increased complexity of the editor has allowed for better multiplayer maps, but deterred many people from even attempting the task of creating a fully featured campaign.

No offense, but that's like saying "If someone could make a music album for me, I'll make the cover."

SC2 was a brick wall coming from that system, but I finally figured out how to do the simple things you used to be able to do. If you'd like help feel free to message me.
Most of my experience is working with the data editor, but I'll be throwing myself full fledged into trigger land pretty soon to give a campaign for all the custom units I've been working with.
I wouldn't mind at all if Blizz just added simple BW style triggering as an option to increase mapping by an incredible amount.
Love how powerful the editor is, but even extremely complicated maps are often not as fun as ones with simple triggering.

Excuse me you didn't know where to look then.
Warcraft 3 had plenty of good custom campaigns. Yes the general rule will be that alot of campaigns suck because they are made by people who havn't put in the time and effort needed. But some of the people who did put in the time needed created masterpieces.
I know of at least one of the old WC3 campaign makers who is working on a SC2 campaign. But as has been stated these things takes time to make.

That's a fact. for a simple campaign mission? i highly doubt that. id put about 40-60 hours into making the layout/texture/doods do you think that would be less than a triggering a mission? but thats besides the point. i want to help make a co-op map right now.

I don't really understand why people think the SC2 map editor is so hard. It has a few little bugs, but once you learn what those are and how to get around them, it's relatively user friendly. Especially compared to some other games' editors.

When I opened the trigger editor I was blown away by how easy it is. But the data editor is still a brick wall for me.
However I have a background in computer programming so I think it just depends on where you are coming from.
Some people will struggle with some parts and take like a fish to water to others.
