I've been looking at the most popular custom maps for a bit now (not too recently at the time being) and have noticed that I have yet to see a Tower Wars map anywhere. So in that regard, I just have a couple of questions about Tower War maps.
1.) Why are there no Tower War maps? Anyone know?
2.) Are you guys (and gals) interested in a well done Tower Wars map? a) If yes, is there anything specifically that would make it interesting, unique or simply something that is desirable. b) If no, why not?
The reason why I'm so curious is my friend and I are wondering the same things and we have a high chance in creating such a map. So please send some ideas or suggestions with the answer for the questions above.

What is a Tower Wars map ? Is it like Tower Defence ?
I think it would be a great help to explain what you mean because I'm pretty clueless at this point, and I like to think I know most popular custom games.
If you think Tower War maps are fun, make one with your friend.

Oh, I am really sorry.
Tower Wars I believe started becoming popular in Warcraft 3 (may just have been in Warcraft 3). It is similar in a way like a Tower Defense map in which you build a maze and you prevent monsters or waves from getting to the end. The key difference is though, that you, the player, make units of your own that will spawn on the opponents side of the map to run through their maze and try to reach the end. If any monster reaches the end of the maze that person loses 1 life. Winning would conclude the opponents lives = 0 and you, of course, still have lives left.
Maybe that answered one of my own questions why it is not so popular, because people don't know about it in the starcraft scene?

probably because of the scifi setting, map makers feel more like doing other stuff (and most already done it in warcrat3 so they do other things hehe). Nexus war for example to throw in a similar thing.

DaGreenBean if you are going to create a tower wars map, plz also make one where 2 Players play together, one spawns at the bottom and one at the top. Monster waves spawn at both top and bottom at the same time, so that the monsters that made it through player1's maze are going to player2's maze. You could upgrade your towers, there is also monsters that attack your shit later on, flyers etc. It was soo fun in WC3. I miss it.
The layout was just a straight line from top to bottom where players could build their maze in, do you remember?

Yes, I remember a bunch of different styles. There was the one with a bunch of vertical lanes could have 8-12 people playing. Others were team based, 2 or 3 on a team.
To be honest, my friend and I started making a map four months ago. With complications such as school and some other things we had to postpone the development. I was trying to get an understanding if people actually wanted such a map before we started working on it again. I'm not sure if I should reveal it quite yet, because it is in the very starting phases of development as far as what we want to do with it.
This is why I made this post, to see what people want out of such a map. So we can improve our ideas and probably release some information soon.

O that sounds like alot of fun. So it's kinda like a cross between nexus wars and tower defence ?
You can make your own maze bigger, or send more units to attack the opponent.

Yes it is kind of a mix between nexus wars and TD.
Generally, you have a limited amount of space that you would have to maximize (strategy) to make your maze bigger. But later and later in the game you can send stronger and stronger units at your opponents (maybe ones that attack their maze or fly or ________ here for someone else that has an idea).

I think that's the one I loved playing!!! If you could do sth. like that it would be so awesome, I already requested this in an older thread, but it got no attention

Leviance, there is a possibility for that. At the very least you'll get some attention from me

Id love to have a tower wars designed as Shango tower wars (wc3). you can build really sick and uniquie mazes. Even if you do not want to make shango you should seriously make a tower war map :d

Personally I had to look at how Shango was designed and what not. Surprisingly we have some of the same design elements going on.
Anybody have any other ideas that would be interesting in a map? Or have a past tower wars design that was fun/interesting.

They had a map exactly like this in the first starcraft. It was called 'Spawn Defense' and it was very popular. It was played with 2 teams of 3 each. The units would walk along a pre-built path and you would have to build cannons, turrets, sunkens and spores to kill the peons. The more peons you spawned on your opponents side would increase your income every 30 seconds. This forced players to balance units sent to 'attack' while spending just enough on defense so you don't die. Eventually you could spawn stronger creeps and flying creeps at your opponents until you overran their defenses.
Suggestions: Have the creeps run along a low ground path with defense on the high ground. Then place 1 hero for each player on the low ground to defend. Creeps would have to kill the heros to get to the finish. It would add a new dynamic and give players something to micro in between creep spawns.
Please make this map!
