It depends. I don't think that WoL will ever be considered as good of a game as HotS (at least I sure hope so). Playing WoL on stuff like tl attack or more fun lighthearted community tournaments: yes.

Something as large and serious as TLS? No.

Well I'm definitely going to watch IPL6 so yes I guess. That's just because I know it will have a godly lineup though. Probably won't watch anymore after that.

I'm being naively hopeful that HotS will drastically improve SC2 gameplay and tactics.

Of course there will be tournaments, and of course i will watch them. It will be interesting to see how the metagame will keep changing and i hope blizzard keeps on patching wol.

Nope, not interested in those already, even before HotS release.
Maybe I'll check IPL6 if there will be some good matches starting from RO16 or so though.

Oh and I think WoL will be completely abandoned by Blizzard short after HotS release. Main team are gonna work on HotS and it's balance ofc and later, on LotV.
WoL will most likely get some battle.net changes whenever HotS will get em too.
And it makes sense. Pro scene and the most of casuals gonna switch to HotS, no way Blizzard will work hard to fix anything in WoL just for a few people who are still playing.

No. Maybe some random fun stuff here and there but everyone will be moving on into HOTS. There won't be much left for WOL.

The finals of IPL 6 will be the exception.

This is kinda like asking if you would be interested in starcraft tourneys when brood war comes out. I really don't see any pro-gamers sticking to WoL over HotS.

I loved WoL, I couldn't keep playing it because I couldn't play often enough, but it is a great game. That said, I don't want to see WoL played on anything more serious than just dicking around games like TL attack after HotS. HotS is a far superior looking game right now, it is just so open to change and is brimming with new micro potential, situational play, and much more than WoL had. HotS is a worthy descendent of WoL and should be treated as such. That said, WoL is still great and should be treated as such .

If the WoL tournament consists of interesting players, then sure.

For me it's all about the players, not which game they play.

At least at the start, Hots will consume my interest. Im willing to say idk in the long run. However Personally with new units and more options. And hopefully fixed to make hots more and more balanced, Hots will be the more interesting to watch in the long run as well.

A one off nostalgia event from time to time could be fun, but by and large no. I don't want division in my viewing and i don't want players training what will effectively be two different games.

HotS better not be arse. Ball is in Blizzar's court.

edit: definitely speaking short term, if there's a couple of WoL tournaments in the month or two after HotS release, that's fine. I'm not going to draw a magic line and say NO MORE WOL once HotS ships. That's a bit silly. HotS will take a few months to sink in i would think and in that time if there's WoL on i'm not gonna actively avoid it. Long term though, no.

Not much, perhaps a small event here and there for a good reason. Otherwise full steam HotS ahead.

I dont think I will care that much about WoL.

Doubt there will be any tourneys that actually choose WoL over HotS.

Hopefully will be HotS only, having 2 games playing at same time would either: A) Split the talent B) Make the pros suck becuase the have to train for 2 different games.

Now let's add a shot of optimism to this.
Pros are already saying that they love HotS, and I agree. It's much easier to come back from being way behind (for now at least), the new units are fun/a bit challenging to micro and micro against. So I 'm not sure I'd care for WoL after all the changes that HotS has done to lliven SC2 up.
Let me say though, if the Oracle doesn't get nerfed before the official release...

it all depends on the metagame of HotS at release, though I think its fairly safe to say that once HoTS is released that will be the end of WoL tournament interest.

Well, the question is how many big WoL tournaments will exist when HotS is released.

I will watch both Wol and HotS as often es possible.

An occasional nostalgia tournament might be alright but any tournament billing itself as a "serious" event on WoL will be plain stupid.

Like. . .I get tournaments that happen just after release, but anything a month or so after it when everyone is properly transitioned is just pointless.
Did you ever say Yes to a single joy?

I think the exact opposite.
It make absolutely no doubt that WoL will instantly die just like vanilla SC1 when Broodwar came out.

I still have interest for BW and still try to follow the amateur scene (thanks snipealot2 stream for that haha), but it is BW... WoL will just die and to be fair I'm not enjoying the HotS games that I've been seeing so far... maybe when JD, Bisu and the programers I like start to play it, it will catch my interest.

In a way, it's like asking if you want to watch Starcraft 1 over Brood War. Personally, I like what HotS is offering at the moment, and as long as it keeps that momentum I think I'll enjoy watching HotS way more than WoL.

This is in terms of big tournaments. I wouldn't mind small, fun and casual games in WoL every now and then.

Not really, because all pro players and tournaments should switch to HotS ASAP.

I don't really think Blizzard will support WoL after HotS in terms of new patches.

YES. it's not feasible for all WOL pros to switch to HOTS immediately, it will take time just like going from BW to WOL. I will stay with WoL as long as i can because the Kespa pros are probably gonna keep playing WoL in proleague for at least a little while, and i will always follow the korean homeland :D

"it will take time just like going BW to WOL"

I don't think so. That was a transition between two completely different games, while this is a transition just between expansions. For one thing, Korean pros who are strictly in Korea will switch to HOTS because GSL (And OSL, I believe) will switch to HOTS, and if it was hard trying to get your name out there with mediocre results in the league everybody watches, imagine trying to get your name out there with mediocre results in a randomy undergrouns WOL league nobody watches.

Most foreigners are also making the transition to HOTS. I don't honestly see any reasons to stay in WOL for any pro. The money is in HOTS. New gameplay is in HOTS. The audience is in HOTS. End of story.

Bad question will get bad responses...ofc people will move on to HOTS, but what i'm guessing this is directed at is the tournaments directly after release (IPL6, etc.), if so then it's just a bad question...should be a question of when, not if

Going with "not sure". HotS might have issues with strategies being too powerful in the beginning and with WoL being so figured out and played at a very high level already, it might be worthy of supporting an intermediate post-HotSrelease WoL scene. SC1 stayed around for a long time. While WoL and HotS are based on the same core, WoL might do the same regardless I think.

Voted not sure because after march there will be no more wol tournaments(after ipl) but I might still watch if my favourite players play. In my opinion HotS will be much more exciting and fresh than WoL so the latter will disappear.

The metagame for WoL has stagnated to a point where it is no longer nearly as entertaining for me as it was a year ago.

TvT and TvZ remain fun match ups to watch, and the odd TvP can be really fun as well but the other match ups are absolute shadows of their former selves. (Except PvP which is about as fun as its always been... which isn't a good thing for me.)

HoTS provides the shake up that's badly needed, already it looks promising and it's not even out of beta yet and the metagame is still in its infancy. I look forward to seeing where it takes us. Once the current season of GSL ends HOTS will be my only focus and WoL can retire with honor.

I think Hots will be very unstable and imbalanced in all kinds of ways for atleast 6 months so a WoL tournament would have been nice every now and then. Only problem is no pros will practice it.

not really. hots already seems more fun to watch and more fun to play.

As one of the "bubble" players who got on board when WoL first spiked in popularity and for the last ~6 months has barely followed the scene, I have to say HoTS is what's going to bring me back. In the meantime I'm still open to really good WoL tournies; Iron Squid II was awesome. But when HoTS is here I'm switching over fully.

After IPL6 I doubt it. That will probably be the end of WoL for me, I've stopped playing it already.

Does anyone still watch pre Broodwar starcraft 1? Or even play it? WoL could be good for some fun tournaments where the players will have forgotten most of the meta.

Only for IPL6, and that's only for certain players. Not as much for entertaining gameplay. Even in its unstable beta phase I find HotS superior to WoL.

I'm also anticipating IM to make it to the finals against Startale in IPLTL. So that's something else that has me hyped for IPL6 as you can see from the bottom right corner of my posts.

WoL has been a joke to be honest. Zerg has been a joke for over a year, I can't believe it got left in such an overpowered state til the very end. *sigh*

It depends for me. For example, I believe the IPL 6 main tournament will still be WoL so I will definitely watch. But, my focus will certainly be more on HoTS.

i wish they would offer BW with the new WoL engine, hotkeys, rally points etc....

That would be SO fun. I'd pay a $5.00 patch or something for the new engine.

You could play
BW
WoL
HoTS

While I will eventually switch over to HOTS completely But I'm going to wait untill it's actually balanced first. Thats one reason I'm thankful IPL 6 will be WOL. It will be the last major tournament we will see in a while that will be even close to the balance we got in WOL.

Unless someone cool suddenly becomes super gosu like TLO starts destroying Code S, i will not def not bother with WoL. The next GSL is probably the last WoL tournament i'll watch.

If it's a tournament I'm emotionally invested in, like the DSCL or MLG or something, I would totally watch it.

This GSL with WoL meta is so good. It's a bit sad that it will be somewhat of a one/two base allin-reset

But of course, if all the pros go HotS, the best thing about WoL won't even exist, so yeah, perhaps not so interesting.

To be honest, I'm more than willing to watch more WoL until HotS stabilize.
Watching hellbats drop kill everyone is not very fun for the moment. Nor is watching Oracle being totally unanwsered by pro players.

Probably not. In my opinion when HotS comes out its essentially the evolution of StarCraft 2 and watching WoL would be kind of a step back. Not to mention I watch tournaments to learn as well as have fun and I cant learn anything about HotS if I'm watching WoL.

I basically agree with Noocta and I don't want to go on some horribly long winded diatribe about how HotS doesn't look like an evolution, because it's either been said before, or someone with clout in the community will say it better than I, so instead I'll just leave now having left my sentiment.

Well Kespa will be switching reasonably soon, and if you're watching FPL (how do you even do that?) the actual game won't matter as much I think.

I don't know, but I seem to prefer WOL than HOTS.... Maybe is because I am used of the game and I like it. I guess I'll get used to HOTS when I'll be watching more of it and switch playing. But it's true that new stuff can be exciting, but I want the new game to stabilize.

I chose 'no' but as per everyone else in this thread IPL6 will be the exception to that rule. I like that they're sticking with WoL, IPL5 really put themselves out there as been the number 1 premier American tournament, and not choosing to do a HotS tournament when the game is still in its infancy is a smart move in my opinion. Seems to add more legitimacy to the tournament.

Yes, absolutely. As well as beta is going, we still kinda need high level tournament games with money on the line before it becomes really balanced. I would probably still watch WOL events for 3-5 months after hots release.

No, im so bored of WoL. I moved over to pure hots nearly 4 months ago and I love each game. They are all so dynamic and entertaining to watch and play. Obviously Ill watch wol tournaments a few months after release, but by June I expect everyone to switch over.

Will I still be interested in a version of HotS where Protoss air units are godawful, Zerg t2 ground army is worthless and Terran has no clear answer to mass chargelots? No, I'll have no interest in WoL tournaments.

Eventually I probably wont really care to watch WoL once Hots kicks off properly but as it is wings seems much more balanced right now and most new hots strategies look a lot like the early cheesefest that was the wings beta and early GSLs. I suppose even with that in mind hots is gonna have a novelty factor but that goes only so far.

I guess lot of my interest in hots is gonna ride on how effectively Blizzard can nail down the balance before and after the launch.

My answer is yes, it's like comparing Jin Air OSL to GSL Season One. I'd rather see refined gameplays in older games than gimmicky cheeses in new games.

It's a pity, but SC becomes more and more simple, so, it's less exсiting to watch the games. I personally prefer BW games with REAL macro games, deep strategic mindgames and so on. And in SC2 we have one, maybe two main big battles in the middle of the map and then "gg". And I afraid that it will be in the HOTS as well.

I think it is all about quality of play. Dynamic, intesne games are all anyone wants. Particular units are not necessarilly the keys to dynamic play.

Also, I'm not so sure about HOTS!!! Call me nuts, but the games haven't proven it will be a fun watch! TvT is Reaper into Hellbat drop (OP and boring) ZvT is blah WM play. PvT and PvZ really aren't that different! The only truly great change IMO is PvP, which has always been a really cool mirror (again, IMO), but will now be VERY exciting to watch, with quite a few varied builds. Seeing the stuff Grubby, White-Ra, and others are doing PvP-wise is very exciting.

No, I'll be watching HOTS only. This is already what I do at the moment, my interest in WOL is completely gone since 2-3 months. HOTS looks promising, from what I played of the beta (about 100+ games) it looks great.

Agreed 100%. I'm not going to play a game (or take one seriously as a fan) with crappy, childish units like the Viper and Swarm Host. I've tried to give HotS a chance, but it's just so dull to watch, nothing like WoL in the beta.

Sadly WoL is very stale, but this is just a symptom of the game mechanics: Things like warp-in, force-field, and fungal growth (mainly the first of the three) mean that you can only go so far with new maps. Add in mechanics that allow for hard-core powering on any map (MULE, inject larvae), and all the games look the same after a while.

Happily we have BW, and the scene seems to be perking up recently.

Not at all. This would be similar to people playing in vanilla SC after BW had already been released. It doesn't make sense to play the same version of a game without the expansion.

BW is a different game completely than SCII, so it still makes sense to play that. Not much of reason to play or watch SCII:WoL after HotS is released.

I do not see many reason for being interested in WoL after the release of HotS. Maybe a special event or tournament from time to time in WoL, but overall it will be all about HotS. I personally wont be interested in WoL anymore - not at all.

HoTS is less fun to play and watch. Balance is not part of the discussion, I know a lot of people have their unit to call "OP" or "UP" but that's really not what I'm getting at. The point is, the game is just more nerve-racking, more frustrating, and LESS FUN. The high-level games I have watched have also not been nearly as entertaining as the average WoL match, but that's how WoL was to start, it's possibly just a lack of meta game existing yet (or it's possibly, as I somewhat suspect, because the game is too unforgiving and therefore becoming more luck-based at a very high level of play and less skill-based.. but that's just my suspicion, it is too early to say for sure).

the community is going to be such a mess after they release all 3 games..

so scattered

they should just make 1 addon and fast after the release of the original (like BW) and then just balance the shit out of it..

I bet it would be awesome that way

HoTS is a joke, for games involving terran at least.

Games have turned into 1 base mine/hellion drop, where you use light-speed medivacs to drop mines over the entire half of the enemy base in 2 seconds and try to destroy all workers.
That's just cheesy, the whole game shouldn't be decided in 5 seconds of luck based micro.

I haven't watched a bit of HOTS other than the first few days of beta, but the answer is definitely no. I'm just hoping that the first months of HOTS aren't like the first months of WOL.

I'm surprised that over half of the people will just abandon WoL. I can kind of understand though, with the broodlord infestor composition's completely making the game a snooze fest.

The sad part is that HotS will be exactly the same as WoL in that aspect. Something will be overpowered for a year, then something else becomes overpowered for a year. Blizzard Entertainment™,

WoL was a great game, but after GSL or maybe IPL6 I dont see a need to follow it anymore. Most of the players are playing HotS anyway; we might as well accept it as it is and all move on...

HotS will be a great game for sure !

There will be no sense for anyone to continue with WoL.Why should any Pro train WoL if almost every tournament will be HotS?

I think we should stop calling it "HotS" and begin talking about "SC2".The WoL ladders are actually almost dead.In my league we are 70 and only the first 30 got more than 4 games this season...If any organizer want to make WoL event after 12.12, they should know, almost nobody will watch it and the most Pros will not go...

I think that it will be just called "SC2" again after it comes out in march and Wol is officially over.
Naw man, I'm good.

Wol was too lumpy. I didnt like units like immortal which were completely unoriginal and designed horriby. I mean how do you micro against an immortal? Hots should and has potential to be better after a year n a half lolz.
