Super awesome. Obviously not perfect with the lag but that's not MLG's fault. Also would have been better w/o extended series.

Ofcause room for improvement. Like no adds when switching stream quality.

The warpprism guys made a BRILLIANT stream page setup. MLG guys should look at that.

Prior to Columbus, MLG was one of my least favorite events. The past few days completely changed my mind - with all the new changes it's absolutely amazing. Can't wait for the next tournament!

Disappointed because of lag on stream. Missed many games because lag made them unwatchable >< Just waiting for the vods now, but that's not as fun.

Sure there are a few thing MLG can improve upon but the difference from last MLG to this one was HHHUUUGGGEEE. Next time, get a third set of casters and do 3 streams. Needs to be coverage of the open bracket, and better coverage on Championship Sunday.

Also, get rid of extended series. There gots to be a way to give the winner of a previous match some advantage without giving them a huge 2-0 lead in following matchups. having to win 4/5 is not realistic.

And there were some small lag issues and to many commercials at some points, but, on the whole, it was AWESOME!

The only thing I didn't enjoy about MLG Columbus was having to watch/listen to that horrendous Bing commercial approximately 200 times. Honestly, I haven't been able to get the song out of my head. I am prepared to sue Microsoft if this becomes a lingering condition. "Yoehyoehyoooo, weee can't be defeated!" ahhhhhhhhhhh! Who is this lame band? Why are they all in robes? Why didn't they let those nice people in the elevator? Oh crap, I'm losing it

Super awesome. Very annoying with the continual stream jumping issues on the Sunday, but a huge improvement over Dallas with a lot of high quality games

Overall a realy good event, few thing to whine about tho.
Commercials on streams was very annoying, volume went up 300%, and there was a commercial everytime you switched stream or went from Low quality to high. And you couldent turn down or mute the volume of the commercials.
Some lag on streams, i have great internet but still it stopped to buffer quite often =(
HQ isnt HQ at all... Even with free HQ streams the quality is pretty bad compared to other streams =/

Overall the event was great tho! Shouldent complain realy... Well done MLG.

I just hope Idra doesn't ragequit out of the pro scene, because I really like watching his games...when he's on his game. >.>

But yeah, amazing event. This was my first MLG, and it's basically provided me with my favorite players. Woot woot!

The best sc2 tournament held so far. Without a doubt. TSL3 was great and really good fun to watch but this was on another level. I hope they don't screw it up from here forward.

The only thing that sucks is extended series. There really should just be more games for the final stages and not just constant best of threes.

Super awesome obv. There were still some problems with storms and such, but overall the best lan coverage I've seen. Doublestream was awesome too, really had hard time doing anything else in the weekend since almost all the wake-time there were games casted from Columbus

Ok. Of course we hate the commercials. But that's one way for MLG to survive. They need funds, and they get some of it by commercials.

I personally don't really care about commercials since they supporting the event, i got one stream muted, so it wasn't so annoying as many claim, ye it did interrupted casters maybe 10 times or so during 3 day event even having it muted, but hey, not big deal. I think they mostly been annoyed when there were no games players, and people were sitting there listening to the same commercials over and over.

Really great event. I think the match quality was the best we've seen so far from MLG, and the entertainment level was superb. Unfortunately some technical issues kept it from being "perfect" but certainly a big improvement from Dallas.

I understand that the partnership with GOM might make this impossible but I'd love to see some Plott bros commentary. Kudos MLG; you are heading (sprinting) in the right direction.

super awesome, but we needed more chairs.

At one point they said we needed to stop stealing halo's chairs because it was a fire hazard.

I liked the streams. However there are some improvements that could make it better.

No ads when switching quality (if you swiched in the middle of a match, you loose like 30sec(?) of that match..)

I (and my friends) had a lot of trouble keeping track to what stream was actually LIVE. We switched streams if there was some players we rather would want to watch. It was VERY difficult to keep track what players that was going to play next, here the different streams made it messy because if we watched RED, we had no idea who was going to play on BLUE etc.. (maybe there was a rooster or something up but we didn't find any and we just wanted to watch the stream).

But, last but not least, it was very entertaining and enjoyable! Thanks for streaming it and streaming it HQ!

The question is wrong.

Half of the answers is comments about the games and the other half about the organisation.

Make another poll/thread with the right question this time.

Pros:
-Awesome casting (much more continuous, too)
-Twice the games
-Super drama
-Good games overall
-Free HQ for the streams

Cons:
-Laggy/disconnecting streams
-No casting mix-up (Day9 + Tasteless, etc.)
-Disappointing showing by the foreigners
-Lack of "behind the scene" footage (no random player interviews, no roaming about the hallways...)
-Why do you still have map presentations, MLG ?
You and whose 200/200 fully upgraded army?

The play in it self was awesome, and the addition of the Korean players made the competition so much steeper and interesting to watch.

Though it was a total repeat of MLG Dallas in regards to streaming, if not worse.
*A lot of technical issues
*Constant streams going down
*Ads were way too constant, and blaring.

The only fault that made the whole experience seem less professional was the pausing and the whispers. I understand that there will be technical difficulties with running so many matches consecutively but the whispers in particular really stuck out.

Edit: The map presentation took way too much time. There really shouldn't be such a long map preview.

For me, MLG Columbus was as close to perfect as you can get. The games were amazing, the casting was amazing and the venue was amazing.

Most of the things that went wrong were of little to no fault of MLG like the occasional lag, players' keyboards not working, the hail storm, etc. The only thing I wish they would have done is had as many chairs for starcraft as they did for Halo, but even that they fixed as the last two matches (losers bracket final and grand final) were broadcast over all 3 sections (starcraft, Halo, and Call of Duty), resulting in plenty of chairs and space for people to enjoy the event.

A little disappointing that Koreans took top 3, but hopefully this will motivate some foreigners to work even harder to maybe do better agains Koreans in the future. I think some foreigners are very close to being able to compete with the Koreans...just a little more refinement and they'll be there!

And for those of you complaining about the advertisements, get a life. You obviously don't know how an entertainment business makes any money at all. True, maybe they could mix it up a bit, but the fact compaines think e-sports is even worth supporting is absolutely awesome.

Way to go MLG!!!!

It was 'the' best SC2 tournament I've ever seen. The stream was great with no lag whatsoever. All of the games were live, the casters and the interviewers were entertaining. There were no long pause periods between games. I just sat down and watched the event for 3 days.

I can only comment on the extended series rule. I think it has to be tweaked.

Except for the lag during games (Hi Blizzard, LAN please!) and the prolonged delay between some games, it was Perfect. But I voted Super Awesome as those 2 play a factor in judging a tournament. Very well done though!

This was the first MLG I actively followed (at the expense of sleep, seeing as I'm 6 timezones ahead) because of how hyped it was and it did not disappoint at all. Some items that can be improved:

- Commercials, when they would appear (switch streams, see ad, switch to HQ, see ad, a bit too much) and their content (most commercials were targeted 100% at a US audience, perhaps contact some global or european companies as well next time and provide more region-dependent ads)
- Downtime between casted matches. Having 2 streams is a great idea, but often both streams would have nothing going on. Schedule the breaks for the casters so that there's always a game being casted. Alternatively, include some games that are just being obs'ed (and not casted) when the casters are on a break.
- A more flexible schedule to allow the best matches to be broadcast. Coupled with the previous point, there were points of downtime on both streams when some amazing players were duking it out (MC vs Thorzain for example). Keeping the schedule flexible so these kind of matches can be casted would be great. At the end of sunday they did change up the schedule to do all matches sequentially, which was great.
- Backstage footage, player interviews, atmosphere impressions. Other than a few crowd shots and some short interviews by JP, there wasn't much going on when there were no games. Including more content from the convention floor will draw the viewers at home closer to the actual experience of being on the spot.
- Some technical issues. Streams lagged every now and then (but it wasn't that bad). The players/casters lagging ingame was more annoying, but that's 100% on Blizzard to resolve (LAN!).
- A better weather-control-device. Really, the WCD you used this time sucked :-)

I still dont understand the format that well, but who cares when each game casted is of the best foreign and korean players in the world! A few stream issues and in-game lag for the players, nothing dramatically overwhelming though. 'Super Awesome' event and I cant wait for the next one. :D

The question is wrong.

Its a very general question and is far from wrong.

I had a lot of trouble with the stream. Lost the ending in about three games in a row, two of them being with IdrA so that pissed me off. Sure if you could just refresh the page quickly to get it back up, but then you'd spend even more time watching commercials _AGAIN_.

Other than the technical side I loved it. Seeing Tasteosis was fun too, since they're the best casters IMO. And the drama, oh the drama!

It would been perfect with stable streaming and also a better usage of 2 stream but in general it was so great.

The last 4 series was amazing

The map clips are a little long. Anybody else notice that the shakuras plateau map clip had one little thing wrong with it? Maybe my eyes tricked me, but I'd swear it mixed the 5 and 7 o'clock positions. I'm not saying this is anything big, obviously it isn't.. but it's just the little things that mlg can improve on that would make it the biggest worldwide powerhouse for pro gaming events.

My stream kept going down, which would require me to refresh and sit through another bing commercial /wrists.

Great event though can't wait for the next and I hope he get a better performance out of the non Koreans!

Both red and blue stream used to lag for no particular reason at times, but overall MLG Columbus was plain awesome :>.

Competition level was better than you could hope or ask for. Stream reliability was way better than Dallas, but still good have a bit of room for improvement. I didn't have any buffering issues that weren't because of my net connection, however, there was times where the screen would go all funky, change colors, and have overlapping/repeating images. My major complaints about the tournament are that 1. Day[9] and Tasteless didn't even cast one game together, and 2. VODs is what I've always found lacking at MLG, and if they improved VOD quality it would be a far superior tournament to any others. Right now not only are VODs slow to be uploaded, taking sometimes even till 2-3 days after the championship day, but they are incomplete often missing many key matches, and the ones that are uploaded are cut poorly so you have to wait from 5 to 25 minutes into the VOD for a match to start (you also can't seek). Ideally VODs would come up 10-15 minutes after the match went live, this would make it far easier to watch both streams - I found myself flipping a coin to choose which to watch several times because both sets of matches were just so good. Overall it was not a bad tournament, but I still feel much room for improvement can come to the presentation and availability of the matches. Match quality and player skill was top notch though.

Some of the matchups were a let down like Naniwa/MC and MC/Idra in their 2nd meeting.

I would say "Super awesome".
It wasn't perfect, the stream failed a few times. They did not show Thorzain vs. MC and they still use the extended series rule.
But it was without a doubt one of the best SC2 Tournaments i have seen so far.
Can't wait for the next MLG.

I just wanted to thank everyone who tuned in to and attended MLG Columbus 2011 for helping us create an amazing event.

This weekend was a HUGE step in the right direction but we're not done. There's still room for improvement and I promise all of you that we will work to get better. I'm proud of my team and the work that was done this weekend but we're not satisfied. We will continue to improve. We will continue to work towards our vision and will work to make MLG all that it can and should be.

We're just getting started.

Clearly even Sundance thinks there is room for improvement. I'm quite sure you could figure it out on your own. Streams were 100 times better than Dallas but still had a little choppiness here and there.

I remember listening to some predictions from some Pros (Tyler, Lz, Machine...) stating that the Koreans would not be as dominant as in BW and they were overrated. Well I'm guessing having 3 out of 5 being Top 3 and the two that didn't place better were eliminated by Koreans themselves, the "problem" going forward is the skill level of the players, not the event itself.

Also, even though I understand that taunts and grudges between players have great entertainment potential, MLG (and GSL for that matter) should implement some sort of fair play and respect regulations. If e-Sports is to grow up to be a respectable and legitimate cultural activity, values like that should be a must. In my eyes, manner MULEs or CC/Nexus/Hatch, pre-match taunts and after-match exuberant celebrations don't contribute to the image of e-Sports arround the world.

Anyway, there were some stream hickups and lack of chairs in the event, so there's definitely room for improvement.

being there was awesome great matches
all the top level pros are really approachable and spend times in the crowds

problems:
lack of chairs, alot of standing all day long 12+ hours
match setup times took forever on the main stage 1+ hour from announcement to game play

Only way to be perfect is to be OFFline, not just sitting next to eachother.

If that was in place and there was full on LAN, perfect event hands down.

Sadly there is still that river to cross.

It's pretty much perfect. All that sucks is the time for Europeans to watch it (18:00 to 06:00 in the morning), but obviously it's hard and sometimes impossible to make it good for everyone in that regards.

Super awesome for me! IdrA vs MC rematch was dissapointing though.

Stream was good. Loved the casters the only noticable difference between high and low quality was that HQ lagged horribly.

Closer to perfect than not, so i voted for that. I didn't have a lot of the lag or video problesm that everyone else seemed to have, so I'm fairly content.

Great job with the event. Streams were stable and the casters were spectacular. I still can not stand the extended series rule, but I guess that's kicking a dead horse. Nice job MLG! ^___^

what could they possibly improve?

Production. The fact that there was so much down-time between matches suggests something is lacking in the efficiency department. A large variety of options exists:

-Employ a caster ability to tune into the games of other matches during in-between time, even if not to commentate. Have a banner at the top of the screen indicating it's an "in between matches" screening and that it could switch at any moment.

-Add interesting graphics akin to those that appear during ESPN broadcasts during downtime, perhaps with the inclusion of the casters' voices (again similar to say a futbol or football game on TV)

-Have a cameraman walking through the crowd that the main stream can switch to at any moment - combined with headset communication and coordination, casters could stream questions to the audience via this field-cameraman in the crowd and get closeups of the people answering in the audience. I see a lot of potential here for interesting/fun shenanigans.

Basically, with a little creative thought, a great variety of possible improvements exists. We'll see at the next MLG.

p.s. also there could be more seats at the next MLG, according to people that were there live

The free stream was nearly unwatchable for me -- it kept lagging and rewinding every few minutes, especially during the crucial moments leading up to a gg or right when the players made interesting comments in the interviews. I guess the weather breaking the stream wasn't MLG's fault, so we'll have to see if Anaheim can provide a more stable and enjoyable viewing experience -- chances are, the weather in sunny SoCal will not provide an obstacle.

Stream aside, the casting and the quality of competition were excellent; I like the format (extended series are OK I guess, but double elimination is great at ensuring the best players rise to the top), and my other complaints are mostly with certain players basically throwing away games, not with the tournament itself.

With regard to stream quality, I think the majority of the annoyances were due to issues on your end. I only experienced a single hour during which the streams were choppy due to weather issues - other than that I was able to view in HQ at a perfectly consistent rate.

I think this weekend was outstanding,

Nobody likes to call anything perfect, but as far as live events and streamed live events go, I think expecting much more than this (At least as an online-viewer) is asking a bit much.

Minor complaints about the streams being shuffled around at times, and it kinda sucked for the downtimes that still existed, but they were so much less frequent, I think people complaining about watching the crowd for 5-10 minutes are forgetting waiting for B.net for 3-4 hours for the finals, or casters having to fill several minutes between each match because there wasn't another match they could jump in on mid-way.

Bringing the Koreans over seemed odd if you listen to SotG, there were a lot of valid concerns, but I think it really mixed it up in a good way.

I loved IdrA this event? Wait... what did I just say? He showed us an outstanding new side in terms of SC2 play in the opening matches against MC, and totally played up the rivalry/confidence right before the finals - made for a lot of sweet .gifs and videos for youtube I'm sure.

Some of the stream connectivity issues could be better... but not much can always be done about that. Also it sounds like they need more chairs? If those are the only complaints you can make of a live event, I'd call it perfect. If MLG improved some things, I'd love it, but I think expecting more than this as a baseline is hard, the Starcraft community is awesome, but woefully cynical, and I think it is important to keep that in mind in these threads.

Extended series is stupid. HQ stream is in really bad quality. Production is lacking overall compared to DHI or GSL. We didn't get to see rematch of Thorzain vs MC (stupid extended series as well) even though Tastosis had nothing to cast at the time, instead we got to wait and watch a ZvZ from the same round later on...

All it needs to improve in is:

  • Better transitions!
  • Never ever leave the screen to show just black for over 1 second!
  • Player reactions exactly after the gg!
  • BETTER CASTERS!!!!! THEY ALL SUCKED!!!!

+ Show Spoiler +
I am off course just jocking about the casters!
By far the best casting team ever assembled for a tournament! Tastosis+DjWheat+Day9=total awesomeness!

Other than that it was by far the best SC2 tournament to date and the closest to a real GLOBAL StarLeague. NASL is the only other competition which comes close to MLG being a real GLOBAL StarLeague.

Koreans made it worthwhile... oh and Idra! Actually, it was great to have the interaction between Idra - MC... it just added some real hype!!!! thanks MC and Idra... I still don't like the format... the extended series issue and Bo3... esp when you consider the Loser's final was between two players who hadn't met before, it would have been much better to up the anty for those games... Bo5 for sure!

Player lag was an issue as far as I could see. As far as most everything else it was really nice but I'm concerned about lag affecting an event to a point as the matches aren't truly representative of skill. I know about all the "the lag was the same for everyone" but that is some true BS. Just one hickup at the wrong specific time can really screw you over. Plus different races and playstyles are differently affected by lag. It seems the events who provide lag-free games of quite regularity and reliability are GSL and Dreamhack. Maybe a few others but those are what comes to mind.

I haven't played SC2 or BW competitevily but I have played CS and latency and different aspects really can spoil events and important games.

edit: Oh yeah, the 30% increase in volume for the commercials was really really annoying.

Accidentally hit perfect event.. I meant to click Super Awesome lol. I think they had some room for improvement. I would like to see a intro video before matches. Little lag but it's not MLG's fault. They definitely stepped it up from last season.

Also the extended series was kind of dumb.

MLG Columbus Tournament Review

Here are some things that went well.

-Easy entrance into the event. I brought my backpack with snacks each day without any hassle.
-Great sponsor in Dr. Pepper. I enjoyed the free drinks throughout the event.
-The main stage alternated casters at a good rate.
-Exciting match-ups!

Here are some suggestions for the next event.

-More chairs! Due to the crowd at Columbus MLG will hopefully plan for more space. At the finals all three main stage areas showing the games were packed.
-Move the booths so they don't block the screen. The left booth blocked the minimap if you were not at the right angle.
-Another viewing area for the second stream, perhaps another main stage.
-It would have been great to see the casters pop their heads out to say hello every once in awhile.
-Plan ahead for upcoming matches. They did a good job but we missed a great best of 7 starting by only a few minutes. We then waited for over an hour without anything except replays cast on the main screen.
What really matters is how this game and this community and how people around us have impacted us and shared our passions and let us know that it is worth-while going 100% in anything you believe in no matter what other people say. -TEDx Starcraft Event

Great event, really enjoyed being able to watch the HQ stream all 3 days. I'll definitely be paying to support e-sports during the next MLG. I do have one issue with the commercials though, they were really loud and really messed with my viewing because after every few matches there would be a really loud and annoying commercial. If you could let us control the sound of the commercials that would be really great.

All in all, great tournament. Keep up the great work.

Yes was a great experience..
The commercials messed my viewing as well i mean it was like 3 in the morning and i couldn`t reduce sound so it was like super loud for 1 minute until i managed to shut of power for my speakers ^^ next time better adjust sound settings in windows not in the MLG player...

dont get me wrong i love that commercials seem to be a factor in E-SPORT. But one suggestion -more commercials for games and shit
-less get real

Extended series was my only complaint. More games in the finals would have been better. But well done SC2!

Great event, hardly perfect. Not super awesome but since it was much better than not bad super awesome gets my vote.
The event seems to mirror the skill level overall in sc2 progaming. Its getting better. Much to improve.

I would say the worst thing isnt the event fault, its blizzard. Would the ingame lag be prevented by lan settings and not being connected to b-net?
I mean, if it is a grand final and there is lag..... WTF blizzard/activision. Make it happen. NOW

The only reason I didn't vote "perfect" was because the event needed more chairs!!

It was amazing to see how huge of a crowd sc2 drew. I had to go on numerous chair-stealing missions because there were about 30% less chairs than there needed to be. The energy was incredible, seeing all the professionals live was almost surreal. It was clearly the main event of MLG. Starcraft 2 had more fans than halo and call of duty combined.

Suggestions for improvement in future events:

1.) spawn moar chairs

2.) Perhaps have a stream of each players screen on either side of the main observer screen so we can see the game from their point of view. This would greatly improve the enjoyment of viewership. Not only can we see the game from the casters point of view, we can actually see them macro.

Personally I think the event is getting very high ratings from people who were there or because of last time. It sounded like for the people who were they it was amazing. But I feel like for online it was okish, but is getting better reviews because of the comparison with the trainwreck at dallas.

Voted not bad, but if there was an option between super awesome and not bad would have probably gone with that. Lots of room for improvement though.

Not bad... because:

the final games were impissible to watch if you're european and working on monday.
the stream had weird bugs. it would buffer for some seconds, then repeat the last 20 seconds and when it reached the point of buffering again catch up to realtime.
that means I missed 20seconds every 5minutes or so.

everything else seemed very nice, and there were good matches too.

Only thing that i didnt like about MLG was that almost every game series was only bo3. Semifinal between MC and losira should be atleast bo5.

Great atmosphere, best casting one could hope for, MMA/July/MC are all awesome.

vs

Shit format - well documented extended series problems and quarter/semi/finals are just way too short.
Low quality takes up too much bandwidth - it's not better quality than 240p but I can watch 240p without hiccups, fix bandwidth amount or give super low quality option
Scheduling is still an issue - too much deadtime/bad choice of games to show. I know it's not easy but it still sucks!

Overall I gave a not bad.

I only tuned in to watch the semifinals and finals (MC vs Losira match 2 was terrifying for me, as a Zerg player), and I liked what I saw. Connection issues cropped up here and there, but only for a second at most, and they didn't disrupt the game too much.

Wasn't the biggest fan of Losira's performance in the finals, though. Least epic series of games I've ever seen.

25k divided between 5 players on the winning team = 5k each. But yeah, an increase in prize pool would be nice. I'm fine with just having a high quality production, casters and games for now.

Columbus was miles better than Dallas, and I voted super awesome since there's still stuff to improve, but definately a very solid production this time around. Keep on improving, MLG!

I thought the games were great, but the event could definitely have been better run. They had maybe a tenth as many chairs as they needed, and the booths were overlapping the projector so that if you were watching from any angle they blocked part of the screen (if you were watching from the left you couldn't see the minimap). If you sat on the floor a big guy in a yellow jersey kept yelling at you to move because you were creating a fire hazard and telling you to sit in one of the "many available chairs." There weren't any empty chairs. Most of the floor staff were just real assholes (the guy at the gum booth). I think the casters should have been sitting where we could see them, instead of in back. Like how GSL has them in front of the projector (I think... never been to Korea). Also, SC should have been in the middle, inside of on the left side... it was much more crowded/popular than Halo, but had less seats and room to spectate. All-in-all it was great starcraft, but the way it was run just made it an unpleasant experience for a spectator (sitting on the floor for hours in a row is just awful!)

So hopefully these things are improved, because I plan on going to Providence :3.

much better, LOVED the booths, two streams were awesome, good casters, and I like the ease that you can change the streams

commercials were a bit loud. still a bit of lag on the stream that would be nice if it cleared up. other than those two things, no big complaints here.

I enjoyed it, the games were great and everyone loved the MC / Idra drama. I don't like the extended series but that did make the MC Idra match all the more epic. My biggest criticism would be the horrible lag on the streams. We missed complete games at times and we had to keep reloading the stream every time it would skip back in time (that was a sign it was locking up). I really enjoyed the casters, I don't get a chance to hear "Tasteosis" much but they do a great job along with Day9 and DJ Wheat as always.

It could have been perfect if there weren't the lag issues, and yes I am aware that is not MLG's fault.

The only game I was able to watch during the whole event was game 1 of Slog vs Morrow, and even then it started to cut out when the banelings started to fly everywhere (Talk about anti-han timing amirite?). Then I was able to watch a small portion of game 2. Every other time I checked up on the stream it was either black w/ MLG logo or a part where the commentators are just talking (And then cuts out very quickly).

I wouldn't mind shit like that too much if MLG's VOD system was in any shape way or form competent but it's worse than Blip's new format, which is saying something.

I voted 'Dallas Repeat', even though I had less problems while watching that MLG.

I wouldn't say it was perfect but it was pretty close to being so. One thing is for sure, it was a massive improvement over the last MLG so mission accomplished.

It was incredibly awesome attending the event, but there was still definitely room for improvement. A few things that come to mind

1.) MORE CHAIRS. Hell, for the finals they played sc2 on the Halo and CoD stages (which had already finished) and even those chairs all filled up as well (and I believe there were still people that had to stand. I could be mistaken on that part though)

2.) Lag issues. While I understand MLG can only do so much since Blizzard is being stubborn about releasing LAN (Sundance should really start pressuring Blizzard about it). The amount of lag was definitely unacceptable. Overall, it didn't really harm the event too much though (but it definitely knocked it down a few notches from being "Perfect")

3.) Downtime. While I understand there's a lot going on behind the scenes, they should really work on making sure there's no more than 5-10 minutes of downtime between each series (Maybe one 30 minute long break to allow casters to grab food and relax)

4.) Commentating. The commentators need to be on the main stage. It was very disappointing that they had an "interviewing couch" on the main stage where they could have easily put the casters. It's much better for the crowd when they can see the casters in person. Conversely, casters feed off the energy of the crowd a lot more when they're right there in front of them.

As an aside, I think it would be really neat if they had a screen on the main stage for each player that showed the game from their first person point of view. While not really necessary, I think it would have been a really cool addition.

Either way, despite all these issues, MLG Columbus was by far the best MLG and being part of the crowd and the energy was amazing. Four years ago I would have never thought I would see July in person, let alone be around thousands of starcraft fans who were all erupting in cheers whenever there was action going on. MLG Columbus far exceeded my expectations and I will definitely be going again next year.

How could this event have been perfect when Starcraft 2 wasn't on the main stage?!

It was really good. Well done, I'm glad that MLG took this big step in investing more into SC2, as far from what I've read around it did pay off for them too, so it's good.

I hope they keep this bar rising for future MLGs and they will receive the support of the SC2 community for sure.

This was my first time going to any Starcraft lan event in person and I just have to say it honestly feels like your at a rock concert. Both pros and cons to that but the cons arent terrible. Like overcrowded main stage...i was literally standing behind the seated section on the main stage all 3 days, so that sucked. But with that said the crowd cheering when Idra holds off an attack and things like that really make an event like this extremely enjoyable. I believe MLG did an amazing job this time around, but I think the spectators and players are what made this event spectacular!

i like it and think it was also a HELP for the other player like MC,
cause it was not able for idra to play his 2 best maps again

this longer series makes you play more maps and not this "i cant beat z on this map i have no chance to beat this guy" style anymore

i just LOVE extend series ^^ but the final should be bo5 xD

Good tournament overall. But definitely not perfect.
Things to improve upon:
Remove extended series. It might work for Halo but it is a stupid system to use in SC2
More chairs! The SC2 crowd is huge and will only get bigger.
Increase the in-game quality.

No lag issues on the stream for me (apart from when there was a storm in Columbus but that couldn't be helped) and the casting and the format was awesome. I loved the double stream too.

Only 1 minor thing i didn't like, extended series, but that was a really really small spanner in the works of an amazingly well-run event. Oh and i barely got an ad all weekend, maybe it's because I'm not from the US idk

An amazing event! I had 3 streams running HD all weekend. Both SC which were the same most of the time but when they weren't, it was AWESOME!!! Also watched Halo, even though SC2 was my favorite the headshots are always fun (Black Ops is ahhh doesn't really interest me). Plus the free HD is a plus. Extended series is actually fine for me. You can't just say I lost 2-0 to this guy but that doesn't matter. It's also a chance at more games! Always a plus! Hoping for an even better Anaheim maybe the first American winner of the year?!! Perfect event in the future!!!

Great event overall, and definitely a vast improvement from Dallas. Theres still a few things that could be ameliorated (i.e. no adds when switching stream quality, preferably remove extended series, more chairs for public etc.) But overall, i thoroughly enjoyed this MLG and absolutely loved the double stream feature. "Super awesome".

Overall great event. A few things that would have made it much better for me as an online viewer were:
1) Commercials - I know they are needed, but having planned breaks for them in between matches, rather than just anytime a stream was loaded, would make them much nice to sit through. Also volume control so its not super loud compared to the stream itself.

2) Lag- Not sure if this is my connection or an issue with MLG. Stream would constantly jump back 15-20 seconds or pause and have to reload for a couple seconds. Not really too annoying except when it was right as some big push or drop was about to happen. Issues from weather sucked, but no real way to avoid that.

3) Extended Series- I really dislike this format. If the players/tournament coordinators like it though it works. It just seems like something MLG is doing to be gimmicky and different than other tournaments.

Just my 2 cents, and glad I can look forward to the next one after Dallas had shattered my faith in MLGs (and had me expecting this one to suck too).

not an important enough event to be perfect. Also, ref -> player interaction issues. Fair amount of dead time on streams too. Got an awesome vote though.

like a bunch of other people were saying chairs were the only major problem.

that and the security, at the convention center, were kicking people out when we were talking with some of the casters or something after the games..i don't know if MLG is to blame, but yea..bad

Because the casters take so many breaks, it might make more sense to just have one single stream, and stagger the casters so that there's uninterrupted match coverage. With Columbus, more often than not, only one of the two streams was active at any given time. And there were frequent occasions where both casting teams were taking breaks. If both teams have to be out, you can still show matches and just have a message at the bottom of the screen saying "day9 & wheat will be back shortly!'

Wasn't really looking for a perfect event. That would make their new standard a little too high to maintain. But this MLG certainly was heads and shoulders above previous ones. I just wish there was another non-Korean superstar other than Idra that would play so strongly. Its a lot to ask for but there are a few very talented names that could do that on a good day.

loved it, im sure that everyone else loved it as much as i did. i do love how the yhad the free HQ stream and i read a tweat from sundance saying that he had a idea of how to get the free hq stream for all the mlgs. That would be absolutely amazing and i would lovie sundance with all my heart forever and ever if he figured out how to do that.

The only issues i had was with some of the lag ans stream skipping. It almost was like they woild rewind the stream a little bit and then start to play it again. I dont know what that was about but it was manageable. there also were times when i couldnt watch the HQ stream because it kept going to the mlg sign like it was 'loading' or buffering or something. BUT other then that i didnt have any problems.

GREAT JOB GUYS KEEP IT UP I WISH I COULD HAVE GONE BUT I HAD MY BROS GRADUATION ( SC2 is more important then his graduation.. to me at least!

Pretty sweet, especially IdrA vs. MC, but sometimes it got a little choppy on my end. The casters were also awesome, i totally approve of flying in Tastosis

Rarely is anything perfect. It was fucking awesome, though. Why isn't that an option?

Disappointing, because we had to pay for stream.

It was excellent! There was a little bit of stream lag, but I'm only saying that to be nitpicky. For a free stream running an entire weekend, it was very well organized.

This kind of event is what e-sports need to keep flourishing in the West.

Hats off to the organizers!

Some room for improvement but not very much as it was very well done compared to Dallas ^^

Near perfect - MLG needs to work on smoothing out production and the website. Content, though, was flawless.

All the games played were amazing. Obviously there are always things that can be changed, but they are getting better with every event.

Except that the Koreans owned the event it was nice. I didnt watch the Final and I have no interest in games not involving foreigners.

I gave the 'Perfect Event' vote. I know that things weren't perfect. But MLG Columbus was such amazing event that it will very hard for anyone top it.

Besides comparing to Dallas, Columbus was perfect! ^^

The only thing i didn't like about the event was during the warmup time for players in the open bracket the connection to Bnet only worked on like half the computers and I had to warm up on the alien ware comps. I know there will be some problems but, that was my only complaint the rest was @#$%ing Golden :D
I was so messed up, I did a line out of a strippers grak....

Great players, great casters, good format. One problem though: the VODs. There is no way to watch them in the proper order and without spoilers.

It was the perfect event if you were actually there.

Somewhere between "not bad" and "super awesome." I would say "good."
