The elimination bracket is a Ro32 and will likely stay that way, no? Assuming TL keeps the weekend schedule (which is brilliant) that gives us: 2 weeks for Ro32 (Sat/Sun x4 matches each) 2 weeks for Ro16 (Sat/Sun x2 matches each) 1 week for Ro8 (Sat/Sun x2 matches each) 1 week for Ro4 (Sat/Sun x1 match each) 1 week for Grand Final/3rd place (Sat/Sun x1 match each) This is 7 weeks minimum to run the actual tournament. Assuming that we keep the same format, we have: 16 seeds/invites* 8 qualifier winners 8 qualifiers on points This adds 8 more weeks of qualifiers, assuming they run one a week. (It would be possible to run more than one at a time of course but that's going to screw things up I think.) So the point is, we're talking a minimum of four months to run a TSL. That limits the TSL to a max of three seasons a year (similar to the MSL/OSL). Practically, it limits it to two seasons a year given staffing, sorting invites, scheduling, etc. TSL has been running a little less than once a year so far. I think the optimal idea is to continue the TSL as a "yearly" tournament and in fact make that the official position. I'm not inherently opposed to two seasons a year, though more is just a really bad idea - but I'm in favor of limiting the occurences. * And here's the note. I think that it would make more sense to seed 4, and then invites should be top performers from other tourneys (GSL, MLG IPL, NASL, Dreamhack, etc. depending on which events develop as most prestigious). I mean, 12 invites (or the 13 we now have) seems like a lot, but if you have top 3 GSL invited, top 3 MLG or IPL, top 3 Dreamhack, or whatever, that's completely a legit field. | ||
