Nice article! It's good to have some BW love with so much SC2 coverage out there.
The best thing on my day is when I get home from work, turn on the PC and it's like 15min to start SPL rebroadcast by Sayle!

Thanks for that Sayle, I can't watch SPL on regular times (original cast), so I wait the whole day so that I can watch it with your commentaries.

Interesting write up!
Also it would be nice to see a second caster coming to cast with Sayle. It's always nice to have casters sharing point of views predictions and analyses

LOL SAYLE I LOVE YOU!

Sayle: if KT stops putting in bad players like Stats and Flash and starts playing Reach, they might have a chance.

Keep FlaSh and Stats in, but put in Reach instead of Mind or CH. :D

The complaints about the new format are ridiculous:

"In past seasons, fans could expect to see at least one good match per series. Unless a sniper was planned in advance, S class players like Jaedong and Flash would inevitably play in the [ACE] set."
Between the map dictating what race a team sends and attempted snipings, showdowns between top players in ace matches are pretty rare. Nothing like great vs ggaemo to determine who is the better team!

"In many ways it was the ideal format – it had enough room for a variety of players as well as the S-class battles only an ACE match can produce."
If Bo7 didn't take so long I might agree with this.

"No ace matches is still a huge bummer to me. It added a depth of strategy within proleague games that allowed coaches and sniper players outsmart the other."
And there's plenty of strategy in sets that are not ACE matches!

"I think it's reasonable to think that players like Flash, Jaedong, Stork, and Baby will have an easier time preparing (SKT and CJ have such a deep roster that the stress level should be comparatively lower)."
Which means that players won't get burnt out and we'll see higher quality games as well as better performances in the OSL!

"Less games means that (1) newer players have fewer opportunities to play in Proleague..."
This is repeated a lot, but the difference between Bo7 with ace matches and Bo5 without in terms of players you send is only 1 (6 vs 5). 5 lineup spots is large enough that newer players still have an opportunity to play on most teams (ie not Team8 and CJ), we'll just being seeing them less (which is fine) but we've already seen a lot of "bench" players get opportunities to play this year.
"But because of this increased value placed on each match, the teams will be pressured to send out stronger players on average than had the format remained at 7 games."
Which would maybe suck if every team was like Team8 and CJ, but seeing as most teams only have a clear top 3 players at most this is fine. STX, Khan, ACE, KT, and Stars have all sent out players diverse enough for my liking.

And then you guys go on about how much you love ace matches and how the format isn't entertaining without it. From my POV, yes, you are getting old - the new PL format is fine (actually, it's better than fine - Bo5 w/out ACE is my favorite format ever).

Man, way to rub it in. I was on a lucky streak, never claimed otherwise.

Thx for this!

Also, Sayle kind of sounds like Klazart, which is only one of the reasons why he is so awesome :D
"To all eSports fans, I want to be remembered as a progamer who can make something out of nothing, and someone who always does his best. I think that is the right way of living, and I'm always doing my best to follow that." - Jaedong. /watch?v=jfghAzJqAp0

Great read guys, well done.

Particularly liked the Sayle interview. I listen to the Koreans typically, but I was impressed with Sayle's commentary while watching some of the recent Clan Wars footage.
