Greetings and welcome to International Tournament Roundup! Sick of wading through countless threads, posts, and articles looking for recent SC2 tournament results? The TeamLiquid International Tournament Roundup is the one-stop shop for all of your tournament result needs, and it's coming to you twice each and every month.

Don't be fooled, the GSL is great, but there's a massive amount of talent outside of Korea. These international juggernauts are battling it out in epic games, and in epic tournaments, on a daily basis. After all, these monsters have more than proven that they can compete.

Who's the current top dog outside of Korea?

Please note that if an event is not listed, it is likely because it either didn't make the prizemoney cutoff, or results were simply not properly recorded in public view by tournament administration. Don't blame me, blame the event admins. I can't do their job for them. Thanks!

Top Dog

There's a ton of powerhouses in the international scene, but who's this edition's top dog? Let's take a look at which players have posted the most impressive results over the past 2 weeks.

Note: This isn't a simple prize-money or medals ranking. It is based upon a combination of overall player performance, quality of competition, significance of events won, money won, activity, and my most sincere attempt at unbiased subjectivity. It only considers performances in events which concluded within this period.

+ Show Spoiler [Honorable Mentions] +
[image loading]
(Z)XiGua !!

If you didn't happen to catch the Chinese Blizzcon regional qualifiers, it certainly was an interesting glimpse into the Chinese scene. Out of the fray of this event came (Z)XiGua, a player who's name you may soon identify as a serious player in the international scene. Luckily, we'll get to see more of him in mid-October at Blizzcon, and perhaps he can show the world that the Chinese SC2 scene is still as powerful as it was in Brood War.

Total Prizewinnings: ~$10,000 USD

(T)GoOdy !!

Rumor has it that if you listed the achievements of (T)GoOdy in a line, it'd wrap around the world. Twice. Maybe that's a slight exaggeration, but this past couple weeks he managed to yet again add to his massive compilation, placing 2nd in the XMG Cup Final, and 1st in the Pokerstrategy Community Cup, a Gigabyte Cup, and a Zotac Cup.

Total Prizewinnings: ~$1,435 USD (+Prizes)

(Z)Stephano !!

The wrecking ball continued on his path of destruction, once again proving he's here to stay, and his ELO dominance isn't just a fluke. The young French prodigy showed excellent results in taking 2nd in the Gigabyte Cup Final, 3rd in the Sennheiser Cup Final, and 1st in the MSI Pro Cup. Additionally, despite being eliminated in groups, he ran up an even score at IEM in a group consisting of eventual champion (T)PuMa and 3rd placing (P)MaNa.

Total Prizewinnings: ~$2,530 USD (+Prizes)

(T)Kas !!

Europe's resident monster-Terran showed up in force, placing 2nd in the Gigabyte Cup Final, 2nd in the MSI Pro Cup, and tied for 5th at IEM. He additionally took down the always underrated
(T)Beastyqt in an excellent showmatch series. While he didn't manage to take home any golds, (T)Kas raked in a ton of cash in the solid performances he has become well known for. This isn't all though, in perhaps the most under-covered yet biggest Showmatch KotH event to date,
(T)Kas slammed his way through the likes of (Z)Stephano, (Z)mOOnGLaDe, and GSL superstar (P)MC in $1,000 games at Gamescom. The always beastly Ukrainian powerhouse has proven that he hasn't fallen off as one of Europe's premiere Terran players.

Total Prizewinnings: ~$5,545 USD (+Prizes)

[image loading] Third
+ Show Spoiler [Third] +
[image loading]
(Z)DIMAGA !!

When he's not busy running around and winning massive LAN events, he's perhaps the scariest online cup player there is. (Z)DIMAGA crushed a Gamecreds Cup, a Xilence Cup, a Close Combat Cup, and the Gigabyte Cup Final. He also placed 2nd in the Eset Summer Masters, an event in which he qualified for via (you guessed it) an online cup.

Total Prizewinnings: ~$1,830 USD (+Prizes)

[image loading] Runner-Up

(P)MaNa !!

Many of us have known him since the Brood War days, but seriously, what is this kid on?! A switch seems to have gone off in the brain of the Polish Mousesports player, turning him from an amazing player into an absolute wrecking machine. (P)MaNa stormed through the Eset Summer Master's event taking out huge names such as (P)White-Ra, (T)GoOdy, (T)Tarson, and
(Z)DIMAGA, only dropping a single game in one BO5. More impressively, he was the highest placing non-korean player at IEM, taking 3rd place while impressively defeating (Z)mOOnGLaDe(3-1), (P)SaSe(2-0), (Z)Stephano(2-1) and eventual Champion (T)PuMa(2-0) on his warpath.

Total Prizewinnings: ~$3,186 USD (+Prizes)

[image loading] Top Dog
+ Show Spoiler [The Top Dog] +
[image loading]
(T)PuMa !!

That's right, a Korean. In accordance with the evolving SC2 scene, it's time that the standards of the roundup change as well. Korean players on predominantly Non-Korean teams are now eligible for this ranking. With this, we have (T)PuMa: EG Member, IEM Champion, and MLG 5th place finisher. He 5-0'ed his terrifying group at MLG, and 3-0'ed (P)Socke, (Z)Nerchio, and
(P)MC on his path to the gold at IEM, a truly impressive run in the two largest recent events.
(T)PuMa and other Korean players, such as (P)HerO and (T)Rain, have begun to join international teams and are now a true members of the international scene. These results speak for themselves, and they cannot be denied, because let's face it: (T)PuMa is one of us, and he's the Top Dog!

Total Prizewinnings: ~$7,500 USD

Medal Podium

Yeah Nerchio must have been busy or something, I didn't see his name much of anywhere... And I can only assume that's due to lack of participation, because lack of results isn't really something he's capable of, haha.

Again you got the wrong Master for SC2SEA Master's Cup #7. If it's that New Zealand MaSteR (who is inactive to play poker atm) it will always be nGenMaSteR, xGKingMaSteR or Soft.

If it just says Master then it's SoulmanfOu the Korean Protoss, as it is in this case!

lol, damnit again. Need to get that alias added to TLPD. I always assume it's the nGenMaSteR since it's a SEA cup. Thanks again.

Yeah Nerchio must have been busy or something, I didn't see his name much of anywhere... And I can only assume that's due to lack of participation, because lack of results isn't really something he's capable of, haha.

Yeah, lol he was busy winning the TL open XD

Nice to see Kas back, though its only in the honorable mentions, he is back on track! Also the fact that DIMAGA is performing so well is very nice. Thanks for the write-up!
With an average game length of 7m36s over his 6 games in GSL3, this is a no-brainer. BitByBit pulls more SCVs than yo momma at a club on Mar Sara. ♞

Hrm, apparently they changed the pool at some point then. Thanks for the info.

And if anyone can confirm what exactly happened with this it'd be great.

Yeah these are really great, when I see a player preform bad in the highest mainstream tournament going on at the time I always worry about them, but then I usually see great results from them in these so it reassures me.

Excellent, I am now completely caught up, thanks!

Good to see Dimaga and Mana in the list, hadn't been keeping up as well with the European scene of late as I should have. Too much GSL

Looking forward to the next edition.

So if Puma counts because of his team, does that mean Fenix is no longer a foreigner and has joined the ranks of Koreans? Or should we just accept the fact that Koreans and others are mixing a lot more than in BW and not make this distinction. Wouldn't it be easier to just make the tournament roundup everything except GSL?

Trust me when I say it's been thought about a lot. Without getting too deep into it, this was the best solution. Doing everything but Gom Events still creates an issue where it's very difficult to accurately compare the performances of international players to Koreans on Korean teams who swoop in on international events. Essentially, it'd disallow the highlighting of strong international players, as the roundup intends. Players such as Rain, Puma, and HerO have crossed into the realm of being consdiered 'international' with the joining of predominantly non-korean teams.

It's so cool if you compare the price money of the first Round Ups (10k) with now (between 50k and 100k).

"Rumor has it that if you listed the achievements of GoOdy in a line, it'd wrap around the world. Twice."

Since Feb.2011: 22 Gold, 11 Silver, 2 Bronze. Impressive, but not impressive enough to get an invite to NASL 2.

I am always curious why Goody is forever in honorable mention. He wins A LOT of events, he may be the most consistent person on the roundup since it started. He is always piling on the gold and doesn't seem to get much recognition. I think I've only seen him in top dogs once or twice, considering he wins so much. But man I can never find any replays of him, I really want to learn his style but with such limited info it's hard.

Is it possible to start having the tournaments also broken down into a summary of the podium with respect to race?

Such as:

T) 1st 2nd 3rd
P) 1st 2nd 3rd
Z) 1st 2nd 3rd

I am always curious when I read this thread about that myth of "Terran is dominating in Korea", but I have to dig through each of the spoiler tabs to find the info I want.

Good start for Goody in the next Roundup-Season (may I call it like that?)!
It's not that much money, but it's still a gold medal in a tournament with players like Sjow, Haypro!

Goody is notorious for going mech every game. His style is very turtle-ish where he will just build up a mech force on 2-3 base and then slow push his way into a contain on the oponent. It's a style that's quite predictable but it gives him great results (Also, it's funny to see goody chill at 120 apm while the oponent is blazing around with 200+)

I must say I don't understand what Puma is doing here. Yes, he's in a foreign team but he's not "one of us" as you say in the OP, he was trained in Korea, he's skilled as a top Korean and if you begin to add korean players who attend international events to this ranking, then you have to add all the MVP players (because of CoL-MVP), and actually all those who compete in MLGs, Dreamhacks and other big foreign tourneys.... and you'll have only Koreans in the top-dog section

Still, I love these tournament round-ups, gg for the good work !

While I share your concerns, only Koreans who are in predominantly non-Korean teams are being counted. Koreans on Korean teams who simply attend foreign events, or only attend due to a partnership still do not count. This means that CoL-MVP, Ogs players (partnered with Liquid), and FXOKorea players still do not count. At this point it's essentially just Rain/Puma/HerO/Tandongho, I believe.

Hey, I just wanted to clear this up. SGL Season 3 was supposed to run with 2 divisions, SGL-1 for pro teams and SGL-2 for amateur teams. I took over as the admin for SGL-2, SGL-1 head admin left before it kicked off and it just pretty much fizzled. I ran the rest of division 2 which promised SS gear and have been sent. Sorry about any confusion.
