Greetings and welcome to International Tournament Roundup! Sick of wading through countless threads, posts, and articles looking for recent SC2 tournament results? The TeamLiquid International Tournament Roundup is the one-stop shop for all of your tournament result needs, and it's coming to you twice each and every month.

Don't be fooled, the GSL is great, but there's a massive amount of talent outside of Korea. Foreign juggernauts are battling it out in epic games, and in epic tournaments, on a daily basis. After all, our boys have more than proven that they can compete.

Who's the current top dog outside of Korea?

Please note that if an event is not listed, it is likely because it either didn't make the prizemoney cutoff, or results were simply not properly recorded in public view by tournament administration. Don't blame me, blame the event admins. I can't do their job for them. Thanks!

Top Dog

There's a ton of powerhouses outside of Korea, but who's this edition's top dog? Let's take a look at which players have posted the most impressive results over the past 2 weeks.

Note: This isn't a simple prize-money or medals ranking. It is based upon a combination of overall player performance, quality of competition, significance of events won, money won, activity, and my most sincere attempt at unbiased subjectivity. It only considers performances in events which concluded within this period, and players on Korean teams are ineligible.

+ Show Spoiler [Honorable Mentions] +
[image loading]
(Z)Sen !!

This Taiwanese legend didn't participate in much this past couple weeks, but it happened to be an extremely impressive performance in the largest non-Korean event in SC history. Not only did he manage to do this, he did it in style. He didn't luckily dodge the tough players to make it through the bracket, he destroyed them. Along his path, he took down the ZvZ monster (Z)Zenio, Alive-slayer (Z)DarKFoRcE, and had (P)MC against the ropes in a series that had spectators thinking "Wow, Sen just outplayed MC in 4 out of 5 games, how did he possibly lose?!" After getting knocked out in the RO4, he took the Legendary (Z)July down in the 3rd/4th place match. Afterwards, he played a showmatch against another legendary player in (P)White-Ra, and took him down as well. What an amazing run by an amazing player.

Total Prizewinnings: ~$10,000 USD

(Z)Nerchio !!

Naturally, the Polish powerhouse Zerg appears once again. (Z)Nerchio performed well, but perhaps not up to his normal standard, taking 'only' 3 medals this time around. He won both a Gigabyte Cup and a Zotac Cup, and placed 3rd in TL Open #18, with the distinction of being the highest placing non-Korean player.

Total Prizewinnings: ~$305 USD

(Z)mOOnGLaDe !!

Taking home a bunch of medals this past couple weeks is Australia's premiere player. He won two Go4SC2 SEA Cups, Mwave's SEA invitational, and placed 2nd in a SEA Master's Tournament. While this is an impressive lineup of medals, his wins were only among the limited competition of the SEA server. The players of the SEA server are certainly no joke, but it would be more impressive for him to post results outside of this realm. Despite this, (Z)mOOnGLaDe has certainly once again proved himself as the King of SEA.

Total Prizewinnings: ~$420 USD

[image loading] Third
+ Show Spoiler [Third] +
[image loading]
(T)GoOdy !!

The always-active Panzer General posted his typical strong results this past couple weeks. He smashed through the PolarfluKe tournament, took the runner-up slot in the SK Champion's Trophy and a Gigabyte Cup, and placed 3rd in a Close Combat Cup. In addition to this, he 3-0'ed Complexity's (Z)CatZ in a showmatch event. The tanks keep rolling out and the wins keep rolling in for this consistently excellent beast of a player.

Total Prizewinnings: ~$570 USD

[image loading] Runner-Up
+ Show Spoiler [Runner-Up] +
[image loading]
(T)Kas !!

The Ukrainian Destroyer showed a return to his online gold-hoarding ways for this edition's tournaments. He powered his way to the top of the podium in the newly created XMG Cup, a Gigabyte Cup, and Europe's SK Champion's Trophy. He additionally slew (Z)CatZ in the 'vs. Europe' showmatch series and narrowly escaped victory in the under-covered Intel Challenge SuperCup. What an absolute beast.

Total Prizewinnings: ~$880 USD

[image loading] Top Dog
+ Show Spoiler [The Top Dog] +
[image loading]
(Z)Stephano !!

Holy domination. The 'Wrecking Ball' lived up to his nickname in his recent performances, gathering 4 impressive gold medals. (Z)Stephano proved himself the champion of France by acing both the Medion Trophy tournament, as well as the 'Masters des Jeux Vidéos' tournament. With these wins, he raked in a TON of cash and prizes, supplemented even more by placing 3rd in the LDLC Summer Trophy event, and in winning two Gamecreds Cups. (Z)Stephano has been awfully busy collecting barrels full of medals and cash, and the amount of events he's taken in this short time is quite impressive. One may argue the level of competition in participating in France-based events, but I can assure you that his competition wasn't anything to scoff at in these, nor his online cup wins. It's great to see this talented player assemble such an amazing string of victories, along with this edition's distinction of being the Top Dog!

Total Prizewinnings: ~$7,825 USD

Hey man - awesome write up and an amazing prize money!

The TLPD on MarineKing is showing his BW Protoss race; may want to change that to Terran.

It looks like Stephano is on a great roll; think he won another comp earlier as well. And it seems that Europe owned CatZ :p

I swear, I accidentally list Idra or MKP as their BW races like every single time I release this.

How come moonglade never joined the rest of FXO in Korea? Apparently he's owning up SEA recently.

because he got his ass handed to him the last time he went to korea.

he has so weird results, as long as he plays in any SEA event he's a total beast king of the Hill, pit him against a group from another realm and he ends up somewhere in the midfield.

PS I forgot my mandatory thank you post to milki, this round up is amazing everytime and I love the bonus

How exactly are these calculated? Puma did win 50k, wouldn't that make him the highest?

Anyway good writeup, enjoy reading this !

Wins one torunament - has to be the most consistent and the best palyer in the world?

I think this Round up is about constant prove of your power and not about 1 shotting in the turnament scene (even though he won the qualifier for the finals too.

I my self am a bit confused. I read that SEA hasnt a lot of tournaments and thats why there i no real competition. (in an other thread). Now I read through this and notice to have the same amount or even more of cups than any other server in the world. Sure there are bigger ones in Europe/Korea/Armerica but thats a shitload of tournaments. Hopefully someone will step up and show that SEA can prove to be competitive. (other than moonglade)

As far as the Puma thing, players on Korean teams are currently ineligible for the little ranking thing that I do, as this is meant to showcase talent outside of Korea. This may change in the very near future, as SC is becoming much more globalized. It's a tough call, as it seems wrong to overlook these players, but at the same time I'd rather not have Koreans constantly overshadowing all the top foreign talent that this is intended to showcase.

As far as SEA, they normally don't have this many events packed into such a small space, however there's been more notable events lately. It should also be noted that the SEA community isn't as well-covered as it should be, and many events go un-noticed.

Holly Stephano! This guy is sooo good!

To this Puma thing:
I like it, that there are no koreans in the roundup.
When I wan't to know korean domination, i just watch GS(T)L. But its hard to follow all these EU/US Tournies to see who does well outside of korea.

Ok, since nobody talked about the medion trophy and the master des jeux vidéos finals (it is a final, I'll explain more on that later in this post) .I'll talked a bit about it. I was there but since I was playing in the open tournament (and getting demolished ) I could watch almost no game so I don't believe I have enough to say to create a thread so I'll do it here :

Both of these events took place at the same time in Lille, north of france. Something to note is that the french world cyber games qualifier took place at the same time in Paris so several top french players were not able to enter these tournaments (such as Adelscott and Sarens).

These two tournaments were actually linked, if I recall correctly the first players of the masters were automatically seeded for the medion challenge while the other had to go through an open qualifier.

Another thing to note is that seeding for the masters des jeux vidéos finals was acquired through playing in the master des jeux vidéos circuit, which consisted in several Lan events all other France in the previous months.

As mentionned before I could not catch most of the games so i cannot really talk about them.

More informations there (in french and english) :

So the first entry in this series had total prize pool listed as about 11 grand. It now averages 60 grands for a fifteen day period with this month being extra high at 116 thousand. Thats a pretty steep growth curve

If it wasn't for TL user ElTiozo, I wouldn't even know those events existed.

iNViCiOUZ, that's exactly my feeling as well, but it's going to have to be something that's re-evaluated as the scene changes.

Had I known I would have write right after but since I did not watch much of the tournament and several team were there (Millenium, cybernation, virus...) and wrote reviews at least for their players I though it got bigger coverage than that.

Anyway, I'll be more careful about that If get the chance to attend another event of this kind. (well I know i'll be at gamescom but it will be covered already )

Not exactly. They took place at the same time but WCG qualifiers were in Paris while ESWC qualifiers (master des jeux vidéos finals) and Medion challenge were in Lille.

True he didn't play that great last time he was in Kor but to say he can only beat SEA people is laughable. Just because he has been busy with personal issues/in a bit of a slump etc since IEM does not mean he suddenly got bad

It really depresses me to see the low penetration these (Medion / Masters) had on the international scene. Something has to be noted though, these french events were really really poorly organised : PC stolen, huge delays etc ... So I think it's somewhat better not to hype it up too much as it would be detrimental to the events.

Good to see Stephano wrecking balls. I am sure he doesn't even know his nickname on TL ... So funny !

For those who want to see his playstyle, he will stream on Millenium Tv tonight. No french involved so you can enjoy while being not annoyed by our language.

Nope, it's correct. Puma and Alive received the $500 each from the open tournament, since they agreed to travel to the final 16.

It's not just you. He's consistent beast. The most impressive thing is that past performance outside of each 2 week block isn't even considered in the ranking. He's just that damn consistent at winning online events. He came awfully close to dropping off of it this edition though !

Statistically when a good player is participating in one or 2 cups each day for the last 2 month, he is poised to have success. After that fact, everything is purely speculative.

What exactly are you referring to here? What's speculative?

Are you saying that a good player participating and winning a lot of events consistently is a bad thing? Since when is tons of activity in money tournaments looked down upon?

I meant that a lot of people are overhyping him based on his online results. A lot of good players are often beaten by cheap cheese during the bo1 phases, he is very strong against it obviously but since the holidays started and more good players are registering for the weekly cups, he is less and less in the final phases - though it could perfectly be a coïncidence.

He is a good player certainly, but I won't (and I think no one should) say he is the best zerg EU based on his online performance. I'm still waiting for a good offline performance

Yeah, that's totally fair. I think he's quite amazing personally, and he has won some pretty huge online events against giant players, as well as a zillion smaller ones, but naturally it's hard to say he's 'best of the best' until he plays in more 'huge' sized LAN events.

Haha, it's actually not sarcastic. Whether you think he's actually really good or not aside, there is no doubt that Nerchio has earned his mentions here though, as his actual results have surpassed most others in each of these releases.

Sup,
the Ragequit Open #5 is actually not from July, but from June (!)
(I believe #6 was canceled, #7 was rigged, #8 was canceled again, or something like that along the lines. #9 is set to take place today.)

Nearly 8000 Dollars in two weeks playing only rather small online cups. That is sick! Congrats to Stephano, THE up and coming Zerg in Europe together with Nerchio.

I first heard about him in discussion surrounding the Homestory III tournament. He may have participated there, but if not he sure seemed to be talked about a lot.

I'm actually quite surprised that you, and a few others in here, haven't heard of him! I'm glad some people are discovering him through this. =)

He's been around for quite some time, and has done quite well in online cups as well as some gigantic regional lans. He's yet to have any huge success in massive international lans though, but I believe he's particpated in a few big Euro events.

Take a look at his TLPD page, he's 42-8 in his last 50 games!

Also, check out his Liquipedia for more info on him. =)

To be honest, the TLPD isn't really up-to-date.

EDIT : Well with the last events, it is. Now Stephano is even the first player on the TLPD O.O

You will see him at the Assembly, his manager said that he apparently wants to dedicate more time into playing SC2 - he was graduating High School this year I believe - so except more of him.
